Best graphics settings for smoother Soulstonia demo performance on PC

By VGSources Team 9 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most reliable way to make the Soulstonia demo smoother is to test one setting at a time, keep resolution fixed, reduce the most expensive effects first, and cap frame rate at a level your PC can sustain. There is no verified universal Soulstonia preset yet: the developer has not published game-specific benchmarks, exact performance targets, or confirmed support for DLSS, FSR, XeSS, or another upscaler.

Start by checking your hardware against the Windows requirements on the official Steam listing. Then measure the same scene repeatedly, prioritize shadows and other heavy effects if those controls exist in your build, and judge success by frame-time consistency and 1% lows rather than by a brief peak-FPS number.

Check whether your PC is inside Soulstonia’s published targets

Soulstonia is listed as a Windows PC game. The current Steam page from Valve and Gabriel’s Games lists a low minimum specification and a considerably higher recommended target. Meeting the minimum means the demo may launch and run, but it does not promise a particular frame rate, visual preset, or stutter-free experience.

Requirement Minimum Windows specification Recommended Windows specification
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 11
Processor Intel i3 Dual-Core Intel i5 Quad-Core
Memory 8 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics Integrated graphics NVIDIA 1060 or equivalent
Graphics API DirectX 11 DirectX 11
Storage 500 MB available 500 MB available

These figures come from the Windows requirements shown on the Soulstonia Steam listing. They are not an FPS guarantee. A system below the recommended graphics or memory target should be expected to need lower visual settings and a conservative frame-rate cap before high settings can be considered.

  • The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.

What the demo executable tells you

SteamDB identifies a Windows 64-bit Soulstonia Demo executable and Steam controller templates in its demo configuration record. The 64-bit listing confirms the PC context, while controller templates affect input setup rather than rendering performance. The indexed Steam page currently labels the game “Coming soon,” so settings and performance can change as development continues.

Build a baseline before changing anything

Randomly lowering every option makes it hard to know what helped. First create a repeatable baseline in one demanding location. Use the same resolution, display mode, preset and route for every comparison.

  1. Choose a repeatable scene. Use a location with the most characters, lighting, particles or open visibility that you can revisit reliably. A quiet menu or empty room will hide the bottleneck you experience during play.
  2. Record the starting configuration. Note resolution, display mode, preset, every exposed quality option, average FPS, 1% lows if your overlay provides them, GPU and CPU utilization, and VRAM and system-RAM use.
  3. Run the same route. Replay the route for long enough to encounter traversal, combat or camera movement that normally causes hitching. Keep the route, camera direction and test duration consistent.
  4. Change one control. Apply a single setting change, restart the same route, and record the result. If several options change together, you cannot tell which one improved frame time or image quality.
  5. Keep a change only when it helps. Prefer steadier frame times and better 1% lows over a short-lived average-FPS increase that still feels uneven.

If you do not have an overlay, use the most consistent visual test available and compare the same route after each change. The exact numbers matter less than making each run comparable.

Lower expensive effects before reducing texture quality

The exact option names exposed by the Soulstonia demo have not been publicly verified. Use the following order only when the corresponding controls appear in your build. Test the most expensive visible effects first and leave resolution fixed while you isolate them.

Shadows

Shadows can require substantial GPU work, especially when their distance, resolution or filtering affects many objects. If the menu offers shadow quality, distance or cascades, step down one level and replay your baseline route. Watch for improved 1% lows and fewer sudden frame-time spikes. The trade-off is softer, shorter or less detailed shadows.

Volumetrics and fog

Volumetric lighting, fog and light shafts can be costly in scenes with dense atmosphere or many light sources. Lower their quality or disable an optional volumetric effect if available. Check dark interiors and outdoor areas separately, because the benefit may appear only in scenes where the effect is present.

  • 1000Hz Polling Rate (for 2.4G and wired connection)
  • Hall Effect joysticks and Hall triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings.
  • Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Custom button mapping without using software. Turbo function.

