1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single best Palworld world-settings preset. A cooperative building group, a small group focused on breeding, and a PvP server need different rates and rules. The reliable method is to edit the server’s PalWorldSettings.ini, change one group of options at a time, restart the server, and test the result with your players.
This guide shows where the file lives, how its one-line format works, which settings matter most, and how to build a balanced configuration without treating an unverified community preset as an official default.

What “best” means for a Palworld dedicated server
World settings are server-wide rules. They affect every player and every world activity: experience gain, Pal capture, Pal spawns, resource collection, hunger, stamina, combat damage, death penalties, PvP, base capacity and administration. The right values depend on how much time your group wants to spend gathering and progressing versus building, exploring and fighting.

Use a baseline close to the shipped configuration, then adjust the bottleneck your group actually notices. If progression feels slow, change experience or collection rates rather than every multiplier. If combat feels unfair, adjust damage or death settings instead of making all activities faster. A dedicated server is easiest to maintain when each change has a stated purpose and is recorded for the other administrators.
Where PalWorldSettings.ini is stored
The file is inside the dedicated server’s saved configuration directory:
| Server platform | Expected path |
|---|---|
| Linux | Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini |
| Windows | Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini |
Some community instructions spell the directory as Configs rather than Config. Use the folder that actually exists in your server installation; do not create a parallel directory with a similar name. If the file is absent, look for DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini in the server files.
Create the editable settings file safely
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly so it is not writing save data while you edit configuration.
- Open the platform-specific directory shown above.
- Copy
DefaultPalWorldSettings.iniand rename the copy toPalWorldSettings.ini. - Keep the original default file untouched. It is your recovery copy when a typo prevents startup or a later patch changes available options.
- Back up the new file and your world save before making substantial changes.
Edit PalWorldSettings.ini, not the default template. The template is intended as a source for creating the active file; changing it may have no effect on the running world.
Understand the required file format
The file begins with this header:
[/Script/Pal.PalGameWorldSettings]
All world options follow in one OptionSettings=(...) line. Keep the complete option list on a single physical line. Do not insert line breaks between commas, and do not add JSON braces, quotation marks around numeric values, or a second settings block. A syntactically valid-looking multiline edit can be ignored or fail to load.
Copy option names exactly, including capitalization and punctuation. Hunger and stamina options retain the misspelled word Decreace in their key names. Correcting that spelling to “Decrease” creates a different, unrecognized key.

- 32GB DDR5 RAM + 512GB SSD - The K12 mini computer is equipped with Dual 16GB (Total 32GB) SO-DIMM DDR5 5600MHz memory sticks. 512GB PCIE 4.0 SSD Drive with 3x M.2 2280 Expansion slots. Each slot capable of reading up to 8TB. (24TB MAX)
- QUAD SCREEN 4K DISPLAY SUPPORT - K12 Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and USB Type-C Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
Use the value type already shown by the template: decimal multipliers such as 1.200000, Boolean values such as True or False, and integer counts or ports. Preserve commas between entries and keep the opening and closing parentheses balanced.
Restart and confirm every change
Palworld reads world settings at server startup. Save the file, start the server again, and only then test the change. A live restart is not optional: editing the file while the process is running does not reliably reload options.
Make one related change at a time and record the old and new values. Have a player perform a simple repeatable test—for example, observe an experience award, attempt a capture, or check a death outcome—so you know whether the setting loaded. If several values change together, you will not know which one caused an unexpected result.
A practical way to choose rates
Rates are multipliers, not universal quality scores. Increasing one shortens a particular activity; it does not automatically make the whole server better. Decide what your group wants to preserve before changing anything.
| Goal | Settings to consider | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Faster character and Pal progression | ExpRate |
Players can out-level available equipment and bosses. |
| Less time spent throwing spheres | PalCaptureRate |
Capturing becomes trivial if rewards and combat remain unchanged. |
| More or fewer wild Pals | PalSpawnNumRate |
Higher populations can increase combat and server load. |
| Shorter gathering sessions | CollectionDropRate |
Crafting may become limited by recipes or progression rather than materials. |
| Less survival maintenance | Hunger and stamina rate options | Movement and food systems lose significance if reduced too far. |
Use a documented example as a starting point, not a rule
One third-party “best settings” guide reports ExpRate=1.200000, PalCaptureRate=1.500000 and CollectionDropRate=1.500000, with most other rates at 1.0. Those are that guide’s example values, not verified official defaults or a universal recommendation. If you adopt them, tell players that they are a trial preset and review the experience after a few play sessions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Keep related rates coherent
Large differences between experience, capture, drops and spawns can create an uneven progression curve. For example, very high experience with unchanged material collection can leave players over-leveled but unable to craft the equipment expected at that level. Conversely, high drops with a normal experience rate can remove the purpose of gathering without speeding unlocks. Change the narrowest set of multipliers that solves your group’s complaint.

