The supplied title uses the older wording “Warzone 2.0.” The official 2026 announcements call the game simply Call of Duty: Warzone, so that is the name used here.
What is Black Ops Royale?
Black Ops Royale is a free-to-play Warzone battle royale inspired by the original Blackout. It is a new mode rather than a remake: players begin with a pistol and wingsuit, then scavenge for weapons and improve them as the match progresses. There are no loadouts, Buy Stations, in-game cash, or Gulag.

Where do matches take place, and how many players can join?
The launch map is Avalon, adapted from the large-scale Endgame map introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. It includes urban areas and interiors alongside open routes and long sightlines, with land, sea, and air vehicles for traversal.
Each match supports 100 players in 25 squads of four (Quads). Call of Duty’s patch notes list an expected match duration of 20–25 minutes; that is the stated expected range, not a guaranteed length for every match. Official Black Ops Royale patch notes.

How does Black Ops Royale gameplay work?
Scavenge and upgrade weapons
Instead of choosing a loadout, players find base weapon archetypes and improve them during the match with attachment kits and rarity upgrades. The patch notes say more than 40 archetype themes are expected, with more than 20 available as ground loot initially.
Move across Avalon
Wingsuits replace the traditional parachute, and wall jumping is enabled by default. Swimming, tidal flats, and vehicles across land, sea, and air add routes through the map.

Bring back eliminated teammates
There is no Gulag. Redeploy Tokens and capturable Redeploy Towers provide ways to bring eliminated teammates back. The patch notes specify a 30-second capture countdown for a tower.
Use equipment and take on map activities
Featured gear includes the Grappling Hook, Sensor Dart, Trauma Kit, killstreaks, tiered armor, and consumable perks. Optional activities include bounties, Strongboxes, Relays, and Guild defenses. Cradle Breaches create dangerous areas with zombie hordes and the possibility of high-tier loot.

Is Black Ops Royale currently available?
Official materials confirm later appearances after launch: the Season 04 announcement includes Black Ops Royale placement-challenge points, and an Activision support season summary describes the mode returning in a later limited-time playlist. Those announcements do not establish whether Black Ops Royale is playable on October 8, 2026, or give a confirmed removal date. Check Warzone’s live playlist or a newer official announcement for its availability now.

Why did Call of Duty bring the Blackout concept to Warzone?
In an Xbox Wire interview published March 13, 2026, Warzone Game Director Pete Actipis described the goal as bringing a new experience to Warzone rooted in Call of Duty’s first battle royale.
