There is no single best preset for every PC in Gears of War: E-Day. The reliable approach is to verify that your system meets the current requirements, install the game on a compatible SSD, record a benchmark baseline, then change one graphics or upscaling option at a time while checking frame rate, frame pacing, image quality and input response.

What to do first: check the requirements

Gears of War: E-Day launched on October 6, 2026. Its Steam listing publishes unusually specific PC requirements and warns that specifications can change. Treat the table below as a compatibility check, not as a guarantee of a particular resolution, quality preset or frame rate.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Tier Processor Memory Graphics card Operating system Other requirements
Minimum AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6850K or Intel Core i5-10400 12 GB RAM Ray-tracing-capable GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600 or RX 9060 Windows 10 64-bit, version 22H, build 19045.7291 DirectX 12, SSD and 115 GB available space
Recommended AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-11600K 16 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 or RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or RX 9060 XT Windows 11 64-bit, version 25H2 or newer DirectX 12, SSD and 115 GB available space

These are the published minimum and recommended combinations, not interchangeable performance tiers. A processor that matches the recommended row does not make up for a graphics card below the minimum row, and meeting the recommended row does not establish 4K or ray-traced performance. Check the live Steam listing before installing because the publisher says the requirements may change.

Why the SSD requirement matters

An SSD and 115 GB of free space are prerequisites for both listed tiers. They should be checked before you spend time adjusting graphics settings. An SSD can improve loading consistency and asset delivery, but the requirement is not evidence that replacing a drive will raise average FPS. The official beta FAQ separately warned that hard-disk drives were unsupported and could cause long loading, missing assets, stutter and crashes. That beta warning is useful context, but it is not a current promise about every configuration.

Check the installation drive

  1. Open your game launcher and locate Gears of War: E-Day‘s installation location.
  2. Confirm that the destination is an SSD rather than an HDD.
  3. Leave at least 115 GB available as required by the listing, plus additional headroom for updates and the operating system.
  4. If the game is on an HDD, move or reinstall it to an SSD before diagnosing graphics performance. A drive move addresses a storage compatibility problem; it does not guarantee a higher in-game frame rate.

Use the built-in benchmark instead of guessing

Steam advertises a built-in benchmark. Use it as a repeatable reference for your own PC rather than treating an internet preset as universal. The following procedure is practical tuning guidance, not an official tested recipe.

  1. Choose the outcome first. Select the display resolution you actually intend to play at and set a realistic frame-rate target. Consider whether your priority is a steady minimum, the highest average number, image quality or low input latency.
  2. Record a baseline. Start from the game’s current default or recommended configuration, note the resolution, quality options, upscaling mode, frame-generation state and displayed benchmark results, and save a screenshot or written log.
  3. Keep the test repeatable. Use the same resolution, scene, display mode and background applications for every run. Do not compare one run with frame generation enabled against another with it disabled and call the difference a quality-setting result.
  4. Change one variable. Alter one graphics, resolution, upscaling or frame-generation setting, then rerun the benchmark. Changing several options at once prevents you from knowing which trade-off produced the result.
  5. Evaluate more than average FPS. Record the displayed average and low figures when the benchmark reports them, and watch for stutter or uneven frame pacing. A higher average that feels less consistent is not automatically an improvement.
  6. Inspect the image. Look for fine-detail stability, shimmering, ghosting, soft edges and distracting reconstruction artifacts at the target resolution. Read the result during motion, not only from a paused frame.
  7. Check responsiveness. Test camera movement and aiming after each change. Frame-generation features can alter the relationship between rendered frames and displayed frames, so a larger number on the counter does not by itself prove better control response.
  8. Keep the best measured change. If an option improves the target you care about without an unacceptable image or latency cost, keep it. Otherwise restore the previous value and test the next option.

Run the benchmark again after a game patch or graphics-driver update. Performance and feature support can change even when your hardware has not.

Set resolution and frame-rate goals before quality options

Resolution determines how many pixels the GPU must render, while a frame-rate goal determines how much time each frame has. Decide those two constraints before choosing quality settings. A 60-frame target and a high-refresh target impose different limits, and a resolution that is comfortable for one graphics card may be unrealistic for another.

