Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the strongest follow-up for character relationships and dialogue choices; Baldur’s Gate 3 is a standout fantasy alternative if you’re open to turn-based combat. No single game recreates all of Veilguard’s mix of action, companions, and setting.
What should you play after Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
The Veilguard is a single-player RPG built around story, fantasy worldbuilding, companions, choices, and customizable combat. EA’s October 31, 2024 launch announcement describes three classes and taking two companions on quests. Those ingredients point to several different kinds of follow-up, rather than one exact substitute. EA’s announcement

For BioWare companions and choices: Mass Effect Legendary Edition
If the people traveling with Rook, their conversations, and the choices you make together were the best part of Veilguard, start with Mass Effect Legendary Edition. It carries BioWare’s companion-led RPG approach into science fiction, with a trilogy-spanning story rather than a fantasy adventure in Thedas. The setting is the biggest shift, and the original trilogy’s design reflects its earlier release era.
BioWare describes the collection as containing the single-player base content and more than 40 DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD. That makes it a substantial option if you want a long-form BioWare story; the collection’s exact retail format and availability depend on where you shop. BioWare’s game catalogue

For fantasy companions and role-play: Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the clearest choice if you want a fantasy setting, a memorable party, relationships, and decisions that shape your adventure. GamesRadar’s Dragon Age recommendations highlight its companions, romance, role-play, and meaningful choices. It is a different kind of RPG, though: combat is turn-based, not the action combat of Veilguard. Choose it for the party and freedom to shape your character, not because you expect fights to feel the same.
GamesRadar lists the game for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. PlayStation Portugal also includes it on its Veilguard similar-games page; that is a regional discovery list, not a universal platform or availability guarantee. For tactical fantasy party combat: Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition suits players who want a fantasy party and are happy to plan turns rather than fight in real time. GameSpot describes it as a party RPG with turn-based combat, companions, quests, and decisions that affect the ending. Its tactical battles and different world and tone make it a better fit for players who enjoy thinking through party encounters than for those seeking Veilguard’s combat rhythm. For fantasy exploration beyond a party-focused story
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Pick The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt if you want a richly developed fantasy world, quests, exploration, and romance. Its appeal is a focused story around Geralt, not building a customizable hero and managing a full squad of companions. GamesRadar points to its storytelling, questlines, romance, and exploration as reasons it may suit Dragon Age fans. GamesRadar’s Dragon Age guide
Rank #3
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
Skyrim Special Edition is a better pick if open-ended exploration matters more than cinematic companion conversations. It offers a broad fantasy adventure, but it is less focused on companion-led storytelling than Veilguard. PlayStation Portugal lists it among games similar to Veilguard, while GamesRadar highlights its fantasy adventure and dragon encounters. PlayStation Portugal’s Veilguard page
For more of Dragon Age and Thedas: Dragon Age: Inquisition
If you want more of the setting, lore, and series history, continue with Dragon Age: Inquisition. BioWare describes it as an open-world, story-driven action RPG with complex characters, challenging combat, and decisions that shape the experience. It is the direct same-franchise option, though its pacing and structure belong to an earlier entry; returning players who have already finished it may prefer one of the other recommendations. Other good fits, depending on what you value
Persona 5 Royal: party bonds in a modern setting
Persona 5 Royal offers a party, character bonds, romance, and a strong story, but moves away from medieval fantasy into modern Tokyo and uses turn-based combat. It is a looser match for Veilguard, best for someone who values relationships and a distinctive cast more than setting or combat style. GamesRadar’s Dragon Age guide

Cyberpunk 2077: role-play and relationships in a city RPG
Cyberpunk 2077 may appeal if freedom in approaching quests, role-play, and relationships matter more than fantasy or a traditional companion party. Its science-fiction city setting and lack of a conventional squad distinguish it from Veilguard. GamesRadar’s Dragon Age guide
