The fastest way to make a gacha game easier on your phone is to start with the Balanced or Low graphics preset, cap the game at 30 FPS, reduce screen brightness, and play over Wi‑Fi. Lower shadows, special effects, reflections, and render resolution if the game exposes those controls. Match the phone’s display refresh rate to the frame-rate target, then use Android Battery Saver/Data Saver or iOS Low Power Mode when you need longer sessions. If the phone becomes hot, reduce frame rate and effects again and pause if the heat persists.
What to change first
Use this order when you want an immediate improvement without making the game unreadable:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Choose Balanced, Medium, or Low graphics. Start with Balanced and step down if the phone heats up.
- Set the frame-rate limit to 30 FPS unless you specifically need smoother 45- or 60-FPS motion.
- Set shadows, special effects, reflections, and volumetric effects to Low or Off.
- Reduce render resolution and anti-aliasing one step at a time.
- Dim the display and set a high-refresh-rate phone to 60 Hz, or to the same refresh rate as the game’s target frame rate.
- Use Wi‑Fi for play, initial downloads, patches, voice packs, and other large assets.
- Turn on the operating system’s battery and data-saving modes when background activity is not important.
These changes attack different drains. Graphics and frame rate reduce CPU/GPU work; brightness reduces the display’s load; Wi‑Fi avoids the greater power cost of cellular radio use; and system saver modes limit background activity. No setting guarantees a fixed number of extra hours because phone hardware, signal strength, temperature, brightness, and the game engine all change the result.

Graphics and frame rate
Every additional frame requires the game to render, shade, and present another image. Higher resolution, shadows, reflections, post-processing, and particle effects increase that workload. A 60-FPS cap can require substantially more continuous work than 30 FPS, especially in a busy battle or open world.

Android Developers reports that FPS throttling can produce up to a 50% GPU power reduction and a 20% system power reduction. Those are documented upper bounds from Android’s testing and are not a promise for a particular game or phone. They show why a stable 30 FPS is often a better battery trade-off than an unstable 60 FPS.
Display refresh rate
A 120-Hz display can refresh twice as often as a 60-Hz display. Android’s documentation warns that higher refresh rates increase power consumption. If the game is capped at 30 FPS, a 120-Hz panel is spending energy refreshing at a rate the game cannot use. Set the display to 60 Hz for a 30-FPS target, or use the closest available rate to the game’s cap.
Brightness and radios
The screen is often one of the largest system-level drains during a long session. Cellular data also costs more power than Wi‑Fi under Apple’s guidance, particularly when signal strength is poor. Lower brightness to a comfortable level, prefer Wi‑Fi, and avoid playing in areas where the phone is constantly searching for a stronger cellular signal.
Heat and throttling
Graphics-heavy games generate heat. Android Developers explains that a hot device can downclock its CPU and GPU to cool itself, reducing performance and power efficiency. The result can be a vicious cycle: high settings create heat, throttling causes frame drops, and the game continues working hard to maintain an inconsistent result.
Battery-first, balanced, and quality-first profiles
Use the profile that fits the session rather than treating one configuration as universally correct. The values below are starting points; menu names and available frame-rate options differ by game and phone.
| Profile | Frame rate | Graphics | Display refresh | Brightness | Network | Expected heat | Visual result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battery-first | 30 FPS | Low or Balanced; shadows and effects Low/Off; reduced resolution | 60 Hz or the closest match to 30 FPS | As low as comfortable; Auto-Brightness is acceptable | Wi‑Fi; cellular disabled for the game when practical | Lowest of the three, but still dependent on the device and room temperature | Less detail and motion smoothness, usually the longest sessions |
| Balanced | 30 or 45 FPS | Balanced/Medium; reduce only the settings that cause heat | 60 Hz, or a rate matching the selected target | Moderate | Wi‑Fi preferred; cellular available for short sessions | Moderate | Good readability and responsiveness with a reasonable battery trade-off |
| Quality-first | 60 FPS where stable | High; effects and resolution enabled | 60, 90, or 120 Hz as supported | Higher brightness if needed outdoors | Wi‑Fi strongly preferred for long play | Highest; monitor for throttling | Smoother motion and richer effects, with shorter sessions and more heat |
Exact battery and data savings must be measured on your device. A newer phone may run a high preset efficiently, while an older phone may gain more from a 30-FPS cap than from any individual visual toggle.