Native rendering versus reconstruction

Use native rendering as an image-quality reference when your hardware can sustain it. If it cannot meet your target, compare a supported upscaling mode at the same output resolution rather than lowering several unrelated settings at once. Keep a note of the internal-quality mode you select so later benchmark runs remain comparable.

Uncapped frame rates

The PC listing advertises uncapped frame rates on capable hardware. Uncapping is useful when you are measuring the system’s limit or using a display whose refresh rate benefits from additional frames. It can also increase power use, heat and fan noise. If your goal is stable pacing, compare an uncapped run with a cap appropriate for your display and judge consistency, not only the peak number.

Compare the supported upscaling and frame-generation features

The store listing names NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR “Redstone,” optional Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation on supported hardware, and Variable Rate Shading. The wording is important: advanced features require compatible hardware and a compatible display, and the listing does not promise identical support across all graphics cards.

Option What to compare What the published information establishes
DLSS 4.5 Output sharpness, temporal stability, low-frame behavior, latency and GPU utilization at your chosen resolution Listed as an available NVIDIA upscaling feature; compatibility depends on hardware and the game implementation
FSR “Redstone” The same image-quality and responsiveness criteria, using the mode supported by your hardware Listed as an available AMD upscaling feature; support is not stated to be universal
Frame Generation Displayed frame rate, frame pacing, camera and aiming response, and artifacts during motion Optional on supported hardware; displayed frames are not necessarily equivalent to independently rendered frames
Multi Frame Generation Responsiveness and stability as well as the larger displayed number Optional on supported hardware; the listing does not define one setting that suits every GPU or display
Variable Rate Shading Performance change against visible loss of detail in motion or peripheral areas Advertised as a PC feature; the useful level depends on implementation and hardware

A practical comparison order

  1. Benchmark at your target output resolution without frame generation so you have a direct rendering reference.
  2. Compare the supported upscaling modes one at a time at that same output resolution.
  3. Choose the mode that meets your image-quality threshold and frame-rate target.
  4. Only then test Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation, if your GPU and display support them.
  5. Check input response in actual play, because generated frames can raise the displayed count without eliminating the latency of the underlying rendered frames.

Do not assume a mode with a familiar name works on every card, or that two modes at the same nominal quality produce identical images. The official listing supplies feature names, not a universal ranking.

Shader compilation: what Advanced Shader Delivery changes

Microsoft DirectX describes Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) as a way to deliver precompiled shaders with the game download. Microsoft reports approximately 95% less shader compilation time on supported setups. That figure concerns compilation time, not a 95% increase in gameplay FPS.

Compatibility and setup

Microsoft’s October 1, 2026 DirectX post says ASD requires Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher and depends on supported hardware and drivers. It also instructs players to install the Xbox PC app before downloading the game to experience ASD. If ASD is unavailable on your system, do not interpret ordinary first-launch shader work as proof that your graphics settings are wrong.

The expected benefit is shorter initial shader preparation and less shader-related startup stutter. ASD is not a replacement for meeting the CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX 12, SSD or free-space requirements, and it is not evidence that a particular texture, shadow or ray-tracing option will run faster.

What the evidence does—and does not—say about individual settings

No official setting-by-setting test ranks textures, shadows, ray tracing or post-processing by performance cost for every hardware tier. The published material therefore cannot support a definitive list such as “turn off option X for Y FPS.” Costs vary with resolution, graphics architecture, processor load, driver version and game patches.

How to test a costly-looking option responsibly

  • Change only that option while preserving resolution, upscaling and frame-generation state.
  • Run the built-in benchmark under identical conditions.
  • Record both average and low behavior, then watch for pacing irregularities.
  • Inspect a repeatable motion scene for image changes.
  • Keep the setting disabled or reduced only if the measured trade-off matches your target.

This method applies equally to ray tracing and post-processing. The minimum GPU tier itself is described as ray-tracing-capable, but that capability does not specify a ray-tracing quality level or resolution.

