Yes—Big Fish Games says Windows 10 is supported. That does not guarantee that every individual Big Fish title will run, especially older games that depend on legacy graphics behavior, display settings, runtimes, installers, or activation systems.
Start by identifying what is failing: the Big Fish Games app/Game Manager, downloading, installation, activation, or one particular game. Then work through the least-invasive fixes: restart and update Windows, test another title, run the game as administrator, try compatibility mode, correct display scaling, update or roll back graphics drivers, repair legacy runtimes, and only then consider reinstalling the app.
If Big Fish games remain incompatible, Outbyte PC Repair can scan Windows components and settings for additional application issues.

There is also an important date distinction: Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Installed software can continue to run, but Windows 10 no longer receives normal free security updates or technical support from Microsoft. See Big Fish’s Windows 10 guidance and Microsoft’s Windows support information.
First, identify which part is failing
“Big Fish Games does not work” can describe several different problems. Separating them prevents you from changing graphics settings when the real problem is the Game Manager, or reinstalling Windows when only one old title is affected.

| The Big Fish Games app will not open | Game Manager or app installation | Update or reinstall the official app |
| A game will not download | Browser prompts, permissions, network, or security software | Retry from Purchase History and check prompts, space, and permissions |
| The game installs but will not launch | Permissions, compatibility, drivers, or runtimes | Run the executable as administrator, then test compatibility mode |
| The game shows a black or blank screen | Scaling, resolution, graphics driver, or legacy DirectX | Set display scaling to 100% and test a supported resolution |
| Only one old game fails | Title-specific legacy limitation | Test another title and check that game’s support page |
| A security-key or activation message appears | Account or copy-protection activation | Record the exact message and contact Big Fish support |
Quick fixes to try first
- Check what is affected. Try another Big Fish game if one is available. Note whether the issue affects one title, every title, downloading, or the app itself.
- Install Windows updates. Open
Start → Settings → Windows Updateand select Check for updates. Menu names can vary slightly between Windows 10 builds. - Restart the computer. Restart after updates and test the game again.
- Check free disk space. Downloads and installations may need temporary space in addition to the final size of the game.
- Write down the exact error. Preserve error numbers, wording, and when the problem occurs before making further changes.
If the issue began after a Windows upgrade, the Big Fish Games app may need to be updated or reinstalled even if the game files are still present.
Fix a game that will not launch
Run the game as administrator
Permissions or security restrictions can prevent an older game from writing to its installation or save-data locations. Big Fish commonly installs PC games in a path similar to:
C:Program Files (x86)[Game Name]
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Locate the game’s
.exefile. It may not have exactly the same name as the game. - Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator.
- Test the game.
If this works, it points to a permissions or security restriction—not necessarily an incompatibility between the title and Windows 10. For additional launch steps, see Big Fish’s PC game launch guide.
Test Windows Compatibility Mode
Older applications can stop working after Windows changes because of differences in architecture, security features, or system requirements. Microsoft describes this in its guide to making older programs compatible.
- Open the game’s installation folder.
- Right-click the game’s
.exefile and choose Properties. - Open the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- As a starting test, choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3) for games released before 2010.
- For games released after 2010, test Windows 7 first.
- Select Apply, then OK, and launch the game.
These release-date suggestions come from Big Fish; they are tests, not universal rules. Compatibility mode can fix one problem while creating another, such as incorrect input or display behavior. Change one setting at a time. To undo the test, return to the same Compatibility tab, clear Run this program in compatibility mode for, select Apply, and test again.
If manual settings do not help, use Microsoft’s compatibility troubleshooting process from the same support guide.

Fix crashing, freezing, or a blank screen
Set display scaling to 100%
High-DPI scaling such as 125% or 150% can make older games open with clipped controls, inaccessible buttons, incorrect sizing, or a blank-looking window. Big Fish recommends testing 100% scaling:
- Open
Start → Settings → System → Display. - Find the display scaling control, labelled something like Change the size of text, apps, and other items.
- Set scaling to 100%.
- Apply the change, restart Windows, and test the game.
The exact control can vary by Windows 10 build and monitor configuration. Restore your normal scaling after testing if it is not the cause.
Test a lower or common resolution
For a game that freezes during startup or displays incorrectly, right-click its executable, choose Properties → Compatibility, enable the lower-resolution option, and test a resolution such as:
- 640×480
- 1280×720
- 1920×1080
This is a diagnostic experiment, not a recommendation to use a low-resolution desktop permanently. Windowed mode, when offered by the game, is another useful test.

If the problem began immediately after a driver update, rolling back the driver may be more useful than installing another new version. Microsoft’s graphics-driver troubleshooting guidance covers update and recovery options.
On a laptop with integrated and discrete graphics, the game may be starting on the less suitable GPU. If your system provides a graphics-preference control, test the other adapter. The available options depend on the laptop and driver.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Disable overlays temporarily
Overlays and capture tools can conflict with older games. Temporarily disable, if present:
- Discord overlay
- GeForce Experience overlay
- Xbox Game Bar
- MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner
- Steam overlay, if the title is being launched through Steam
- Other screen-recording or performance-monitoring tools
Test the game, then restore these tools. Do not leave security or monitoring software disabled as a permanent workaround.
Resolve missing DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++ messages
An older game may need a legacy component even when Windows 10 contains newer related technologies. Installing the newest DirectX version does not necessarily install every older side-by-side component.
For example, an error such as d3dx9_35.dll is missing can indicate that the game needs a legacy DirectX 9 component. Microsoft explains this distinction in its DirectX guidance.

