Best graphics, resolution, and controller settings for Provincial Player

By VGSources Team 10 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Provincial Player, start with a graphics card in the official NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti class, use your display’s native widescreen resolution, and choose conservative quality settings until you have verified that text, cursor targets, and billiards visuals are clear. The official recommended graphics class is the GeForce GTX 1060, but neither requirement is a frame-rate benchmark or a guarantee of a particular preset.

Keyboard and mouse are the safest input choice for the game’s point-and-click scenes. A complete keyboard, mouse, or controller map is not published, and native full controller support is not confirmed. If you prefer a gamepad, inspect the active Steam Input layout, create a keyboard-and-mouse style layout when necessary, and test aiming, shot power, interaction, dialogue, and text advancement in a low-risk match before wagering significant in-game money.

Official PC requirements and what they actually tell you

The official Steam listing identifies Provincial Player as a Windows adventure/simulation restoration with billiards, point-and-click exploration, and widescreen support. Its listed hardware requirements are useful for choosing a starting point, but they do not establish a universal graphics preset or a guaranteed frame rate.

Component Minimum listed requirement Recommended listed requirement
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 10 or Windows 11
Graphics processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060

The GTX 1050 Ti is the official graphics floor, while the GTX 1060 is the official recommended class. The listing does not say which quality preset, resolution, refresh rate, or frame rate those cards deliver. Treat them as comparison points rather than benchmark results: a card that is nominally in one of those classes can behave differently depending on the rest of the PC, drivers, display, and in-game options.

The game’s progression makes input reliability especially important. You begin with $50 and are trying to earn $500 before the grand final at the Golden Goat club. A missed interaction, an unconfirmed shot, or an accidental input during a wager can matter more than a small visual-quality gain, so prioritize readable interfaces and predictable controls over aggressive settings.

Choose a resolution that keeps every scene readable

Start at the monitor’s native resolution

Select the native resolution of the display connected to the PC. Native output normally gives menus, dialogue, cursor targets, and billiards edges the clearest one-to-one presentation. The official listing confirms widescreen support, but it does not publish the exact resolutions available in the live game. Do not assume that a particular 16:9, ultrawide, or laptop resolution will appear as an option until you check the game’s own display menu.

Use the widest supported aspect ratio without stretching

After selecting native resolution, choose the widest aspect ratio the game presents correctly on your screen. Widescreen support means the game is designed to accommodate wider displays, but it does not establish that every ultrawide mode is available or that every display will be filled without scaling. If a mode stretches characters or makes the aiming view look distorted, return to the clearest supported option rather than forcing the panel’s maximum width.

Judge settings in live gameplay, not only in menus

Point-and-click scenes and billiards can expose problems that a static settings screen does not. Check small dialogue text, the visible pointer, clickable hotspots, ball edges, cue alignment, and the confirmation state for a shot. A resolution that looks acceptable in a menu can still make a cursor target difficult to identify in an exploration scene.

A practical graphics-tuning procedure

Because no authoritative source publishes a universal best preset or exact resolution table, use this repeatable process instead of copying a preset from another game.

  1. Confirm the GPU tier. Verify that the system has at least a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti-class processor. Use the GTX 1060 class as the official recommended comparison point, not as a promise of a particular frame rate.
  2. Open the game’s display or graphics options. Record the options and labels shown by your installed build. The published information does not establish a fixed list of quality names, so rely on what your version actually exposes.
  3. Set native widescreen resolution first. Apply the display’s native mode, then confirm that text and the pointer remain sharp in an exploration scene.
  4. Begin with conservative quality values. Keep image-quality options at restrained settings while you establish a stable baseline. The purpose is to protect readability and consistency, not to target an undocumented frame-rate number.
  5. Test all three major scene types. Walk through a point-and-click area, open dialogue and advance text, then play a low-risk billiards match. Look for cursor hesitation, unreadable text, flicker, or visual instability.
  6. Raise one quality option at a time. Apply a single change, revisit the same scenes, and keep the change only if the interface and billiards view remain clear and stable. Changing several options together makes it difficult to identify which setting caused a problem.
  7. Keep the last known-good configuration. If a later change introduces blur, instability, or difficult-to-see targets, revert that individual option instead of abandoning native resolution altogether.

