Find them in the wild, weaken them in a pet battle, and capture them. Other pets introduced around the expansion come from separate routes—including Delves, achievements, dungeons, professions, vendors, and special-edition rewards—so not every new pet is a Khaz Algar catch.
Where to find The War Within’s new wild pets
Blizzard’s August 26, 2024 launch notes confirm: “New wild pets to discover in the wilds of Khaz Algar.” The four launch zones are Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, and Azj-Kahet. Blizzard’s announcement establishes the zones and the addition of wild pets; it does not give a complete, current location list. Read Blizzard’s The War Within Content Update Notes.
For individual species and reported locations, use a zone-organized listing such as Wowhead’s The War Within wild-pet guide. Treat coordinates and spawn reports as route-finding aids rather than guaranteed spawn points: locations can be patch-sensitive, and the guide’s entries may not reflect every change in the current game.
How to catch Khaz Algar battle pets
Wild battle pets are collected through the in-game pet battle system. Engage the wild pet, lower its health, then use the capture option. The key is to weaken the target without defeating it.

Choose a pet that can safely lower health
Wowhead recommends bringing a pet with a “False Swipe” effect—an attack that leaves the opponent with at least 1 health. Its examples include Superbark and Weakening Blow. Pets listed with one of those abilities include Terrible Turnip, Snobold Runt, Corgi Pup, Grumpy, Lord Woofington, and Molten Corgi. This is guide advice, not a guarantee that every ability or pet is available to every character.
Bring backup pets
The guide also recommends taking two strong backup pets in case the battle becomes difficult. A prepared team gives you options if your chosen capture pet is defeated or the wild target does more damage than expected.

| Achievement | Lil’ Bonechewer | Tied to the Worm Theory achievement. |
| Delves | Bouncer, Chester, Sneef, Violet Sporbit, and Wriggle | Listed as rewards from Delve chests. |
| Dungeon | Bop | Listed as a drop from Goldie Baronbottom in Cinderbrew Meadery; the guide also notes a follower-dungeon route. |
| Profession | Writhing Transmutagen | Listed under Alchemy and discovered through Khaz Algar Thaumaturgy. |

These examples and routes are from Wowhead’s The War Within new-pets collection overview. It covers additional categories, including promotions and shop items, but those should not be treated as automatically available now. The guide also flags some pets found in launch game files as unsourced or potentially unobtainable; without a confirmed current source, they are not reliable collection targets.

How to get Squally’s siblings
Flash, Gale, and Thundo are not wild pets to search for in Khaz Algar. Blizzard’s route is tied to The War Within Epic Edition: eligible players summon Squally and begin the “Gryphons of a Feather” quest to find the siblings in the Dragon Isles. See Blizzard’s Epic Edition announcement for the edition-specific details.