In-game settings that usually matter most
Graphics preset
Open the game’s graphics or performance menu and select Balanced, Medium, or Low. A preset changes several costly options at once and is the quickest way to establish a cooler baseline. HoYoverse’s Help Center tells players with performance problems to lower in-game graphics settings, specifically naming Graphics Quality, Shadow Quality, and Special Effects.

Frame-rate limit
Choose 30 FPS for battery-first play. Try 45 or 60 FPS only if the phone stays cool and smoother camera movement or combat timing matters to you. A stable 30 FPS is generally preferable to a 60-FPS setting that repeatedly drops frames and drives the device at high power.
Shadows, special effects, and reflections
Set Shadow Quality and Special Effects to Low first. Reflections and volumetric effects are also good candidates for reduction because they add extra rendering passes. These controls are usually more valuable for battery than lowering texture quality.
Resolution and anti-aliasing
Reduce render resolution one step, test a busy area, and continue only if text and character outlines remain readable. Lower anti-aliasing if the game offers a separate control. Both affect GPU workload, but the exact labels vary: a game may call resolution Render Scale, Resolution Scale, or Dynamic Resolution.
Motion blur and depth of field
Turn Motion Blur and Depth of Field off when available. They are visual post-processing effects that may add GPU work, although the available guidance does not quantify their individual savings. Disable them if you do not value the effect.

Textures
Keep Texture Quality at Medium if Low makes menus, maps, or character details difficult to read. Texture changes can affect memory use and storage more than continuous network traffic, so they are usually a secondary battery adjustment compared with frame rate, shadows, and resolution.

Android settings
Battery controls
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Turn on Battery Saver when session length is more important than maximum performance. If your phone offers Adaptive Battery, enable it for longer-term background management.
- After a session, open the per-app battery panel to see whether the game or another app consumed the most power.
Battery Saver can limit background work and may delay some updates or notifications. Game Mode, where available, is a performance-versus-battery choice; select its battery-saving preference rather than a maximum-performance mode when heat and endurance are priorities.
Mobile-data controls
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Data Saver and enable Data Saver.
- Allow unrestricted data only for services that genuinely need background access.
- Check the game’s per-app data panel after a known-length session. Reset the phone’s usage statistics at the start of a measurement period if your Android version provides that option.
Data Saver mainly restricts background mobile-data use. It does not prevent the game from using data while you are actively playing, so Wi‑Fi remains the dependable choice for patches and long sessions.
Display controls
Lower brightness in Settings > Display. On a high-refresh-rate phone, choose 60 Hz or the refresh rate that matches the game’s cap. If the game is set to 30 FPS, 60 Hz is normally sufficient; selecting 90 or 120 Hz cannot make the game render more frames than its cap.

Low Power Mode
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Turn on Low Power Mode before a long session or when the battery is already low.
Apple documents that Low Power Mode reduces brightness, limits ProMotion displays to up to 60 Hz, disables Background App Refresh and automatic downloads, and reduces some visual effects. These changes can extend endurance but may delay background activity until the mode is turned off.
Cellular data per app
- Open Settings > Cellular (called Mobile Service in some regions).
- Scroll to the game and switch its cellular-data permission off when you want Wi‑Fi only.
- Review the game’s usage statistics. Reset statistics at the beginning of a measurement period if you need a clean comparison.
With cellular access disabled, the game will not download updates or connect while you are away from Wi‑Fi. Re-enable it deliberately when you need mobile play.
Brightness and Wi‑Fi
Use Auto-Brightness or lower brightness manually in Settings > Display & Brightness. Apple states that a Wi‑Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network, so join a reliable Wi‑Fi network for play and downloads.

