Best Pals to Catch Early in Palworld (Version 1.0 Guide)

The best early Palworld catches depend on the problem slowing you down, not on a single universal tier list. Catch Cattiva when carrying and basic station coverage are the issue, Foxparks for early fire damage and Kindling, Vixy when Pal Spheres and arrows are scarce, and Lifmunk or Tanzee to cover several first-base jobs. Add Fuddler for mining, then choose one mount—Direhowl for speed, Rushoar for stone, or Eikthyrdeer for wood and vertical travel.

This guide treats each catch as a tool with a cost: a party slot, a base slot, a saddle or partner item, and the time needed to find it. Wild levels and abilities can change with patches, so the figures below reflect Palworld 1.0.5 data on Steam build 25247047 and the 2026 source updates cited in the guide.

How should you choose your first Pal?

Start with the bottleneck you can see right now. If a character is overloaded, choose Cattiva. If a furnace or cooking pot is idle, choose Foxparks. If you are running out of capture supplies, choose Vixy. If a crafting station is waiting for a worker, use a broad base Pal such as Lifmunk or Tanzee. This job-first approach follows the practical advice to “build around jobs, not rarity.”

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

PalMods describes its recommendations as picks ordered within each job rather than a universal tier list. That distinction matters: a Pal that is excellent at a base task may be a poor party member, while a fast mount may contribute little to your production line. Compare every candidate on five axes:

  • Immediate role: carrying, capture control, damage, production, mining, ranching or travel.
  • Availability: wild level range, night-only status, Alpha encounter and any gear requirement.
  • Utility depth: the number and level of Work Suitabilities, plus the Partner Skill.
  • Opportunity cost: party space, base space, capture risk and materials for partner gear or a saddle.
  • Upgrade path: whether the Pal stays useful or should later give way to a specialist such as Penking or Tombat.

Which Pal should I catch first in Palworld?

For most fresh starts, catch one Cattiva and one broad worker, then add Foxparks or Vixy according to the first constraint you encounter. Cattiva is the safest first catch because it helps both exploration and several basic stations without requiring a special encounter.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cattiva: the carrying and starter-coverage pick

Cattiva appears in the wild at levels 1–9. It has Handiwork 1, Gathering 1, Mining 1 and Transporting 1, so a single copy can fill a gap at an early station while you are still building your base.

Its Cat Helper Partner Skill adds 100 carrying capacity while Cattiva is in your party. The bonus does not stack, so one party Cattiva is enough for the carrying effect. Keep it with you when hauling stone, wood or other heavy materials is the immediate problem; move additional copies to the base only when a station actually needs their work coverage. Cattiva is a generalist, not a reason to fill every base slot with the same Pal.

Foxparks: fire damage and Kindling

Foxparks is found at levels 5–9 and has Kindling 1. Its Huggy Fire Partner Skill equips Foxparks as a flamethrower, giving an early party a source of fire damage against bosses or difficult enemies.

Use Foxparks in the party while combat is the bottleneck. When a furnace or cooking pot is waiting, return it to the base so its Kindling can clear the queue. That swap is more efficient than catching several copies before you have a clear production need.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Vixy: a ranch for capture supplies

Vixy is a level 1–9 catch with Gathering 1 and Ranch 1. Assigning it to a Ranch activates Dig Here!, which can produce Pal Spheres, arrows and gold. This makes Vixy unusually valuable when capture supplies, rather than combat power, are limiting your progress.

Choose Vixy when you are spending more time gathering materials for basic ammunition and spheres than exploring. Once those supplies are easy to craft, its opportunity cost rises: a ranch slot may be better used by a Pal that covers a production task you cannot otherwise staff.

Which early Pals are best for combat and controlled captures?

Daedream is the damage-control choice, Hoocrates is its Dark-focused support partner, and Chillet is the higher-investment Alpha option for players who want a rideable Ice/Dragon Pal. They solve different combat problems, so do not treat them as interchangeable.

Daedream: night-oriented Dark support

Daedream is a night-oriented Dark Pal. After its Necklace is unlocked, Dream Chaser makes Daedream appear beside the player and fire Dark bullets. Those bullets cannot reduce a target below 1 HP, which makes Daedream useful for controlled damage while you prepare a capture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The safety is limited. Follow-up attacks can still kill the target, so leave Daedream at the base for a capture-only run when the Pal you want is already near capture range. Its best use is controlled pressure, not unattended damage.

Hoocrates: a support slot for Dark-heavy parties

Hoocrates has Gathering 1 and the Dark Knowledge Partner Skill. Dark Knowledge increases Dark-Pal attack by 15% and does not stack. Keep one in the party when several of your active attackers are Dark type; otherwise, its main contribution is a modest base-gathering role and it may not justify the slot.

