For a base that produces both coal and ore, the strongest all-around spot reported by guides is the elevated area south of the Frostbound Mountains and near Verdant Brook, around (189, -39) to (190, -41). For coal-focused bases, look at the clusters around Twilight Dunes and (-159, -91). Published node counts are guide estimates, not an official map census.
Best coal locations at a glance
| Area | Coordinates | Guide-reported coal deposits | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| South of Frostbound Mountains / near Verdant Brook | (189, -39) to (190, -41) | Roughly 8, with ore nearby (AllThings. How); PC Gamer also describes clustered coal and ore | A combined coal-and-ore base |
| Twilight Dunes | (-157, -92) | 5 (AllThings.How) | A desert coal cluster; nearby Alpha Anubis and temperature swings are considerations |
| Twilight Dunes | (-97, -120) | Around 6 (AllThings.How) | A reported secluded formation in the desert |
| Near Sealed Realm of the Winged Tyrant | (-159, -91) | 9 within one base circle (Palworldbreeding.gg) | A dedicated coal base, based on one guide’s count |
| Bamboo Groves Watchtower | (-233, -365) | 5 (Mobalytics) | A flat-area base candidate |
| Anubis Dunes | (-128, -81) | 4 (Mobalytics) | A smaller cluster just off a cliff north of Bamboo Groves Watchtower |
| Other reported sites | (291, -19); (-570, -652); (327, 485) | Around 6; around 6; around 9, respectively (AllThings.How) | Alternatives if the main clusters are inconvenient; the last site also has 3 ore deposits |
These counts come from published guides and can vary by source or by how a cluster is defined. The coordinates (-157, -92) and (-159, -91) are close together, so the Twilight Dunes and Winged Tyrant entries may refer to nearby parts of the same area rather than distinct farms.
Which location should you choose?
For coal and ore together: Verdant Brook
The elevated site around (189, -39) to (190, -41) is the best fit if you want one base to gather both resources. AllThings. How reports roughly eight coal deposits with ore nearby, and PC Gamer also identifies the area as a coal-and-ore cluster. The approach is elevated and difficult, but PC Gamer’s brief assessment does not establish that the location is reliably protected from raids.
For a dedicated coal base: the Twilight Dunes area
Twilight Dunes has several reported clusters. The count at (-159, -91) is the largest cited for one base circle—nine according to Palworldbreeding.gg—while AllThings. How lists five around (-157, -92) and around six at (-97, -120). Because the first two coordinates are close, check the in-game map and terrain before treating them as separate sites.

For alternatives
Mobalytics reports five nodes at Bamboo Groves Watchtower and four at Anubis Dunes. AllThings. How also lists clusters at (291, -19), (-570, -652), and (327, 485); its count for the last location is around nine coal deposits plus three ore deposits. These can be useful if a primary cluster is out of the way for your playthrough.
How to farm coal manually
- Travel to a reported cluster and look for the dark, sharp-edged coal rocks.
- Mine the nodes with a pickaxe; AllThings. How says any pickaxe can break them.
- Collect the dropped coal, and bring heat-resistant gear for daytime desert trips. If you will stay in the desert after dark, carry cold-resistant gear as well.
How to set up an automated coal base
- Choose a cluster and place a Palbox so the coal deposits fall within the base area.
- Assign Pals with Mining level 3 to work the coal rocks, as specified by Palworldbreeding.gg.
- Keep foundations and other structures off the deposits so the nodes have room to respawn.
Before committing to a site, check that the Palbox area covers the nodes without placing buildings over them. At Verdant Brook, the nearby ore makes the location useful for combined production; desert sites require planning around heat by day and cold at night.

Making coal easier to carry
Mobalytics recommends Turtacle Terra, stating that it reduces the weight of coal and sulfur by 80%. Treat this as that guide’s reported benefit rather than an independently verified measurement.

The listed totals are estimates published by AllThings. How, Mobalytics, Palworldbreeding.gg, and PC Gamer; they are not official developer counts. Differences may reflect nearby deposits being grouped differently or guides describing neighboring coordinates. Use the coordinates as starting points, then confirm the rocks and available base footprint in your own game.