How to match your graphics card to the game

System position What the documented tier means How to configure it
At the official minimum GeForce GTX 1050 Ti class Use native widescreen resolution first, keep quality conservative, and verify every scene type before increasing options.
At the official recommendation GeForce GTX 1060 class Start with native resolution and restrained quality, then increase options individually after confirming stable text, pointer behavior, and billiards visuals.
Below the listed minimum The official listing does not establish support. There is no documented preset or performance expectation to rely on; any result is configuration-dependent and should be treated as uncertain.

The two NVIDIA figures are requirements, not laboratory measurements. They do not prove that the game will hold a particular number of frames per second, nor do they tell you which anti-aliasing, shadow, texture, or post-processing choices are safe. If a system meets the recommended class but a scene still feels unstable, reduce the most demanding visible options in your installed build and re-test the same scene. Conversely, if a minimum-tier system is stable at native resolution, do not raise settings solely because a higher preset exists.

Keyboard and mouse: the predictable default

A complete authoritative keyboard and mouse binding map is not published in the Steam description or the available metadata. That means a generic billiards control list should not be treated as fact. Open the game’s Settings or Options screen and read the bindings shown by your build.

Record these actions before you bet

  • Aiming and camera movement.
  • Shot power or the equivalent strength control.
  • The command that takes, confirms, or cancels a shot.
  • Object interaction in point-and-click exploration.
  • Dialogue selection and text advancement.

Test each action immediately after recording it. A displayed key can still feel wrong if the pointer is over a different target, if a confirmation prompt requires a second input, or if a layout change has modified the command sent by a physical button. Keep the mouse and keyboard connected while learning the game; they provide the most predictable pointer control for exploration and text selection.

Using a controller when native support is unclear

Native full controller support and a title-specific recommended layout are not confirmed by the published information. A gamepad may still be usable through Steam Input, but that is a practical remapping method, not evidence that the game has an integrated controller scheme.

Set up a gamepad through Steam Input

  1. Launch Steam and open the controller configuration for Provincial Player.
  2. Inspect the layout that is active for the game rather than assuming the default mapping is correct.
  3. If the layout lacks a pointer or expected keyboard commands, create or select a keyboard-and-mouse style Steam Input layout.
  4. Map controls for aiming, camera movement, shot power, taking or confirming a shot, object interaction, dialogue selection, and text advancement.
  5. Start the game and test the layout in an actual exploration scene and a low-risk billiards match.
  6. Verify that every physical button still sends the command you intended after saving the layout.

Steam Input can change what a physical button sends. Re-test after every remapping change, especially the button used to confirm a shot and the buttons used to advance or select dialogue. If the controller feels imprecise in point-and-click scenes, switch back to the mouse for those sections instead of trying to compensate with increasingly complex mappings.

Point-and-click scenes need different priorities from billiards

The game combines two input situations: pointer-driven exploration and a billiards interface. A controller layout that feels comfortable for camera movement may still be poor at selecting small hotspots or advancing text. Evaluate the two modes separately.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For exploration and dialogue

  • Use a physical mouse when possible.
  • Confirm that the pointer is visible against the scene and that targets can be selected without repeated attempts.
  • Advance several dialogue lines and test every available selection command.
  • Check text at the chosen resolution before raising image-quality settings.

For billiards

  • Identify the exact aiming input shown in the in-game controls.
  • Find the shot-power adjustment and the command that commits the shot.
  • Practice in a low-risk match before relying on the layout during a wager.
  • Watch for accidental confirmation when moving between aiming and power controls.

Steam Deck guidance: what is confirmed and what is not

The official listing specifies Windows 10 as the minimum operating system and Windows 10/11 as recommended. It does not establish native Steam Deck support, a verified compatibility status, a Linux runtime, a fixed Deck graphics preset, or a Deck-specific controller map. Therefore, a Steam Deck setup should be treated as an experiment rather than a documented configuration.

