Bookmark OS is not a hardware organizer or a browser replacement. Your data is accessed through the website, and the service provides browser capture tools so a page can be saved without manually copying its address.

How do I organize browser bookmarks in Bookmark OS?
Start with broad folders, then use tags and filters for views that cut across those folders. This avoids creating a deep maze of subfolders while still letting you retrieve a link by project, topic, format, or status.
1. Create folders around projects or areas of responsibility
Use a folder for a bounded activity such as “Game development,” “Travel 2026,” or “Research sources.” Keep the first level small enough to scan. Files, notes, and tasks can live alongside bookmarks in the same folder, so the folder can represent the whole project rather than just its URLs.
2. Add tags for cross-folder retrieval
Tags work as a second classification system. A single link can carry tags such as “tutorial,” “reference,” “buy later,” or “needs review” even when it sits in a project folder. Later, filter by tag instead of remembering which folder received the bookmark.
3. Filter by type and sort the results
Type filters narrow a view to links, notes, tasks, or files. Sorting then orders the remaining items so a large collection can be reviewed systematically. This is particularly useful after an import, when you may want to inspect links by title or status rather than by the order in which an old browser stored them.
4. Use visual icons deliberately
Screenshot icons and custom images are helpful for dashboards, design references, maps, and other pages whose identity is easier to recognize visually than by title. The free plan limits screenshot icons to 30 per month; Pro removes that limit.
5. Let folder suggestions speed up saving
Bookmark OS says its artificial-intelligence system learns the content of your folders and suggests destinations while you create a bookmark. Treat those suggestions as a shortcut, not an automatic filing policy: confirm the folder and apply any tags that matter to your own system.

How can I save links, tabs, and sessions?
There are several capture methods, so the best choice depends on your browser and whether you are saving one page or a working set.
- Chrome or Firefox extension: install the Bookmark OS extension to save bookmarks and tabs directly to the website. The Chrome Web Store listing identifies version 2.2, shows an update date of November 25, 2024, and reports 4.2/5 from 41 ratings and 5,000 users at the time of the 2026 listing.
- Bookmarklet: browsers without a supported extension can use the bookmarklet. Add it to the browser’s bookmarks bar, then activate it on a page you want to capture.
- Private email address: send a link to your private Bookmark OS address when you are away from the normal capture tools.
- Saved tab sessions: use the extension’s tab-saving capability to preserve a group of open pages for later. A session folder is useful for temporary research or a repeatable workflow because it keeps the set together instead of scattering the tabs across individual folders.
Use a normal bookmark for a durable reference, a session for a short-lived working set, and a task when the link requires an action or deadline.
Can Bookmark OS import Chrome bookmarks and clean up a large library?
Yes. The help documentation says Bookmark OS can import existing bookmarks from any service. During an import it can ping links, retry errors for two days, and tag links that remain unavailable. A duplicate resolver helps you decide what to keep when the same address appears multiple times.
- Export your current browser library. Create the browser’s standard HTML bookmark export so the original hierarchy remains available if you need to recover it.
- Open Bookmark OS and choose the import function. Select the exported HTML file or the supported service source.
- Review the import results. Check folders, titles, and tags before treating the migration as complete. Link checks may take time because failed addresses are retried for two days.
- Resolve duplicates. Use the duplicate resolver to compare repeated entries and retain the version with the better title, tags, or folder placement.
- Inspect unavailable links. Links that remain unreachable are tagged so you can replace, archive, or delete them instead of silently losing them.
Dead-link checks are a maintenance aid, not proof that a page is permanently gone. Websites can be temporarily offline, require a login, block automated requests, or move again after the check.

Bookmark OS exports bookmarks as an HTML file that can be used by Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. HTML export is the key portability feature: it gives you a browser-readable copy rather than locking your collection into one interface.
The FAQ says Pro can copy an exported HTML backup to Dropbox every Sunday. That is a recurring weekly backup, not continuous versioning. If you make major structural changes between backup runs, create a manual export as well and keep copies with dates in their filenames.

Before leaving another service, retain the original export until you have checked several representative folders, opened important links, and confirmed that notes, tags, and files were handled as expected. An HTML bookmark file carries browser bookmarks; it should not be assumed to contain every task, note, or uploaded file in your workspace.
What can I keep beside a bookmark?
Bookmark OS combines link storage with lightweight project management.

This combination is most valuable when your bookmark collection represents ongoing work. If you only need a handful of personal reading links, a browser’s built-in manager may be simpler.

The 2026 pricing page lists a free plan and a Pro plan. The page lists Pro at $60 per year and temporarily displays $36 per year; treat the lower figure as a promotional price that can change.

Choose free if your collection is mostly links, notes, and tasks and you can stay within 30 screenshot icons per month and 500 MB of files. Pro makes more sense for image-heavy visual boards, larger reference files, or users who want the documented Dropbox backup routine.
Does Bookmark OS work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Bookmark OS describes itself as a responsive website that works on a laptop, phone, or tablet. The FAQ says there is no native mobile app; mobile access uses the responsive site in your device’s browser.

That approach provides the same account and folders across devices, but it also means mobile behavior depends on the browser viewport and connection. For quick capture, the private email method or a mobile browser bookmarklet may be more convenient than arranging a large folder hierarchy on a small screen.
Is there a Bookmark OS Chrome extension?
Yes. The Chrome extension saves bookmarks and tabs to the Bookmark OS website and supports session and tab management. The listing’s version, rating, user count, and update date are snapshots that may change as the extension is updated, so check the current Chrome Web Store entry before installing.
Firefox also has an extension. Other browsers can use the bookmarklet, which gives them a capture path without claiming native extension support.

Check the domain before creating an account or following setup instructions. A guide for social-platform saves will not explain Bookmark OS’s HTML migration, file storage, or project folders.
What are the main limitations and failure points?
- Free storage can fill quickly: 500 MB and a 5 MB per-file ceiling favor text and links over large media collections.
- Screenshot icons are metered: 30 per month on free may be insufficient for a visual catalog.
- Import cleanup needs review: automated duplicate and availability checks cannot understand whether two pages serve different purposes or whether a temporary outage is permanent.
- Mobile is web-only: there is no native app listed, so offline app behavior should not be assumed.
- Backup timing matters: the Pro Dropbox routine runs weekly, leaving a gap after major changes unless you export manually.
- Prices and listing metrics change: verify the current pricing page and extension listing before relying on the figures above.
A practical maintenance routine is to review unavailable-link tags monthly, resolve duplicates after each large import, export an HTML copy before reorganizing top-level folders, and periodically remove files you no longer need.

Can I use Bookmark OS without installing a browser extension?
Yes. The responsive website works directly in a browser, and a bookmarklet can capture pages in browsers that do not have a Bookmark OS extension. You can also send links to your private Bookmark OS email address.
Will an HTML export include my Bookmark OS notes and uploaded files?
The documented export is an HTML bookmark file intended for Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. It should be treated as a bookmark backup; keep separate copies or in-service access for notes, tasks, and uploaded files.
How often does the Dropbox backup run?
