What to check before buying a GT7 wheel
Gran Turismo 7 runs on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but compatibility is not automatic for every USB wheel. Check the exact model name, not just a product family. A wheel advertised for PC may require a separate PlayStation license or may not work on a console at all.

Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7 Online Manual says, “Using a steering wheel controller to play Gran Turismo 7 can offer a more realistic driving experience.” Its supported-wheel list includes the THRUSTMASTER T300RS, THRUSTMASTER T500RS (PlayStation 4 system only), Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Fanatec CSL Elite Racing Wheel. The T500RS entry is specifically limited to PS4, so it should not be treated as a PS5 recommendation.

Best overall: Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals
Why it is the safest purchase
Logitech specifies the G923 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC, and Sony’s PlayStation Store lists the wheel-and-pedal bundle as compatible with PS5, PS4 and Windows PC. Gran Turismo’s own supported-wheel documentation also names the G923. That three-way agreement is valuable: you are not relying on an unofficial adapter or a compatibility claim that applies only to a different regional model.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The G923 uses Logitech’s TRUEFORCE system, rated at 2.3 Nm on Logitech’s current specification page. In GT7, TRUEFORCE can provide engine and wheel-slip vibration effects. Gran Turismo’s Logitech compatibility notice describes those effects as reproducing “car engine vibrations and wheel slip vibrations.” The result is more game-specific feedback than a wheel that only supplies generic steering resistance.
What comes in the bundle
The standard product is sold as a wheel-and-pedal package, so a new buyer does not need to source pedals separately. The pedal set covers the basic controls required by GT7. Confirm the exact contents when buying a regional or refurbished listing, because sellers sometimes combine a wheel with a different accessory bundle.
Where it gives up performance
The G923 is an entry-level force-feedback wheel. Its geared mechanism and 2.3 Nm rating are designed for accessible console use, not the stronger, smoother torque and finer detail associated with direct drive. That does not make it unsuitable for GT7; it means the wheel is easier to mount and less demanding on a stand, while offering less headroom for an enthusiast who wants heavy steering loads or a highly detailed signal.

Choose the G923 if you are moving from a gamepad, want one purchase that works on both generations of PlayStation, and prefer a straightforward bundle. It is also the sensible choice when several family members will use the setup or when the wheel must be clamped to a normal desk and stored after play.

Best mid-range alternative: Thrustmaster T300RS GT
Why choose the T300RS GT
Thrustmaster presents the T300RS GT Edition as a PS4 and PS5 wheel designed for Gran Turismo 7, and its support material lists Gran Turismo 7 among the supported games for the T300 family. The T300RS GT is the main alternative for a player who wants a more refined belt-driven feel without moving to direct drive.
A belt-driven force-feedback system sits between the entry-level geared approach and direct drive. It is generally chosen for smoother steering resistance and a less notchy feel than a basic gear train, while remaining easier to accommodate than a high-torque direct-drive base. Those are design distinctions, not a laboratory ranking: the experience still depends on game settings, mounting rigidity and the condition of the individual unit.
Check the exact GT Edition contents
“T300RS GT” identifies a particular PlayStation-oriented bundle, but retailer listings can differ by territory. Confirm that the listing includes the wheelbase, the intended GT Edition rim and the pedal set before ordering. If a listing shows only a wheelbase or uses a generic T300 photograph, do not assume it is the complete GT bundle.
Who should buy it
- Choose it when you want a mid-range belt-driven system and already have, or plan to add, other Thrustmaster accessories.
- Choose it when a direct-drive wheel would exceed your mounting space, budget or preferred setup complexity.
- Choose the G923 instead when documented cross-generation simplicity and TRUEFORCE are more important than an upgrade path.
Best first direct drive: Thrustmaster T598
What makes it different
Thrustmaster presents the T598 as a PS5 and PS4 product, while TechRadar describes it as an accessible direct-drive entry point. The package described by TechRadar includes the wheel, wheelbase and two pedals. Direct drive places the motor directly on the steering shaft, removing the intermediate gear or belt transmission used by lower-cost designs. This category is intended for players who want more force, detail and upgrade potential and who can provide a rigid mounting solution.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Plan for tuning
TechRadar notes that T598 settings may need per-game adjustment. Treat that as part of ownership rather than evidence of incompatibility. Start with the wheel’s current firmware and default output, confirm that GT7 recognizes the controls, and then make one change at a time to steering angle, force strength or vibration intensity. Record settings that feel comfortable so you can restore them after an update or when switching between games.
Mounting and room requirements
A direct-drive base can expose flex in a lightweight desk or folding stand. Before buying, check the stand’s stated load and mounting-hole pattern and ensure that the pedals cannot slide away under braking. A rigid wheel stand or cockpit is not merely cosmetic: movement between the base and the pedals makes consistent inputs harder and can force you to reduce the feedback strength.
When the T598 is the right step
Buy the T598 when you already know you want direct drive but do not want to assemble a premium multi-component rig immediately. It is a better fit for a dedicated space than for a wheel that must be unclamped after every race. If you are uncertain whether sim racing will become a regular hobby, the G923 or T300RS GT is a lower-risk starting point.
Premium enthusiast option: Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro
Why it belongs in a separate tier
The Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro is a PlayStation-compatible direct-drive platform aimed at enthusiasts. Its appeal is the ability to build around a dedicated wheelbase and expand the control hardware over time. That flexibility also means you must pay closer attention to the exact package: wheel rim, pedals, table clamp, quick-release parts and other accessories may differ between bundles.