A cautious Deck procedure

  1. Install the game through Steam and determine whether your Deck can launch it successfully; the Windows requirements do not guarantee that it will.
  2. Open the game’s controller configuration and inspect the active Steam Input layout.
  3. If the default layout provides no usable pointer or omits expected keyboard commands, create a keyboard-and-mouse style layout.
  4. Map the actions listed in the in-game controls: aiming, camera movement, shot power, taking or confirming a shot, interaction, dialogue selection, and text advancement.
  5. Test menus, an exploration scene, dialogue, and a low-risk billiards match before attempting a high-stakes wager.
  6. Connect a physical mouse and keyboard if pointer control or text selection remains unreliable.

Because exact in-game resolution choices are not published, select the clearest mode offered by your installation and judge it by text, cursor targets, and billiards visibility. Do not infer Deck performance from the GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1060 figures; those are Windows PC graphics classes, not Deck benchmarks.

Pre-wager stability checklist

Run this checklist whenever you install the game, change graphics options, or modify Steam Input.

  • The system meets at least the listed Windows, memory, DirectX, storage, and GTX 1050 Ti-class minimums.
  • The display is using a clear native widescreen mode supported by the game.
  • Text is readable without leaning toward the screen or relying on scaling that blurs the interface.
  • The pointer reaches exploration targets reliably.
  • Aiming and camera movement behave as expected.
  • Shot power changes predictably.
  • The shot-confirmation command is known and does not trigger accidentally.
  • Dialogue selection and text advancement both work.
  • A low-risk billiards match remains stable after the final graphics or controller change.
  • A mouse and keyboard are available if a gamepad layout loses pointer precision.

Troubleshooting common setup problems

Text or cursor targets are hard to read

Return to the display’s native resolution and confirm that you are using a supported widescreen mode. Keep quality settings conservative and inspect the result in a live exploration scene, not only in the options menu. If readability returns, increase quality one option at a time and stop at the first change that reduces clarity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The gamepad moves the wrong action or has no pointer

Inspect the active Steam Input layout. Replace the default with a keyboard-and-mouse style layout when the game expects keyboard commands or pointer input. Then test every mapped action in an actual scene, because the physical button may now send a different command than its label suggests.

Aiming works, but taking the shot does not

Open the in-game controls and identify the separate command for taking or confirming a shot. Map that command explicitly, then test it in a low-risk match. Do not assume that the same button used to adjust power also commits the shot.

Dialogue can be opened but not advanced

Verify both dialogue selection and text advancement as separate bindings. If a controller layout omits one of them, add the missing keyboard command through Steam Input or use the physical keyboard for dialogue.

Performance changes after increasing quality

Restore the last known-good conservative setting and repeat the same scene test. The published requirements do not provide a frame-rate target, so judge success by stable menus, readable text, responsive pointer behavior, and consistent billiards visuals rather than by an assumed number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Recommended setups by player type

Player Recommended starting setup Reason
Mouse-and-keyboard PC player GTX 1050 Ti class or better, native widescreen resolution, conservative quality Matches the official minimum class while preserving predictable pointer input.
Higher-headroom PC player GTX 1060 class, native widescreen resolution, then gradual quality increases Uses the official recommended graphics class without treating it as a benchmark guarantee.
Gamepad player Either listed GPU tier, Steam Input keyboard-and-mouse style layout if needed, mouse available Controller support is not confirmed, so remapping and a fallback pointer are prudent.
Steam Deck player Attempt launch through Steam, inspect Steam Input, test every scene and keep external mouse and keyboard available Deck compatibility, performance, and a native layout are not established by the Windows listing.

Bottom line

Build your setup around clarity and control: meet the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti minimum class, regard the GTX 1060 as the recommended class rather than a performance promise, use native widescreen resolution, and increase quality only after live testing. Mouse and keyboard remain the least ambiguous choice for point-and-click play. A controller can be workable through Steam Input, but you must inspect, map, and test the layout yourself before risking the money needed to progress from $50 toward the $500 goal and the Golden Goat final.
