Choose Civilization if you want the safest first run. Its defense, stamina, load capacity, damage reduction, and healing-focused Mimicry make early melee combat more forgiving while you learn Soulmask’s survival systems. Pick Conquest instead for stealth and attacks from behind, or Rich for bows, hunting, and creature damage. The choice shapes your early bonuses, not your permanent class: all three starting masks have similar base statistics, and later masks open additional roles.
What the starting-mask choice actually changes
Soulmask’s mask is more than a cosmetic item. It is the progression spine for your character: it carries passive bonuses and an active Mimicry ability, gains levels from Awareness experience, and eventually lets you possess a tribesman directly. After the tutorial mask, you select Civilization, Conquest, or Rich. Your selection is the mask you begin developing first, so its bonuses affect the first hours of gathering, exploration, combat, and tribe building.

This is not a locked class selection. The three starting masks have close base statistics, none prevents you from learning another combat style, and later masks provide more specialized roles. Treat the decision as an early-game comfort and playstyle choice rather than a permanent build commitment.

Civilization: the most forgiving first mask
Civilization is the default recommendation for a new player who has not yet settled on a specialized style. Its bonuses reduce the cost of mistakes: you can take more punishment, carry more supplies, recover morale faster, and use an active ability that restores health over time. Those advantages matter while you are learning enemy timing, stamina management, crafting, and the relationship between exploration and shelter.
Reported Civilization effects
- Mask-upgrade speed is 50% faster after repair.
- Head damage taken is reduced by 10%.
- Morale recovery while sleeping is 50% faster.
- Mimicry provides a healing-over-time effect.
- Body damage taken is reduced by 5%.
- Defense increases by 10.
- Maximum stamina increases by 5.
- Maximum load increases by 10.
Why those bonuses help beginners
Damage reduction is useful before you recognize attack tells or know which encounters to avoid. The additional stamina gives you a little more room for dodges, attacks, climbing, and emergency retreats, while the extra load lets you stay out longer before returning to storage. Faster morale recovery during sleep shortens the recovery loop after a difficult expedition. Healing-over-time Mimicry is especially valuable when a fight ends with you alive but hurt and medical supplies are limited.
Civilization also supports a straightforward learning loop: wear durable equipment, fight at close range, retreat when stamina is low, sleep to recover, and repeat. It does not require you to consistently reach an enemy’s back or maintain bow distance. That makes it the least demanding choice when you are still learning the map and the game’s survival routines.

If you already know you want to play from stealth, the defensive bonuses may feel passive compared with Conquest’s positioning tools. If your priority is hunting animals with a bow, Rich improves the specific actions you will perform most often. Civilization is forgiving, not universally strongest; its value is highest when surviving and learning are your immediate goals.
Conquest: stealth, rear attacks, and humanoid combat
Conquest is the rogue or thief-style starting mask. Its bonuses reward concealment, quiet movement, and attacking from behind rather than trading blows face-to-face. It is a strong thematic fit for players who scout camps, isolate human enemies, and prefer a positional advantage before committing to a fight.

Reported Conquest effects
- Mask-upgrade speed is 50% faster after repair.
- Fall damage is reduced by 10%.
- Awareness experience from humanoid kills increases by 5%.
- Attacks from behind deal 10% more damage.
- Concealment increases by 10%.
- Walking noise is reduced by 10%.
- Mimicry gives targeted critical strikes a 20% chance to reduce resilience.
How to play around Conquest
Conquest works best when you plan the approach instead of charging directly. Use terrain and cover to observe a camp, identify a target, and begin from an angle that lets you reach the enemy’s back. The concealment and walking-noise bonuses help you close the distance, while the rear-attack bonus rewards the opening strike. The resilience effect on targeted critical strikes can make a durable humanoid easier to pressure, provided you can trigger the required critical hit.
The 5% Awareness bonus applies to humanoid kills, so the mask naturally develops faster when your activities match its intended target type. Reduced fall damage is a practical exploration benefit when crossing cliffs, ruins, or uneven terrain, but it does not replace careful route planning.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWho should choose Conquest
- Players who enjoy stealth, scouting, and ambushes.
- Anyone expecting frequent fights against human enemies.
- Tribe Mode PvP players who value concealment and positional damage.
- Experienced action-game players comfortable managing attack angles.
Conquest is less forgiving when a stealth attempt fails and several enemies surround you. It offers fewer direct defensive safeguards than Civilization, so beginners should be prepared to disengage rather than stand in a prolonged exchange.
Rich: the bow-and-hunting option
Rich is the ranger-style mask. It favors ranged play, animal hunting, and efficient use of arrows. Choose it when you would rather maintain distance than learn melee combos immediately, or when gathering food and materials from creatures will be a major part of your early routine.
Reported Rich effects
- The mask provides information about the distance to a target.
- Stamina costs in work and combat are 5% lower.
- Awareness experience from non-humanoid kills increases by 5%.
- Arrows deal 30% more damage to creatures.
- Arrow precision improves by 10%.
- Mimicry adds a critical-hit and weak-spot benefit; the exact effect should be read from the current node description in your game.
Why Rich changes the early-game routine
Rich rewards preparation and spacing. Target-distance information helps you judge whether a shot is practical, while improved precision makes misses less punishing. The 30% creature-damage increase is specifically useful for hunting animals and other non-humanoid targets; it should not be read as a universal damage increase against every enemy. Lower stamina costs apply to work and combat, giving you more endurance for repeated tasks and movement around a hunt.

