Trials Frontier reached Google Play in May 2014 as a free-to-play motorcycle game built around physics-driven obstacle courses—not the familiar format of racing laps around a circuit. Its challenge was to control a bike over hazards, manage balance and attempt stunts while progressing through tracks and unlocking content.
What made Trials Frontier different from a typical racing game?
Ubisoft describes the Trials franchise as “an innovative physics-based racing platformer,” with tracks built around pitfalls, traps and obstacles (Ubisoft’s Trials franchise page). That framing captures the distinction: the course itself is the challenge. Instead of concentrating on overtaking opponents around a conventional circuit, a player must control a motorcycle over uneven terrain and obstacles, using balance and throttle control to keep moving. Stunts and falls are part of that obstacle-course premise.
That comparison is about the games’ formats, not a measured claim that one demands more skill than another. In Trials Frontier, progression also involved unlocks: Ubisoft said players could unlock maps, tracks and bikes. The free-to-play model and those unlocks sat alongside the riding challenge rather than turning the game into a conventional lap racer.
When did Trials Frontier launch on Android?
The Android release had two distinct milestones. On May 13, 2014, Pocket Gamer reported a limited soft launch in Finland and India, ahead of a planned wider release. Ubisoft then announced on May 22, 2014, that the game was available on Google Play and the Amazon Appstore; the announcement was reproduced by Engadget. The May 22 announcement is the broader Android availability event behind the “hits Google Play” framing.

How much content did the game have?
The content count grew over time, so it should not be mistaken for the launch-day total. In an April 2015 anniversary announcement, Ubisoft said Trials Frontier had “over 80 tracks in 11 distinct worlds” (Ubisoft News, April 2015). That is a snapshot from the game’s first anniversary, not a current catalog figure.

AppBrain’s catalog currently marks Trials Frontier unavailable on Google Play and reports an April 27, 2023 removal date (AppBrain’s listing). This is a third-party catalog report, not an announcement from Ubisoft or Google, so it should not be treated as an official delisting notice.

Store availability is separate from whether an existing installation can still be played or which online features remain functional. Ubisoft’s legacy online-services article discusses older Ubisoft titles and service retirements generally, but does not establish a Trials Frontier-specific shutdown. The available evidence therefore does not settle the game’s present playability or the status of its online features.
