Citadelle des Morts, Black Ops 6’s next round-based Zombies map at the time of its reveal, launched on December 5, 2024. The medieval fortress in Avalon continued the story after Terminus and introduced four elemental Wonder Weapons alongside new equipment and a map built around shifting between open spaces and tight castle corridors.
What is Citadelle des Morts?
Citadelle des Morts is a round-based Zombies map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set inside and around an old medieval fortress in Avalon. Activision describes the castle as a landmark tied to the French Syndicate, where a crew led by Franco is based. The game’s official page identifies Black Ops 6 as including Round-Based Zombies and lists the platforms it supports: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The map follows the events of Terminus. Weaver, Maya, Carver, and Grey travel to Avalon with Peck, Raptor One, and Strauss in search of Gabriel Krafft and information about the Sentinel Artifact. Activision announced the map as part of Season 01 Reloaded and set its release for December 5, 2024: Season 01 Reloaded: Citadelle des Morts.
What did the reveal add to Zombies?
The reveal put four elemental Wonder Weapons at the center of the map’s arsenal. It also highlighted three additions to the Zombies toolkit, each serving a different role:

- Vulture Aid Perk-a-Cola: Increases the variety of loot dropped by enemies, including Essence Vials and small ammo drops. The additional drops are visible only to the player with Vulture Aid active.
- Light Mend Ammo Mod: A new ammunition modification featured in the Season 01 Reloaded announcement.
- Tesla Storm Field Upgrade: A new Field Upgrade featured in the announcement.
In a December 2, 2024 report, GameSpot attributed to Treyarch associate design director Kevin Drew the description of the four elemental swords and a map that pairs a large overall layout with claustrophobic spaces inside the castle. That description helps explain the intended contrast: the route may open up outdoors, but the fortress can funnel a team into close-quarters fights. GameSpot’s report on Citadelle des Morts.
How the map’s layout affects survival
Activision’s map guide describes open space near the starting area and increasingly narrow hallways as players push into the castle. Traps and obstacles can help break up a pursuing horde, but they do not replace movement: the guide advises keeping on the move and using the environment to evade enemies. Choose an opening route deliberately
The guide recommends deciding which door to buy first rather than treating the two paths out of the starting area as interchangeable. Each has useful pickups. The eastern route reaches the Dining Hall, which provides more room to maneuver and a second story; the western route has its own weapon buys. Your first door purchase therefore affects both the early resources you can reach and the space available when a horde closes in.
Use the Town Square’s early resources
The Town Square has an Ammo Cache, Crafting Table, GobbleGum Machine, and Pistol Wall Buy. Activision’s early-round advice is to reach the first Pack-a-Punch before finishing Round 10 where practical. That is a pacing recommendation, not a required objective. The guide also recommends considering a Decoy tactical in several major locations to redirect enemies while you reposition or work through an area.

Know when Der Wunderfizz appears
Der Wunderfizz is available immediately in Directed Mode. In Standard mode, it becomes available at Round 25, according to Activision’s guide. This difference matters when planning early perks: a Standard-mode run cannot rely on the machine being available at the start.

The Bastard Sword route is a clear example of how Citadelle des Morts combines exploration with combat. After revealing Pack-a-Punch, collect a puzzle piece dropped by a random enemy and bring it to a statue in the Entrance Hall. The southwestern statue begins the fire-imbued sword route. Complete the Caliburn fire steps
- Take the Bastard Sword to the dragon statue to begin the Caliburn sequence.
- Carry Aether fire from three braziers back to the dragon statue.
- While carrying the fire, account for damage over time. Melee kills restore some health, so fighting back can help you survive the return trip.
The sequence makes the route itself part of the challenge: players must find and transport the fire while managing the danger it creates.
When did Citadelle des Morts launch, and what were its launch rewards?
Citadelle des Morts launched with Season 01 Reloaded on December 5, 2024. Activision said the main quest would be active at launch and listed a Jackknife Operator Skin for Weaver, 5,000 XP, and a unique Calling Card among the rewards for completing it before Directed Mode arrived.