Because the Awareness bonus is tied to non-humanoid kills, Rich progresses naturally when you hunt rather than clear human camps. Its Mimicry enhancement also points toward deliberate shots at critical areas and weak spots. That play pattern can keep you safer, but it demands ammunition, clear lines of sight, and enough room to maintain distance.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Who should choose Rich
- Players who want bows to be their main early weapon.
- Hunters gathering creature materials, food, or experience.
- Anyone who prefers avoiding melee-combo learning at the start.
- Explorers who are comfortable creating space before every engagement.
Rich is less convenient when most of your fights are against humanoids at close range. Its creature-focused damage and Awareness gain do not directly improve that matchup, and a bow user who lets enemies close loses much of the mask’s intended advantage.
Use this decision rule before you select
- Choose Civilization if your priority is surviving mistakes, fighting in melee, playing alone, or building a durable character.
- Choose Conquest if you want stealth, attacks from behind, concealment, quieter movement, or frequent humanoid combat.
- Choose Rich if you plan to use a bow, hunt creatures, improve arrow precision, and stay at range.
If two descriptions appeal to you, decide by the enemies you expect to fight most often. Human camps point toward Conquest; animals and other creatures point toward Rich; mixed encounters while learning point toward Civilization. You do not need to predict your entire playthrough. The goal is to make the first mask’s bonuses useful during the activities you will actually repeat.
How to make the selection in a new game
- Complete the tutorial until the game presents the three starting masks.
- Read each mask’s current node and Mimicry description rather than relying only on a remembered tier list. Names and percentage values can change with patches.
- Match the mask to your preferred distance and target type: melee durability, stealth against humanoids, or ranged creature hunting.
- Confirm the selection and begin using that mask consistently while you learn the opening area.
- Test the active Mimicry ability after you have enough Mask Energy to use it safely. Note its duration, trigger condition, and resource cost before building your combat routine around it.
The selection does not permanently lock your character into one class. It determines which mask starts gaining experience and which passive package supports your first stretch of progression.
If you would rather learn the masks on a world of your own or with friends, you can rent a Soulmask server at Godlike.Host, which includes free DDoS protection, up to three free backups a day with restore, and a game panel for managing the server; see the current plans.

Mask progression, experience, and switching
Mask experience is separate
Mask experience is not a shared pool. The mask you wear earns the Awareness that advances it, so repeatedly swapping between masks early can slow the development of each one. If you want Civilization’s survivability while learning, keep it equipped long enough to unlock its useful nodes instead of changing masks after every encounter.
Plan around Mask Energy
Mask Energy powers active abilities. Sunstones refill it, so Mimicry is a resource decision rather than an ability you can assume is always available. Before entering a difficult camp or boss-like encounter, check your energy and carry or locate the Sunstones needed for a refill. Save the ability for the situation where its healing, resilience reduction, or weak-spot benefit can change the result; spending energy on every minor fight can leave you without it when a serious encounter begins.
Changing your mind later
Because the starting masks do not exclude later options, a poor first choice is not a ruined save. You can pursue another mask when the game makes it available and build a different role. The trade-off is development time: switching means the new mask must earn its own experience and may not have the same unlocked nodes as the one you have been using.

Picking by the name alone
The names suggest broad themes, but the useful distinction is mechanical. Civilization supplies direct durability, Conquest rewards positioning, and Rich improves bows and creature hunting. Read the effects and choose the loop you will repeat, not the label that sounds most powerful.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Assuming a percentage applies everywhere
Several bonuses have narrow conditions. Conquest’s Awareness increase is for humanoid kills, Rich’s is for non-humanoids, and Rich’s 30% arrow bonus is against creatures. Rear-attack damage requires an attack from behind. Treating any of these as universal will produce disappointing results and an inaccurate comparison.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Ignoring the active-ability resource
Mimicry consumes Mask Energy, and Sunstones refill that resource. If the ability fails to activate, check your energy before changing equipment or assuming the mask is bugged. Carry a refill plan for expeditions and use the ability when its trigger condition is realistic.
Changing masks after every fight
Early swapping divides your progression because experience belongs to the equipped mask. Pick the mask that fits your current routine, level it through a meaningful stretch of play, and switch only when you have a clear reason to develop a different role.
Building around an outdated node value
Perk values can change in updates. If your in-game node description differs from a value listed here, use the current description as the authority for your version. The playstyle categories remain useful, but an exact percentage should always be treated as version-specific.
Which mask is best for specific players?
| Your situation | Recommended mask | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| First survival game or unfamiliar melee timing | Civilization | Damage reduction, defense, stamina, load, and healing reduce the cost of mistakes. |
| Solo character learning the world | Civilization | Its bonuses help you recover and carry supplies without requiring a specialized setup. |
| Stealth-focused camp clearing | Conquest | Concealment, lower walking noise, and rear-attack damage reward a planned approach. |
| Tribe Mode PvP or mostly human enemies | Conquest | Humanoid Awareness experience and positioning tools match those encounters. |
| Bow-first character | Rich | Arrow precision, lower stamina costs, and ranged-focused Mimicry support the weapon. |
| Creature hunting and material gathering | Rich | Creature arrow damage and non-humanoid Awareness experience accelerate that loop. |
| Unsure and likely to fight everything | Civilization | Its general survivability is useful across mixed early encounters. |
Bottom line for a first playthrough
Civilization is the safest starting recommendation because it makes the learning phase more forgiving without closing off later choices. Select Conquest when stealth and humanoid combat are already your plan, and select Rich when bow-based creature hunting is the reason you are starting Soulmask. Whichever mask you choose, keep it equipped long enough to earn its own experience, monitor Mask Energy and Sunstones, and verify the current in-game node values after patches.
