For the Steam version of Final Fantasy IX, start in the stock launcher at your monitor’s native resolution and leave the game’s other settings at their defaults. Pick fullscreen or windowed mode according to which behaves reliably on your system. For widescreen options or frame-rate controls beyond the stock setup, Memoria is an optional community project—not an official Square Enix utility—and its available settings depend on the version you install.
Start with the stock PC version
The Steam edition lists high-definition movies and character models, but its store page does not prescribe a graphics preset or describe a broad set of modern quality sliders. Begin with the options the game’s own launcher exposes rather than assuming that a particular combination is universally best. Steam’s FINAL FANTASY IX listing describes the PC edition and its features.

Choose a display mode
- Resolution: Choose your display’s native resolution if the launcher offers it. If the image looks stretched or scaled poorly, try another supported mode and check both gameplay and cutscenes.
- Fullscreen or windowed: Use fullscreen if it works reliably on your computer. Windowed mode may be more convenient for switching applications or avoiding display-mode problems. The available sources do not establish that either mode is universally faster.
- Other graphics options: Keep expectations modest: the store description highlights HD movies and character models but does not document a modern suite of adjustable graphics tiers.
Stock settings or Memoria?
Memoria is an optional open-source community rewrite of the game engine. The project says it aims to add features, fix bugs, and expand modding possibilities; that is the project’s own description, not an official Square Enix endorsement. Its README says primary options are in its launcher, with deeper settings in Memoria.ini. The project documents additions involving widescreen, frame rates, camera, rendering, controllers, audio, and the user interface. Widescreen and aspect ratio
Memoria release notes describe support ranging from 16:10 to ultrawide and recommend 16:9. That does not mean every release, scene, or configuration will behave identically. If you install Memoria, use the current launcher and release notes rather than copying an old configuration example as though it were a current default. The Steam Community’s unofficial Memoria/Moguri settings guide offers version-dependent examples, not publisher guidance.

There is a trade-off: an aspect-correct image preserves intended proportions, while a modified widescreen presentation can use more of a wide display. Check the result in both gameplay and cutscenes; do not assume a setting that works in one scene will look identical everywhere.
Frame rate is not game speed
Memoria documentation and community configuration examples distinguish FPS from TPS. FPS controls presentation smoothness; TPS is a separate game simulation or tick-speed setting. Raising TPS is not a graphics-quality improvement, and increasing FPS and TPS together should not be treated as one harmless upgrade.

Begin with default timing values. If the current Memoria launcher offers Auto FPS, its release notes describe it as following monitor refresh rate with V-Sync enabled and running unlimited otherwise. The project has also documented V-Sync and changing frame-rate options across releases, so check the release notes for your installed version before relying on a specific behavior. If you try a custom presentation frame rate, check movement, animations, and battles before keeping it.
Controller and keyboard choice
Steam lists partial controller support. A controller is an input preference, not a graphics upgrade or a requirement for changing display settings; keyboard play remains an option. Steam’s listing gives the support qualification but does not establish that every controller behaves identically.

These requirements are from the Steam game listing. Steam separately states that its client supports Windows 10 and later starting January 1, 2024. That client-support note is distinct from the game’s older listed operating-system requirements; neither should be mistaken for an up-to-date compatibility test.
