Start with Metro Exodus for a story-led survival-shooter with a similar bleak atmosphere; choose Chernobylite if the Chernobyl-area setting is what draws you in. For online extraction and player-versus-player pressure, consider Escape from Tarkov—but it is not a single-player open-world substitute. The right pick depends on which part of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 you want more of.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is framed by developer GSC Game World as a survival action experience in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. Steam lists it as a single-player game. Those details point to several different reasons players look for something similar: hazardous exploration, survival tension, a bleak exclusion-zone mood, or a particular kind of shooter. No single recommendation matches all of them.

| Metro Exodus | Atmospheric, story-led survival-shooter | More directed and linear than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 |
| Chernobylite | Chernobyl-area setting and survival premise | A setting connection, not evidence of identical mechanics |
| Escape from Tarkov | Looting and weapon-focused survival tension | Online PvP/PvE extraction rather than a single-player open world |
| Earlier S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games | More of the same fictional universe | Check current storefront listings for availability and editions |
Metro Exodus: for atmosphere and a story-led journey
Metro Exodus is the clearest suggestion if what you want is a grim survival-shooter mood and a directed narrative journey. Players often recommend the Metro games to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans, while also describing them as more linear. Exodus has broader spaces, but that does not make its progression equivalent to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s free-roaming structure.
Pick it for the atmospheric survival experience, not because you expect the same kind of open-world freedom. Check the current storefront for the platforms and edition options available in your region.

Chernobylite: for another Chernobyl-area premise
Chernobylite is worth considering if the Chernobyl setting itself is the main draw. It offers a different game built around a related place and survival premise, but the available evidence does not establish that its systems or overall structure match S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Treat it as setting-adjacent rather than a mechanical substitute, and check its current product page for platform and edition details.
Escape from Tarkov: for online extraction tension
Some players recommend Escape from Tarkov for its looting and weapon-focused survival tension. Its appeal is specifically for people who want online extraction play: it is a PvP/PvE experience, not a single-player open-world replacement for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. Choose it only if that multiplayer pressure is part of what you are seeking.

Earlier S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games: for the same universe
If you have not played the earlier entries, returning to the franchise is the most direct way to spend more time in its fictional universe. Steam’s discovery page for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl surfaces products using tags customers applied to them; it is storefront metadata, not an editorially vetted ranking of the games most like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.
