There is no one best game for every child. Start with the system your family owns, then match a game’s rating, content, play style and online features to your child and household rules. For Switch families, Nintendo’s current kids and family catalogs include Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV and Minecraft as candidates to investigate—not as independently tested or universally suitable picks.
Quick picks to investigate
The available official listings support these as starting points, but do not establish which is best for a particular child. Check the live product page for the exact edition, platform, rating, player setup, online features and availability before deciding.
For a family-game candidate on Switch 2
Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV appears in Nintendo’s US games-for-kids catalog. It is a candidate for households with a Switch 2; the catalog entry alone does not confirm the setup or suitability you need. See Nintendo’s games for kids catalog.
For a game to investigate across Nintendo’s family catalog
Minecraft appears in Nintendo’s kids and family store listings. Those listings do not specify which mode, edition or online arrangement is right for an individual child. Check the current product page and settings before choosing. See Nintendo’s family games catalog.

How to choose a game for your child
1. Start with the console and exact edition
Check the system you own and the platform named on the listing. A Switch 2 edition is not automatically interchangeable with every listing for Switch. Nintendo’s Game Finder is a useful Switch-family starting point, but its selected games are ESRB Everyone or Everyone 10+ and playable on Switch 2, Switch and Switch Lite. It is not a cross-platform ranking or a complete guide to every child’s needs.
2. Read the rating and descriptors together
ESRB ratings provide information about game or app content. Nintendo advises parents to use the rating symbol alongside the content descriptors when deciding what fits a child. As Nintendo Support puts it: “Use both the rating symbol and the content descriptors to select the most appropriate game for your child.” A rating helps inform a family decision; it cannot guarantee that a game is right for every child. 3. Check online communication and spending
For games with online or user-created content, find out whether the child can communicate with other players and what purchase options are available. ESRB notes that parental controls can help manage access by rating, play time, spending and online communication. Review the controls on the platform and in the game, where available. ESRB: Parental Controls.
4. Match the play style to your household
Before buying, consider whether your child wants to play alone or with others locally, whether online play matters, and whether the game requires a purchase or subscription beyond the initial copy. The Nintendo catalog pages cited here do not establish all of those details for each title, so check the current listing and platform settings rather than assuming.

Some families are looking for alternatives to Roblox, but a different game is not automatically a simpler or safer fit. Roblox announced on June 16, 2026 that its age-based Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts became globally available, with access to games and features aligned with age and published experiences receiving content maturity ratings. That is a dated company statement about a changing service, not a permanent guarantee about every experience or setting.
