Blizzard filed suit against Turtle WoW and associated defendants on August 29, 2025, in California federal court. The case ended on April 15, 2026, with stipulated judgments and permanent injunctions for named defendants—not a reported trial verdict resolving every allegation. Those orders prohibit specified activity involving private or emulated Blizzard game servers and modified or remastered clients, and restrict transfers intended to enable a Turtle WoW successor.

What happened in the Blizzard vs. Turtle WoW lawsuit?

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. filed the case in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on August 29, 2025. It is docketed as case 2:25-cv-08194. The docket reports that the action terminated on April 15, 2026, when the court entered stipulated judgments and permanent injunctions for named defendants, including AFKCraft Ltd. and Josiah Zimmer. The docket also lists a stipulated permanent injunction for Jesse Lautenbach. The court orders set out restrictions specific to the defendants they cover.

These were stipulated judgments, not the result of a contested trial. The AFKCraft order says the judgment and injunction were stipulated under a confidential settlement agreement. The public order does not disclose the agreement’s full terms, so no financial or other undisclosed settlement terms can be established from it.

What do the Turtle WoW injunctions prohibit?

The orders bar covered defendants—and certain people or entities acting in concert with them after notice—from specified conduct involving private or emulated Blizzard game servers, modified client software, and remastered clients. The Lautenbach injunction, for example, addresses remastered clients and successor-related transfers. Its terms include Turtle WoW and “Turtle WoW 2.0,” described in the order as an Unreal Engine remaster of the WoW client.

The orders also prohibit encouraging or inducing prohibited conduct and soliciting payments related to it. Their restrictions are tied to the covered defendants and the conduct specified in each order; they should not be read as a finding that every allegation in Blizzard’s complaint was proved.

Can Turtle WoW return under a different name?

The orders address more than a name change. They restrict transfers of specified Turtle WoW software, promotional materials, and social-media accounts when those transfers would enable a successor operation. A new name alone therefore does not answer whether a particular operation or transfer falls within an injunction: the relevant order’s wording, the people involved, and the conduct at issue matter. The text supports a restriction on enabling a successor, not a blanket prediction about every possible future project.

What remains unresolved by the public orders?

The docket’s termination entry records the case’s procedural status; it does not turn the complaint’s allegations into findings after trial. The public AFKCraft order confirms a confidential settlement agreement but does not reveal all of its terms. Nor do the orders establish identical terms for every defendant. For defendant-specific questions, the applicable judgment and injunction—not a generalized description of the case—control.

The Zimmer consent judgment entered April 15, 2026, says: “The Court shall retain jurisdiction of this action to entertain such further proceedings and to enter such further orders as may be necessary or appropriate to implement and enforce the provisions of this Judgment and Permanent Injunction.”