Difficulty and combat settings
Combat options include PalDamageRateDefense and PlayerDamageRateDefense. These are defense-related multipliers: lower defense values make the affected Pals or players tougher to defeat, while higher values generally make damage more decisive. Confirm the behavior in a controlled fight after changing a value, because the practical effect depends on which side of combat the option targets.
Do not alter both Pal and player defense at once unless you want a broad difficulty shift. Test a normal wild encounter and a fight against a stronger enemy, then ask whether healing, armor and ammunition still matter. Document the intended difficulty in your server rules so new players are not surprised by a custom balance.
Death penalties and player-versus-player rules
DeathPenalty
DeathPenalty determines what a player loses on death. Community guides report that an early-access default of All was later softened to Item, but that version history is not an authoritative statement of the current patch’s default. Check the value in the default file shipped with your server version before describing it as default.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Choose a penalty that matches travel distance and your group’s tolerance for recovery runs. A severe penalty can make risky exploration meaningful; a lighter one reduces frustration after disconnects or accidental falls. Explain the rule before players commit to a long expedition.
Enable or disable PvP deliberately
bEnablePlayerToPlayerDamagecontrols whether players can damage one another.bEnableFriendlyFirecontrols damage among otherwise allied or friendly players.
For a cooperative server, disable both unless the group specifically wants consensual or unrestricted combat. For a PvP server, publish whether friendly fire is active and establish rules for bases, raids and offline players; the configuration switch alone does not create a complete moderation policy.
Base camps, workers and guild growth
BaseCampMaxNum is the server-wide cap on the number of base camps. Third-party guides sometimes list a default of 128, but that number is not confirmed against an official current default. Treat the value in your shipped template as authoritative for your exact server build.

BaseCampWorkerMaxNum controls the worker allowance associated with bases. Raising it gives guilds more automation capacity but increases simulation work and can affect server performance. Increase it only when the group has a clear need, then watch stability with several bases active at once.
Do not solve a performance problem by raising both camp count and workers simultaneously. Change one limit, test a busy period, and keep a rollback value. A lower cap can be the fairer choice when a small community would otherwise allow one guild to consume most of the shared simulation budget.

| Option area | Purpose | Operational advice |
|---|---|---|
ServerName |
Public name shown to players | Use a stable name that identifies the community and ruleset. |
ServerPassword |
Player access control | Share it privately and change it if it is exposed. |
AdminPassword |
Administrative authentication | Use a separate strong value; never reuse the player password. |
ServerPlayerMaxNum |
Maximum simultaneous players | Set it to a population your hardware and bandwidth can support. |
PublicPort |
Port advertised or forwarded for connections | Match the firewall and router rule exactly. |
| RCON and REST API options | Remote administration and integrations | Enable only what you use and restrict access at the network boundary. |
These options are independent of progression rates. A server can have ideal world balance and still be unreachable because the public port is blocked or an administration endpoint is exposed incorrectly. Make network changes during a maintenance window and test from a separate connection when possible.
Why Palworld server settings do not apply
The file is in the wrong directory
Confirm that the active process is using the same server installation you edited. Check the platform folder name (LinuxServer or WindowsServer) and verify that the file is named exactly PalWorldSettings.ini, including capitalization and the .ini extension.
The option line is malformed
Open the file and check the header, the single-line OptionSettings=(...) block, commas, parentheses and value types. Remove accidental line breaks and restore the template if the server stops loading after an edit.
Recommended Free Tools
The server was not fully restarted
Stop the process, wait for it to exit, then start it again. Merely disconnecting players, restarting a wrapper panel, or saving the file does not guarantee that Palworld re-read the options.

The existing world is overriding the edit
Some worlds also store settings in WorldOption.sav. If a valid file, correct path and full restart still produce the old behavior, check whether that save contains the world’s current options. Back up the world before changing or removing save data, and make one controlled change so you can identify whether the override was the cause.
A key is unavailable in your server build
Option names and defaults can change with patches. Compare your file with the DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini shipped with the same server version instead of copying a list from an older guide. An option absent from the current template may be ignored, renamed or handled elsewhere.
A repeatable tuning workflow
- Ask players to identify one concrete problem: slow leveling, excessive farming, harsh deaths, crowded bases or unwanted PvP.
- Back up the world and current
PalWorldSettings.ini. - Select only the option group related to that problem.
- Change the smallest practical amount and preserve the file’s syntax.
- Stop and restart the server.
- Run a repeatable in-game test and record the observed result.
- Let the group play under the new value long enough to expose secondary effects.
- Keep the change, adjust it, or restore the backup; then document the decision for future administrators.
This process prevents a common failure mode: stacking many “best settings” lists until the server’s economy, combat and workload no longer have a predictable relationship.

Version and default caveats for 2026 servers
Early-access settings should not be assumed to describe the current release. Reports mention a reduction in default hatching time from 72 hours to one hour and a change in the reported death-penalty default from All to Item. Verify both against the default file included with the exact patch you are running before publishing server rules or comparing two installations.
No official Pocketpair dedicated-server reference was identified for the defaults and valid ranges covered here. Community values are useful starting points, but they are not proof of a hard cap, supported range or current default. In particular, a reported experience-rate cap of 20 is not established as an official limit. Use the shipped template and in-game testing as your authority for the installed build.
Recommended checklist before opening the server
- The active file is in the correct platform-specific directory.
DefaultPalWorldSettings.iniremains unchanged as a recovery copy.- The header and one-line
OptionSettings=(...)block are intact. - Misspelled keys such as the hunger and stamina
Decreacenames were copied exactly. - Rates, combat, death, PvP, base and worker decisions are written in the server rules.
- The player and administrator passwords are different.
- The public port, firewall and router configuration agree.
- The server has been fully restarted after the final edit.
- A player has tested at least one changed behavior and the result is recorded.
- A backup exists before the first live session.
Bottom line
Start with the values in your server’s own default file, then tune only the settings that address your group’s actual play style. The safest “best” configuration is a documented, tested compromise: coherent rates, an explicit death and PvP policy, base limits that match your hardware, and a restart-and-verify step after every edit.
