South Park: The Stick of Truth is the best South Park game for most players: it makes the town, characters, and jokes part of a full role-playing adventure. The Fractured But Whole is a close second, with more tactical battles, while Snow Day! is the pick for online co-op rather than a solo story RPG.
This ranking weighs South Park’s voice and story, combat, exploration, and suitability for solo or co-op play. It covers the three console games identified as such by the official South Park games catalog; Phone Destroyer is listed separately there as a mobile app.
1. South Park: The Stick of Truth
South Park: The Stick of Truth ranks first because it brings the series’ setting and characters together with the most straightforward story-RPG format of the three. It is the best choice if you want to explore South Park and play through an adventure built around its familiar residents, rather than organize a multiplayer session.
Ubisoft classifies it as an action/adventure RPG and lists its release date as March 3, 2014. Its stated platforms are PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Check the product listing for the relevant platform and edition before buying.

It edges out the sequel in this ranking on the strength of its fit as an interactive South Park episode and its approachable RPG framing. That is a judgment about the overall package, not a claim that its combat is more intricate.
2. South Park: The Fractured But Whole
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is the better pick if tactical combat is your priority. Ubisoft describes it as the sequel to The Stick of Truth; the games share a role-playing lineage, so playing them in release order is the natural way to follow that connection.
Rank #2
- AUTHENTIC SOUTH PARK – From the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, comes the sequel to South Park: The Stick of Truth.
- AN OUTRAGEOUS RPG ADVENTURE – Manipulate time and space on the battlefield and develop and refine your powers as you progress.
- A HERO’S ORIGIN REVEALED – Create your costume, craft your origin story and build out your unique superpowers as you progress.
- COON AND FRIENDS, ASSEMBLE – Recruit up to 12 heroes, including Mysterion, The Human Kite, and the infamous Coon himself.
- EXPLORE SOUTH PARK AT NIGHT – Save the town when the sun sets and South Park's seedy underbelly comes alive.
What makes its combat different
TIME’s October 16, 2017 review describes battles that use turn-based combat on an isometric grid, giving encounters a more positional, tactical character. TIME rated the game 4 out of 5. Metacritic’s page showed a critic score of 79 based on 74 critic reviews when checked in 2026, labeled “Generally Favorable”; that platform-aggregated score can change over time.
The sequel comes second because its tactical identity is a strong alternative, while the original has the edge as the first recommendation for readers seeking the town, story, and series voice in one RPG. Choose this one first if grid-based battles matter more to you than playing the RPGs in sequence.
Rank #3
- Authentic south park: written and voiced by trey parker and Matt stone.
- An epic quest: earn your place alongside Stand, Kyle, cartman, and Kenny.
- Friends with benefits: recruit classic south park characters to your cause.
- Intense combat: arm yourself with magical weapons and mystical armor.
- Custom south park: with, like, a billion character and item combinations.
3. South Park: Snow Day!
South Park: Snow Day! is the multiplayer-action option, not a direct continuation of the first two games’ RPG format. South Park Studios announced its release for March 26, 2024, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. The PlayStation Store listing says it supports up to four online players and requires PS Plus for online play.
Its place here reflects the different experience it offers, not a like-for-like contest with the story RPGs. Metacritic’s review page surfaces mixed critical reactions, including individual criticism of the multiplayer emphasis for solo players; those excerpts are reviewers’ judgments, not a single consensus rating. If you want an online session with friends, its co-op focus may be the point. If you mainly play alone, the two RPGs above are the safer recommendations.

Which South Park game should you play first?
- For the strongest all-around South Park RPG: Start with The Stick of Truth.
- For turn-based, grid-positioning combat: Choose The Fractured But Whole, ideally after the first game.
- For online play with friends: Consider Snow Day!, checking the requirements for your platform before buying.
What about South Park: Phone Destroyer?
Phone Destroyer is not included in this console-game ranking because the official South Park catalog labels it a mobile app, while it labels the three ranked titles as console games. It belongs in a separate comparison of the franchise’s mobile games.

Platform compatibility can matter beyond choosing the right console or PC version. Ubisoft’s DLC notices on its Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole product pages state that its store or Ubisoft Connect DLC works only with base games bought on those platforms—not with base games from other retailers or resale platforms. If you plan to add DLC, check that the base game and add-on are compatible before purchase.