Download initial files and patches on Wi‑Fi
Many gacha games download a large package after installation and continue adding event assets. Square Enix states that an internet connection is required on Android to launch and download initial data for its applicable titles. Start the game’s first launch and every major patch on a stable Wi‑Fi connection.
Use the official update path
Use the platform store or the game’s official launcher/update tool. HoYoverse recommends the official launcher or platform update tool for updates to Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. Avoid repeatedly deleting and reinstalling a game over cellular data; that can trigger the entire initial download again.
Check optional assets
Voice packs, high-resolution assets, and event downloads can be offered separately. Install only the language packs and quality levels you need, and postpone optional downloads until Wi‑Fi is available. There is no authoritative universal megabytes-per-hour figure for all gacha games, so use your phone’s per-app counter rather than a generic online estimate.
Restrict the game when you are not playing
Android Data Saver and iOS per-app cellular controls reduce background access. Also disable automatic downloads where your platform allows it if you need every update to wait for Wi‑Fi. Remember that restricting background activity can delay notifications, stamina reminders, or event alerts.
What to do when the phone overheats
- Lower the frame-rate cap from 60 to 30 FPS.
- Set shadows, special effects, reflections, and volumetric effects to Low or Off.
- Reduce render resolution or enable the game’s dynamic-resolution option.
- Dim the display and remove the phone from direct sun.
- Remove thick insulation around the phone and do not charge it under a pillow, blanket, or case that traps heat.
- Stop playing for several minutes if the phone remains uncomfortably hot, then resume at the lower profile.
Do not expect a fixed battery-life gain from a cooling accessory or any single setting. Ambient temperature, charging, signal quality, case design, and the game’s engine all affect the result. Persistent heat, swelling, shutdowns, or a battery warning is a hardware-safety issue; stop using the device and follow the manufacturer’s support guidance.

How to measure whether a change helped
Measure one profile at a time instead of changing every option and guessing. A simple repeatable test is:
- Charge to the same starting percentage, such as 80%.
- Reset Android or iOS per-app battery and data statistics, or record the starting values.
- Use the same game area and activity for 30 minutes. Keep brightness, network, case, and room conditions as similar as possible.
- Record battery percentage, data used, average frame rate if the game shows it, and whether the phone felt warm.
- Repeat with one change, such as 60 FPS to 30 FPS, while keeping everything else constant.
This produces a device-specific comparison. It also reveals whether another app, a weak cellular signal, or a background download—not the game’s rendering—was the main consumer.
Common problems and fixes
The game still drains quickly at Low settings
Check frame rate, display refresh rate, brightness, and network signal. Low graphics cannot offset a 120-Hz display at high brightness with poor cellular reception. Cap the game at 30 FPS, set the display to 60 Hz, join Wi‑Fi, and inspect the per-app battery panel.
30 FPS feels too sluggish
Use 45 FPS if the game and phone support it, or return to 60 FPS only while the device remains cool. Keep shadows and post-processing reduced; frame rate is not the only way to improve responsiveness.
Updates consume mobile data despite Data Saver
Data Saver limits background access but does not block downloads initiated while you are using the game. Disable cellular data for the game, or use the platform’s per-app cellular switch, before opening the launcher away from Wi‑Fi.
Notifications arrive late
Battery Saver, Low Power Mode, Data Saver, and per-app restrictions can delay background work. Allow the game or its notification service the required background access, or turn the saver mode off when timely alerts matter more than endurance.
The phone is hot while charging
Charging adds another heat source. Avoid demanding play while charging under insulation, lower the graphics and frame-rate profile, and pause if the device remains uncomfortably hot.
Quick Recap
Key takeaways
- Lower graphics quality, shadows, and special effects first; these are the controls specifically identified by HoYoverse for performance problems.
- Use 30 FPS and match the display refresh rate to that target when battery life matters.
- Dim the screen and prefer Wi‑Fi; Apple says Wi‑Fi uses less power than cellular data.
- Use Android Battery Saver/Data Saver or iOS Low Power Mode with the understanding that background work and notifications may be delayed.
- Perform initial downloads, patches, voice-pack installs, and event-asset downloads on Wi‑Fi.
- Heat reduces efficiency and can trigger CPU/GPU throttling, so reduce settings and take a break when the phone stays hot.