Troubleshoot by symptom

Low FPS in the benchmark and in play

  • Confirm that your processor and graphics card meet at least the published minimum tier, and compare the entire configuration rather than one component.
  • Verify that the game is using the intended GPU, especially on systems with integrated and discrete graphics.
  • Lower the output resolution or compare a supported upscaling mode before reducing several quality settings together.
  • Retest with frame generation off to establish the independently rendered baseline, then evaluate it separately if supported.
  • Check current vendor drivers and game updates. The beta FAQ’s old driver references are historical and should not be treated as current version advice.

Stutter, long loads, missing assets or crashes

  • Move the installation from an HDD to an SSD and confirm adequate free space.
  • Allow first-launch shader preparation to complete instead of repeatedly interrupting it.
  • Check whether your Windows version, driver and hardware meet ASD support conditions if you expect Advanced Shader Delivery.
  • Run the benchmark after restarting the game to see whether the symptom reproduces consistently.

The beta FAQ specifically associated unsupported HDD installations with loading, missing-asset, stutter and crash problems. That is a reason to satisfy the SSD requirement, not a guarantee that every stutter has a storage cause.

Intel Arc A580 or B580 performance concerns

The beta FAQ warned that performance on Intel Arc A580 and B580 could be significantly reduced when Resizable BAR (ReBAR) was disabled. Because that guidance came from the beta period, use your current motherboard documentation and Intel driver guidance to verify ReBAR rather than copying a dated beta driver recommendation. If you change firmware settings, confirm that the system still boots correctly and rerun the benchmark.

The frame counter rises but controls feel worse

Separate rendered frames from displayed frames. Disable Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation, benchmark again and compare aiming and camera response. If the non-generated baseline is below your target, first improve the underlying render path with resolution or supported upscaling changes, then retest generation as an optional second stage.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When a hardware upgrade is justified

Use the published tiers to identify a compatibility shortfall, not to predict an exact upgrade result. A PC below the minimum GPU or CPU row may need new hardware before graphics tuning can produce a stable experience. A system that meets minimum requirements but misses your resolution or frame-rate goal may benefit from a graphics-card or processor upgrade, but the requirements table does not name a “best” card or guarantee a preset at a specific resolution.

  • GPU shortfall: compare your card’s ray-tracing capability and model against the minimum row, then consider the intended output resolution and feature support.
  • CPU shortfall: compare the exact processor model, not only its core count or advertised clock.
  • Memory shortfall: 12 GB is the published minimum and 16 GB the recommended amount; background applications can reduce what remains available.
  • Platform shortfall: verify Windows version, DirectX 12 support, SSD installation and free space before buying a faster component.

Current prices, driver behavior and game patches change quickly. Check those details at the time of purchase rather than treating the launch requirements as a permanent product ranking.

A repeatable settings checklist

  1. Confirm the live Steam requirements, including the required Windows edition, DirectX 12, SSD and available space.
  2. Install the game on an SSD and leave update headroom beyond the listed capacity.
  3. Update the operating system, GPU driver and game through their current official channels.
  4. Choose your display resolution and frame-rate goal.
  5. Run the built-in benchmark and record the baseline configuration and results.
  6. Compare supported upscaling modes one at a time.
  7. Test Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation separately, only when your hardware and display support them.
  8. Change individual quality settings only after the resolution and upscaling decision is clear.
  9. Judge average and low performance, frame pacing, image quality and input response together.
  10. Repeat the benchmark after patches, driver changes or major Windows updates.

Bottom line

The best PC settings for Gears of War: E-Day are the settings that meet your chosen resolution and frame-rate goal on your specific hardware without unacceptable image or control compromises. Start with compatibility and storage, use the built-in benchmark, change one option at a time, and treat upscaling and frame generation as hardware-dependent tools rather than guaranteed upgrades. Advanced Shader Delivery can reduce supported shader-compilation time by approximately 95 percent, but it is a startup and stutter technology—not a promise of higher gameplay FPS.
