“Back paddles” is not a single standard. A controller may use paddles that sit under your middle fingers, small buttons on the rear shell, rear triggers, or additional bumpers on the top edge. Assignments are created in the PS5 settings for the controller. You can save multiple configurations for different games or control schemes, then use the controller’s Fn controls to switch profiles during play. This is useful when one game needs a jump or crouch command on a rear button while another uses the same position for a reload or ability.
Sony’s support documentation sets two boundaries that matter when planning a layout. The Fn button itself cannot be reassigned, and a different button cannot be configured to function as L2 or R2. Those limits prevent a fully arbitrary map, particularly for games that rely heavily on analog trigger input.

Stick, dead-zone, and trigger adjustments
The Edge exposes settings beyond button labels. Stick sensitivity changes how quickly an input reaches the game’s response curve, while a dead-zone setting determines how far a stick must move before the console recognizes it. Trigger settings can alter the usable travel. These controls are separate from in-game sensitivity and should be adjusted gradually so that a new profile remains predictable.

What to verify

Reflex models are not identical
“Reflex” is a family name, not a single specification. SCUF’s product information distinguishes variants, including models with instant triggers intended to shorten trigger travel and selected versions with a grip finish. Do not assume that a feature listed for an FPS model or a particular finish is present on every Reflex controller.

SCUF’s support guidance says only SCUF Reflex paddles are compatible with Reflex controllers. If a paddle is lost or damaged, match the replacement to the Reflex family rather than buying a generic part based only on its shape.
Who should choose it
- Players who want four rear assignments and are comfortable learning a paddle grip.
- Users who prefer profiles stored on the controller rather than managed through a console menu.
- Players willing to compare Reflex variants for trigger and grip features before ordering.
What to verify
Read the specification for the exact Reflex variant, confirm which commands are legal paddle assignments, and check replacement availability for that model. The family label alone does not answer those questions.
Razer Wolverine V2 Pro: best for a mixed rear-and-top layout
The Wolverine V2 Pro uses four rear triggers together with two multifunction bumpers on the top of the controller. This gives it a different reach pattern from both the Edge and Reflex: some extra commands are accessed by the fingers behind the controller, while others are available near the index fingers.
App-based remapping
Razer documents remapping through its Controller app for iOS or Android. The phone-based workflow means that profile creation and edits happen outside the PS5 settings menus. Install the current app, pair or connect the controller as instructed, make a conservative first map, and test every input in a game before relying on it.

What to verify
Check the app’s current operating-system support and the exact remapping behavior before purchase. The app workflow is a core part of ownership, not an optional accessory to the controller.
How to choose the right layout
Start with the number of simultaneous commands
Write down the actions you want to perform without lifting your thumbs from the analog sticks. In a shooter, that might include jump, crouch, reload, melee, or an ability. In a racing game, it could be gear changes or camera controls. If two assignments cover your needs, the Edge’s compact rear layout may be sufficient. If four independent rear actions are essential, look at the Reflex family or Wolverine V2 Pro.
Match the control to your finger reach
Rear paddles and triggers are not interchangeable in feel. A paddle usually requires a deliberate press from the middle or ring finger; a rear trigger may encourage a shorter, quicker movement. Build a proposed map using only documented assignments. The Edge has restrictions around Fn and L2/R2 behavior. Reflex paddles cannot receive Create, Options, Home, or trigger functions. Treat any unlisted command as unavailable until the controller’s official documentation confirms it.

Decide where profiles should live
PS5-managed profiles favor a console-centered setup. Onboard profiles favor portability between compatible systems and quick recall after the initial configuration. A mobile-app workflow adds another device but may provide a familiar interface for editing. Choose the method you will realistically use; a technically capable profile system is not useful if changing it is inconvenient.
Consider adjustment depth
If you regularly tune aim, stick sensitivity, dead zones, or trigger travel, the Edge’s documented adjustment controls are a major selection criterion. If rear-input count matters more than those settings, the Reflex or Wolverine layout may fit better. None of these feature descriptions is a measured claim about accuracy or reaction time.

- Changing several sensitivity controls at once: make one adjustment, test it, and keep a known-good profile.