Try these safe sources and repairs:
- Look inside the game’s installation folder for a
Redist,Prerequisites, or repair folder, and run the installer supplied with the official game package. - Repair or install the required Microsoft Visual C++ entries through Windows’ installed-app settings, following Big Fish’s Windows troubleshooting guide.
- Install available Windows updates to keep .NET components current.
- Use Microsoft or the game’s official installer for runtime components.
Do not download individual DLL files from random websites. A DLL site may provide an unsafe, incorrect, or incompatible file and does not properly install the component the game requires.
When downloading or installing fails
A download problem is different from a game-launch problem. Big Fish identifies browser prompts, insufficient permissions, security software, Game Manager configuration, incomplete downloads, and activation issues as possible causes.
- Open the game’s purchase history or download page again.
- Respond to every browser prompt and allow the Big Fish Games app to open when asked.
- Check the destination drive and confirm that enough free space is available.
- Run the installer with appropriate permissions.
- Temporarily test whether antivirus or firewall software is blocking the download or installer.
- If several titles fail, troubleshoot or reinstall the Big Fish Games app rather than repeatedly reinstalling each game.
Big Fish lists download and installation codes including 599, 703, 760, 771, 772, 801, 805, and 998. Do not assume a code’s meaning from its number. Include the exact code when contacting Big Fish support and follow the instructions on its download and installation support page.
Security software can produce false positives, but disabling it should be a brief diagnostic test only. Re-enable protection immediately. If an exclusion is genuinely needed, use a narrowly scoped exclusion according to the security vendor’s official instructions.
Repair the Big Fish Games app or Game Manager
If the app itself will not open, game-specific compatibility settings are unlikely to help. Download the latest Big Fish Games app from the official Big Fish site and reinstall it when the app displays an error, as described in Big Fish’s app troubleshooting guidance.
Big Fish has a dedicated workflow for errors 760, 900, and 257700: reinstall the app/Game Manager, then use a free trial or a title in Purchase History to test downloading and installation. See its instructions for errors 760, 900, and 257700.

Before uninstalling:
- Confirm that you know the email address and password for your Big Fish account.
- Confirm that you can access Purchase History.
- Back up saved games and other local data where possible.
- Keep any legitimate installers or product information you may need.
Reinstalling the app may be appropriate when every title fails to download, activate, or open through the Game Manager. It is less likely to help when the app works and only one game has a display or launch problem.
Did upgrading to Windows 10 delete Big Fish games?
Big Fish says a normal Windows 10 upgrade should not remove installed games or applications. A normal upgrade is different from a clean installation, however, and an installed game can remain on the drive while failing to launch afterward.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChanged permissions, graphics drivers, display scaling, missing components, or a Game Manager problem can all create that impression. You may need to reinstall or update the Big Fish Games app even when the game files remain. Back up saved games, installers, and account information before any major operating-system change.
When only one very old game still fails
If another Big Fish title runs normally and the app opens, the problem is more likely to be specific to the failing game than to Windows 10 as a whole. Possible limits include:
- a legacy 32-bit dependency or graphics behavior;
- an obsolete installer, including software that Windows can no longer run reliably;
- copy protection or activation that fails after an operating-system or hardware change;
- a defective or incomplete game installation;
- a dependency that is no longer distributed or supported.
Compatibility mode cannot guarantee a fix for unsupported copy protection, a 16-bit installer, a defective game build, or a missing legacy component. Nor does the game’s age alone prove that it is impossible to run.
Try, in order:
- Test another Big Fish title to confirm that the problem is isolated.
- Run the game executable directly from its installation folder.
- Try windowed mode, 100% scaling, or a common lower resolution.
- Test the Big Fish-recommended compatibility settings, changing one option at a time.
- Check the title’s official support page for a patch or title-specific workaround.
- Contact Big Fish support if the title still fails.
Activation and security-key problems
A request for a security key, or an activation failure after a hardware or operating-system change, is not automatically a graphics compatibility problem. Avoid repeatedly changing drivers or reinstalling Windows. Record the title, account details you can safely provide, exact message, and the change that preceded it, then use Big Fish support for account or activation assistance.
When to contact Big Fish support
Give support enough information to distinguish a Windows-wide issue from a title-specific one:
- the exact game title;
- your Windows 10 edition and build;
- the Big Fish Games app/Game Manager version, if available;
- the complete error message or number;
- whether other Big Fish games work;
- your graphics adapter;
- whether the problem is downloading, installing, launching, crashing, displaying, or activating;
- the troubleshooting steps already attempted;
- screenshots or logs if support requests them.
Final troubleshooting order
- Restart the computer.
- Install Windows updates.
- Test another Big Fish title.
- Run the affected game as administrator.
- Test Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7 compatibility mode as appropriate.
- Set display scaling to 100% and test a common resolution.
- Update or roll back the graphics driver.
- Disable overlays temporarily.
- Repair or install required DirectX, Visual C++, or .NET components from official sources.
- Test antivirus or firewall interference briefly, then restore protection.
- Reinstall the Big Fish Games app if the app or multiple titles fail.
- Contact Big Fish support with the title, system details, exact error, and steps already tried.
Big Fish’s Windows 10 support statement applies to the platform in general, not as a guarantee for every title. If the app and other games work after these checks, one very old game may require a title-specific workaround—or may depend on legacy software that modern Windows cannot reliably support.