Chillet: the early Alpha route

AllThingsHow places the level 11 Chillet Alpha at Windswept Hills. PalMods describes Chillet as a rideable Ice/Dragon Pal with Cooling 2 and Gathering 1. Its Wriggling Weasel Partner Skill changes the player’s mounted attack type to Dragon and increases Attack by 5%.

Chillet is worth preparing for when the matchup, mounted combat or Cooling 2 matters. It is not the automatic first catch: an Alpha encounter demands more preparation than a low-level field Pal, and the value of its bonus depends on whether you will actually fight while mounted.

What are the best early base Pals?

The first base should cover the jobs that keep queues moving: Planting, Watering, Gathering, Handiwork, Mining, Lumbering and Transporting. One broad worker assigned to the station blocking progress is usually more useful than a second plantation or a collection of narrowly specialized Pals.

Lifmunk: the broad first worker

Lifmunk appears at levels 1–14 and has Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Gathering 1 and Lumbering 1, along with a combat Partner Skill. Assign it to whichever station is currently idle because no worker is available. Its breadth makes it a strong first-base choice while your infrastructure is still small.

Pengullet: water, cooling and emergency firepower

Pengullet spans levels 2–41 and covers Watering 1, Handiwork 1, Cooling 1 and Transporting 1. Its rocket Partner Skill provides an emergency burst, but the launch incapacitates Pengullet. Treat that skill as a panic button rather than a normal damage rotation, especially when you still need Pengullet to run a station.

Tanzee: flexible coverage without a narrow assignment

Tanzee appears at levels 4–12 and provides Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Gathering 1 and Lumbering 1. It overlaps with Lifmunk, which is useful when several queues are waiting at once. Use it as a second broad worker or move it between stations as your base layout changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fuddler: mining plus a player-efficiency bonus

Fuddler is found at levels 5–38 and has Handiwork 1, Mining 1 and Transporting 1. Mining Assistance increases the player’s mining efficiency by 30% and reduces Stone weight by 80%; the effect does not stack.

Fuddler is therefore valuable in two places: at a base where Mining 1 is missing and in the party during a stone run. Keep one when manually mining is the slow part of expansion, but do not collect duplicates for a bonus that cannot stack.

Pal Wild level Work Suitabilities Distinctive value Use it when…
Lifmunk 1–14 Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Gathering 1, Lumbering 1 Broad first worker plus combat Partner Skill A queue is blocked and you need general coverage
Pengullet 2–41 Watering 1, Handiwork 1, Cooling 1, Transporting 1 Rocket burst incapacitates Pengullet You need water, cooling or transport in one slot
Tanzee 4–12 Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Gathering 1, Lumbering 1 Flexible overlap with Lifmunk Several basic jobs compete for workers
Fuddler 5–38 Handiwork 1, Mining 1, Transporting 1 +30% mining efficiency and −80% Stone weight; neither stacks Stone gathering is the immediate bottleneck

Do I need a second plantation before upgrading mining?

No. A farm needs Planting, Watering and Gathering before a second plantation helps. If any one of those jobs is missing, add the worker that completes the chain first.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

When ore or stone becomes a permanent bottleneck, upgrade toward stronger mining coverage instead. PalworldGuide points to Penking or Tombat as later mining upgrades. That is an upgrade path, not a reason to ignore the broad workers that keep early crafting and farming running.

Which early mount should I catch?

Choose the mount by the terrain or resource you cross most often: Direhowl for an earlier fast ground ride, Rushoar for stone, Eikthyrdeer for wood and vertical movement, or Melpaca for ranch output. Every route trades party space and saddle preparation for a specific travel benefit.

Eikthyrdeer: wood and vertical traversal

Eikthyrdeer is a level 6–13 rideable Pal with Lumbering 2. While mounted, it can double-jump and provides a 220% lumbering-efficiency increase. Pick it when cliffs, ledges and wood production matter more than the simplest saddle path.

Direhowl: the early fast ground mount

Direhowl appears at levels 6–14, is rideable and is slightly faster than most mounts. It also has Gathering 1. This is the straightforward choice when you want to cover ground sooner and do not need a resource-specific mounted bonus.

Rushoar: stone runs on a budget

Rushoar is found at levels 5–13, is rideable and has Mining 1. Its mounted ability gives a 500% stone-destruction efficiency increase, making it the dedicated choice for cheap, repeated stone runs.

Melpaca: ranch value over speed

Melpaca appears at levels 5–17, is rideable and has Ranch 2. Its ranch skill can occasionally produce Wool. Choose it when ranch output is more valuable to your plan than maximum travel speed.

