On June 9, 2024, Activision and Call of Duty revealed the first detailed look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: a 1990s spy-thriller campaign, 16 planned launch multiplayer maps built around new movement systems, and the return of round-based Zombies. Activision scheduled the game for October 25, 2024; it later confirmed that the worldwide launch took place that day.
What the first Black Ops 6 reveal announced
The reveal followed the Xbox Games Showcase and a dedicated Black Ops 6 Direct. Treyarch and Raven Software developed the game together, with Raven leading campaign development in partnership with Treyarch, and Treyarch leading multiplayer development in partnership with Raven. The details below describe the publisher’s June 2024 announcement and launch plans, not independently tested performance results.
Activision framed the game as a spy action thriller set in the early 1990s, against the end of the Cold War and the United States’ emergence as the sole superpower. Its fictional conspiracy involves a shadowy force within the U.S. government; characters who resist are branded traitors and forced to go rogue.
What is the Black Ops 6 campaign about?
The story follows Black Ops Cold War and centers on Frank Woods, who has been pulled from field work after an injury. Troy Marshall and CIA handler Jane Harrow are central to the setup. When an operation goes wrong, Woods and Marshall are suspended and form a team outside their usual channels. The reveal also named Felix Neumann and Sevati Dumas as recruits and confirmed the return of Russell Adler, whose loyalties were left uncertain.