Who should consider it
- Enthusiasts who already have a rigid cockpit or intend to build one.
- Players who value an expandable hardware ecosystem more than a simple all-in-one package.
- Buyers willing to compare bundle contents, shipping, warranty terms and regional PlayStation compatibility before paying.
For a first wheel, the DD Pro can be unnecessarily complex. A complete T598 setup is easier to specify, while the G923 is easier to store and troubleshoot. The DD Pro makes sense when the rig itself is a long-term hobby rather than a one-off GT7 accessory.

How to set up a racing wheel for GT7
- Prepare the mounting surface. Attach the wheel to a desk, wheel stand or cockpit that does not rock. For direct drive, use the rigid stand or cockpit recommended for the base.
- Connect the pedals to the wheelbase. Keep the cable away from the steering shaft and leave enough slack for the wheel to rotate fully.
- Connect the wheel to the PlayStation. Use the supplied USB connection, select the PlayStation mode identified by the manufacturer, and connect power if the base requires it.
- Start the console and GT7. Confirm that the console recognizes the wheel before launching a race. If the wheel is not detected, shut down the console, reseat the USB and power connections, select the correct console mode, and try a different USB port.
- Assign controls in GT7. Open the game’s controller or steering-wheel settings, verify steering, throttle and brake input, and map any buttons you need for menus, look-back or driving aids.
- Set feedback conservatively first. Begin with the wheel’s default force and vibration values. Increase one setting at a time after confirming that the wheel remains comfortable and does not move on its mount.
- Save a known-good profile. Write down your settings for each wheel. This is especially useful for the T598, where per-game adjustment may be necessary.
G923 connectivity and troubleshooting
Gran Turismo’s Logitech notice says that PS4 system software 10.50 and PS5 system software 23.01-07.00.00, released March 8, 2023, included G923 connectivity repairs. If an older console has trouble seeing the wheel, update the PlayStation system software before assuming the wheel is defective.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- No lights or response: Check the power connection, USB connection and console-mode switch, then restart the console.
- Wheel detected but no steering: Recheck the GT7 control assignment and allow the wheel to complete its startup calibration before entering a race.
- Pedals do not register: Reseat the pedal cable at the wheelbase and test each pedal in the game’s input screen.
- Feedback is absent: Confirm that force feedback is enabled in the game and that the wheel is firmly connected; do not diagnose TRUEFORCE from a title that does not support its effects.
- Wheel disconnects during play: Remove USB hubs or extension points where possible, secure the cable, and test the console’s other USB port.
Accessories that make the setup better
Driving Force Shifter for G923
Logitech’s catalogue names the Driving Force Shifter for G923 and G29 wheels. It is an optional purchase, not part of the standard wheel-and-pedal bundle. Add it if you prefer a manual H-pattern control and have a mount that can hold both the wheel and shifter without flex.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Wheel stand or cockpit
A GT7 wheel stand should keep the wheelbase and pedals aligned and stop the pedals from sliding. For a G923, a sturdy desk can be enough. For the T598 or DD Pro, budget for a rigid stand or cockpit and check the mounting pattern before ordering. A seat that moves under braking defeats much of the benefit of stronger force feedback.
Replacement or upgraded pedals
Do not assume that a more expensive wheel automatically includes better pedals. Compare the pedals in the exact bundle and decide whether you would rather buy a complete package now or leave room for a later pedal upgrade within that manufacturer’s ecosystem.
Which wheel should you buy?
Pick the Logitech G923 if…
- You want the clearest documented PS5 and PS4 path.
- You need wheel and pedals in one approachable package.
- You will use a desk or compact stand.
- You want GT7’s documented TRUEFORCE engine and wheel-slip effects.
Pick the T300RS GT if…
- You prefer a belt-driven mid-range design.
- You want to build within the Thrustmaster ecosystem.
- You have confirmed the exact GT Edition bundle and its pedals.
Pick the T598 if…
- You specifically want direct drive on PS5 or PS4.
- You can provide a rigid mount.
- You are comfortable adjusting settings for individual games.
Pick the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro if…
- You are building a long-term enthusiast rig.
- You want a PlayStation-compatible direct-drive platform with expansion options.
- You have checked the current regional bundle, price, stock and warranty.
Bottom line
The Logitech G923 is the best default recommendation for Gran Turismo 7 on either PS5 or PS4 because its compatibility is documented by the console maker, Logitech and the game’s own manual, and because the package includes the basic hardware needed to start racing. Move to the Thrustmaster T300RS GT for a belt-driven alternative, to the Thrustmaster T598 when direct drive is the priority, or to the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro when you are ready to build a premium enthusiast cockpit.
