The right Switch 2 accessory depends on the job: choose a Switch 2-sized case for carrying the console, the separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip to charge controllers away from it, or a Switch 2 Pro Controller for a traditional gamepad. Charger and controller compatibility is item-specific, so check the exact model and intended connection before buying.

Which Switch 2 case should you choose?
Slim case for carrying the console
A compact case is the sensible category if you mainly want to protect and carry the console. Nintendo offers a Switch 2-specific carrying case and screen protector; its case instructions say to store the console with Joy-Con 2 attached.

All-in-one case for extra gear
If you want to pack the dock, cables, or a controller as well, look for an all-in-one case and check its listed compartments and dimensions. Third-party fit is model-specific: confirm the case is explicitly for Switch 2 and allows for any protective shell or grip you plan to leave attached. The available official information does not establish which third-party cases fit those configurations.
How do you charge Joy-Con 2?
Charge them while attached to the console
Joy-Con 2 charge when attached to Switch 2. For charging in handheld mode, Nintendo says the console must be connected to the AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode. Nintendo Support estimates approximately 3½ hours for a full charge; see its Joy-Con 2 charging instructions.

Charge them away from the console
The separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip (model BEE-010) charges Joy-Con 2 while they are attached to the grip. It is not included in any Switch 2 bundle, according to Nintendo Support. Do not mistake it for the ordinary grip bundled with the console: that grip does not charge the controllers.

The Switch 2 AC Adapter is the straightforward choice when you want to charge the console or power its dock for TV Mode. A second adapter can be useful if you want a charging setup in another location.

Original Switch AC Adapter
Nintendo says the original Switch AC adapter can charge Switch 2 when plugged directly into the console, but it cannot power TV Mode through the Switch 2 dock. Nintendo also says it can charge Joy-Con 2 and the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Check the model and country-specific plug details; do not treat it as a substitute for the dock’s TV Mode power supply. Third-party AC adapters
Nintendo’s US support page says an unlicensed AC adapter rated at least 54W can be used to charge Switch 2, but warns that unlicensed products are not tested by Nintendo and may have compatibility problems. That guidance is not a blanket endorsement of third-party chargers. Choose a clearly specified, region-correct product and verify the exact intended use.

Is the Switch 2 Pro Controller worth considering?
Consider the Switch 2 Pro Controller if you want a traditional pad rather than playing with attached Joy-Con 2. It charges with its included cable from a USB port on the Switch 2 dock or directly from the Switch 2 AC Adapter; the console does not have to be docked for the dock’s USB port to charge the controller. Nintendo lists these charging options in its Pro Controller charging instructions.
Nintendo Australia lists the controller’s battery capacity as 1070mAh, estimated battery life as approximately 40 hours, and charging time as approximately 3.5 hours. Can you use original Switch controllers with Switch 2?
Nintendo says original Joy-Con controllers can pair wirelessly with Switch 2, but cannot attach to the console. The original Switch Pro Controller is also listed as wirelessly compatible. Compatibility does not make older hardware equivalent to the dedicated Switch 2 Pro Controller, so check which features and functions matter before choosing. For third-party controllers and accessories, verify Switch 2 support for the exact model: Nintendo says, “Nintendo cannot guarantee functionality with all products.”