Mount Wild level Work or travel profile Best reason to choose it
Eikthyrdeer 6–13 Rideable; Lumbering 2; mounted double-jump; +220% lumbering efficiency Vertical exploration and wood production
Direhowl 6–14 Rideable; slightly faster than most mounts; Gathering 1 Earlier fast ground travel
Rushoar 5–13 Rideable; Mining 1; +500% stone-destruction efficiency while mounted Fast, inexpensive stone gathering
Melpaca 5–17 Rideable; Ranch 2; occasional Wool output Ranch production with a usable mount

How should I divide Pals between my party and base?

Use the party for effects that follow you and the base for jobs that run while you explore. Cattiva’s carrying bonus, Fuddler’s mining assistance and a Dark-heavy Hoocrates setup are party decisions. Kindling, Watering, Cooling, Planting and Transporting are usually base decisions unless you are actively using that Pal’s combat or travel value.

Partner Skills that do not stack should be treated as one-copy bonuses. A second Cattiva does not add another 100 carrying capacity, a second Hoocrates does not add another 15% Dark attack, and another Fuddler does not add another mining-efficiency or Stone-weight reduction effect. Additional copies can still be justified for separate base jobs, but not for multiplying those listed effects.

What should I catch in the first hour?

  1. Catch Cattiva. Put it in the party while hauling and let it cover Mining or Transporting when a base station is waiting.
  2. Catch Lifmunk or Tanzee. Assign the broad worker to the station blocking your first production queue.
  3. Check the farm chain. Ensure Planting, Watering and Gathering are all staffed before adding another plantation.
  4. Choose one bottleneck Pal. Add Foxparks for Kindling and fire damage, Vixy for ranch-generated capture supplies, or Fuddler for mining and stone hauling.
  5. Pick one mount route. Use Direhowl for speed, Rushoar for stone, Eikthyrdeer for wood and vertical travel, or Melpaca for ranch output.
  6. Upgrade deliberately. Replace generalists only when a specialist solves a persistent problem; Penking or Tombat become relevant when mining remains the long-term constraint.

What can go wrong with early Pal choices?

  • Overfilling the party with workers: A base Pal cannot perform its station job while it occupies a party slot. Move it back when the queue, rather than combat, is the priority.
  • Assuming every Partner Skill stacks: Cattiva, Hoocrates and Fuddler’s named effects do not stack. Keep one for the bonus and use other slots for different functions.
  • Letting Daedream finish a capture: Its bullets stop at 1 HP, but additional pressure can still defeat the target. Remove it for capture-only attempts.
  • Using Pengullet’s rocket as routine damage: The launch incapacitates Pengullet, so it can leave a needed Watering, Cooling or Transporting job unattended.
  • Chasing a mount without a travel problem: Saddles and partner gear consume materials. Catch the mount whose bonus removes a real traversal or resource bottleneck.
  • Treating level ranges as permanent: Wild levels, locations, Work Suitabilities and Partner Skills are patch-sensitive. Recheck the live game after updates.

How current are these early-Pal recommendations?

The figures here reflect PalToolkit’s Palworld 1.0.5 data for Steam build 25247047. PalMods was updated August 13, 2026; AllThingsHow on July 11, 2026; PalworldGuide on July 14, 2026; and PalToolkit on September 29, 2026. Those dates explain why a future patch may show different wild levels, locations or skill behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The most durable advice is the decision method: identify the job that is stalled, catch the least costly Pal that covers it, and replace a generalist only when a specialist produces a clear improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which early Pal is best for carrying heavy materials?

Cattiva is the direct answer because Cat Helper adds 100 carrying capacity while it is in your party. The effect is a single non-stacking bonus, so extra Cattiva copies should be justified by base work rather than more carrying capacity.

Can Daedream reduce a wild Pal to exactly one HP?

After its Necklace is unlocked, Dream Chaser’s Dark bullets cannot reduce the target below 1 HP. Daedream can still cause a knockout through other follow-up damage, so remove it when a capture attempt requires precise control.

Is an Alpha Chillet required for an early playthrough?

No. The level 11 Alpha at Windswept Hills is an optional investment for players who value a rideable Ice/Dragon Pal, Cooling 2 or mounted Dragon attacks. A basic mount and broad workers can cover progression without it.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

When should I stop using Vixy at my Ranch?

Switch Vixy out when Pal Spheres and arrows are no longer the resource limiting your captures. At that point, the Ranch slot may create more value by covering a production job your base cannot staff.

Which mount is best if I only care about gathering stone?

Rushoar is the specialized choice: its mounted ability provides a 500% stone-destruction efficiency increase. It is less useful than Direhowl for general speed or Eikthyrdeer for wood and vertical traversal.