Reflections

Screen-space or real-time reflections may consume GPU time when water, polished floors or reflective surfaces occupy much of the view. Reduce reflection quality or distance one step, then repeat the same camera path. Expect less accurate or less distant reflections, not necessarily a change in texture sharpness.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ambient occlusion

Ambient-occlusion settings add contact shading around objects. Lowering or disabling them can improve frame time in scenes with many objects, at the cost of flatter-looking corners and object intersections. Compare the result in a busy scene rather than judging only from a simple wall.

Post-processing

Post-processing may include several effects under one heading. If the demo exposes a quality level, lower it after testing shadows, volumetrics, reflections and ambient occlusion. If individual controls are available, change one at a time so you can preserve effects that have little performance cost on your system.

Textures

Textures usually affect VRAM capacity and streaming more than raw shader workload. Do not lower texture quality first when your GPU has adequate VRAM and the problem is a low GPU frame rate. Reduce textures when monitoring shows VRAM pressure, visible texture-streaming stalls or hitching during movement. The image-quality loss is persistent across the whole scene, so use this as a targeted fix rather than a reflexive first step.

Resolution, display mode and image clarity

Keep resolution fixed while testing individual effects; otherwise you cannot attribute an improvement correctly. Once you have tested the expensive effects, resolution is the broadest performance lever because it changes how many pixels the GPU must process.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When to lower resolution

Lower resolution only after effect-level changes fail to deliver a stable target, or when monitoring shows the GPU is continuously saturated while the CPU has spare capacity. Make a small step rather than dropping immediately to the lowest value. Re-run the same route and check whether frame-time consistency improves enough to justify the softer image.

  • Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.

Display mode

Test the display modes offered by the demo separately. Keep the mode that produces the most consistent frame pacing on your system; do not assume that one mode is universally faster. Record the result along with resolution so later tests remain comparable.

Motion blur and cinematic effects

Disable motion blur when it reduces clarity or makes camera movement feel smeared. This is primarily a visibility and comfort choice, although removing an effect can also reduce a small amount of post-processing work. Keep cinematic effects you prefer only when frame pacing remains stable. A clear, steady image is generally more useful than a higher average FPS obscured by blur.

Use a sustainable frame-rate cap

Chasing the highest instantaneous FPS can make a game feel worse when the rate repeatedly falls and rises. After optimizing the heavy settings, cap the demo at a frame rate your measured runs can hold consistently. Choose the target from your own results and monitor refresh rate; a target below refresh can improve perceived consistency when an uncapped rate fluctuates.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • If your test route stays comfortably above a chosen target, cap at that target and check whether frame-time spikes become less noticeable.
  • If the rate frequently falls below the cap, lower another expensive setting or choose a lower cap instead of leaving the game uncapped.
  • Judge the cap by 1% lows and frame-time graphs when available, not by the menu’s peak number.
  • Re-test after changing scenes. A cap that is stable indoors may be too ambitious outdoors or during heavy effects.

No single cap is correct for every monitor or PC. The useful target is the highest level your slowest repeatable scene can sustain without objectionable spikes.

Tell a GPU limit from a CPU limit

Monitoring helps you choose the right compromise. A GPU-limited scene generally shows the graphics processor near full utilization while one or more effects or resolution changes alter frame time. In that case, lower shadows, volumetrics, reflections, ambient occlusion, post-processing or resolution in that order, testing each change.

A CPU-limited scene may show lower overall GPU utilization while the processor is busy with simulation, draw calls or scene traversal. Lowering resolution may then produce little improvement. A stable frame-rate cap, reduced scene complexity where the game exposes such controls, and closing unnecessary background workloads are more appropriate experiments. Because the demo’s own CPU and frame-time benchmarks have not been published, use your monitoring results rather than assuming a universal bottleneck.

Practical setting profiles to test

These are testing profiles, not developer-certified presets. Apply them only to controls the demo actually provides.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Clarity-first profile

  • Keep native resolution and the clearest display mode from your baseline.
  • Disable motion blur if it harms readability.
  • Lower shadows, volumetrics, reflections, ambient occlusion and post-processing one step at a time.
  • Keep textures high enough to avoid visible streaming problems when VRAM use is comfortable.
  • Cap at a sustainable target based on the slowest scene.

This profile suits a PC that can meet most of the recommended target but experiences uneven frame pacing from a few expensive effects.

Balanced profile

  • Use the same resolution initially, then make one modest resolution reduction only if effect changes are insufficient.
  • Set heavy effects to medium or the next lower available level rather than disabling every visual feature.
  • Keep textures at a level that fits available VRAM.
  • Turn off motion blur when it reduces clarity.
  • Use a conservative cap that the baseline route holds reliably.

This is a sensible starting point for systems between the published minimum and recommended specifications, but the result must be validated on the reader’s own hardware.

Performance-first profile

  • Use the lowest practical values for shadows, volumetrics, reflections, ambient occlusion and post-processing.
  • Reduce resolution only after those effects are tested, or sooner when the GPU remains saturated.
  • Lower textures when VRAM pressure or streaming hitching is evident.
  • Disable motion blur and other optional cinematic effects that reduce clarity.
  • Set a frame-rate cap below the unstable peak and prioritize consistent frame times.

This profile is intended for hardware close to the minimum listing. It cannot turn the minimum specification into a guaranteed high-FPS experience.

What to do when stutter remains

Stutter appears during movement

Repeat the route and watch memory use. If VRAM or system RAM approaches capacity, lower textures and close unnecessary applications before retesting. If utilization does not indicate memory pressure, test a lower frame-rate cap and then the heavy effects individually. Do not change every option at once.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Average FPS is acceptable but motion feels uneven

Check 1% lows and frame-time consistency. A stable cap below the fluctuating peak often feels smoother than an uncapped average. If the problem is limited to one demanding scene, tune for that scene rather than the quietest area.

Lowering resolution barely helps

This points away from a purely GPU-pixel bottleneck. Restore the original resolution if image quality matters, then investigate CPU utilization, background workloads and a lower cap. The demo’s published requirements do not specify a guaranteed frame rate, so a CPU-limited result is possible even when the graphics card appears underused.

The image looks blurry after optimization

Restore texture quality and resolution first if they were reduced unnecessarily. Disable motion blur rather than lowering resolution when the problem is camera clarity. Keep the heavy-effect reductions that improved frame pacing and undo only the changes that damaged readability more than they helped performance.

You cannot find an upscaler

Do not assume a missing DLSS, FSR or XeSS menu is hidden. Support for those technologies has not been confirmed for the Soulstonia demo. Use the controls that are actually exposed—effects, resolution, display mode and frame-rate cap—and avoid installing unofficial replacements that could introduce new variables.

Hardware expectations and upgrade priorities

The official recommended target is 16 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA 1060 or equivalent GPU, paired with an Intel i5 Quad-Core-class processor on Windows 11. Treat that as the sensible hardware goal for more stable higher settings, not as a promise of a particular FPS. The minimum target—8 GB RAM, an Intel i3 Dual-Core, integrated graphics and Windows 10—describes a substantially lower performance tier.

If your system is below the recommended memory or graphics level, prioritize reaching those targets before expecting high settings to hold a stable frame rate. A memory upgrade can reduce pressure from background applications, while a stronger GPU provides more headroom for resolution and expensive effects; the useful choice depends on which component your baseline monitoring identifies as limiting.

What is confirmed and what is still unknown

  • Confirmed: the demo is a Windows PC title with a 64-bit executable, DirectX 11 requirements, and the minimum and recommended specifications listed above.
  • Confirmed: SteamDB records Steam controller templates for the demo, which concerns input configuration rather than graphics performance.
  • Not established: exact in-game option names and which of the commonly used effects are present in your build.
  • Not established: support for DLSS, FSR, XeSS or another upscaler.
  • Not established: Soulstonia-specific average-FPS, 1% low, frame-time or stutter benchmarks, or a developer-tested best preset.

Because those details are unresolved, a controlled one-setting-at-a-time workflow is more dependable than a claimed universal preset. Re-run the process after demo updates, since options and performance can change while the game remains in development.
