What is the current Borderlands 4 level cap?
HowToPlayHub’s leveling guide, last updated September 14, 2026 and marked verified for Patch 1.10, reports that Update 1.10 raised the cap from 60 to 70 when it released September 10, 2026. Treat 70 as a third-party guide’s report: the official patch note confirming that exact increase was not located. Read the guide.
The last cap figure confirmed in the official information cited here is older. Gearbox’s March 26, 2026 notes said the cap had increased by 10 levels, “to a max level of 60.” That is a dated historical cap, not the best available report of the current one. See Gearbox’s March 26 update notes.
How to level efficiently
During the campaign: follow the main route
The September 2026 guide recommends progressing through the campaign for early levels. Add side quests when they are nearby and can be completed without substantial backtracking; the point is to gain extra progress without turning every detour into a time sink. This is guide advice, not an independently measured XP ranking.

After the campaign: choose a route that suits your group

The guide also names Circle of Slaughter and the Hadron Abyss Takedown as additional XP sources. It distinguishes these from its preferred farming suggestions; use them if you want to play those activities, rather than assuming they are the fastest route. No reliable XP-per-hour figures or independently measured activity ranking are established here.
Keep combat time productive
- Use weapons close to your character’s level so enemies do not take unnecessarily long to defeat.
- Favor damage that clears groups quickly; less time spent on each encounter can make a route feel smoother, though no specific build or weapon is proven fastest here.
- The cited guide discusses XP-boosting Firmware, but this is a guide-sourced tip, not a verified estimate of how much faster it makes leveling.
How Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode fits into progression
UVHM is an endgame system. 2K’s roadmap describes a new UVHM level arriving alongside each Invincible Boss release, linking progression to post-launch boss content. Because that roadmap predates later releases, it does not confirm the exact number of UVHM levels available now. Read 2K’s roadmap.

UVHM also matters for rewards, not just difficulty. In its December 11, 2025 notes, Gearbox said the Bloomreaper Invincible boss introduced nine dedicated Legendary drops and that most of this loot would only drop if players defeated Bloomreaper quickly in UVHM. That is a specific condition for that boss’s loot, not proof that every UVHM reward works the same way. Read Gearbox’s December 11, 2025 notes.

What to know before chasing UVHM levels
- Expect UVHM progression to be connected to endgame challenges and Invincible Boss releases, based on 2K’s roadmap.
- Use boss-specific notes to check reward conditions; Bloomreaper’s quick-defeat requirement is an example, not a universal rule.
- Do not rely on a current rank-by-rank checklist or exact unlock challenge list from the sources cited here: those details are not established.
Gearbox’s March 26, 2026 notes also described shared progression for collectibles, activities, map progress, SDU tokens, Vault Powers, vehicle skins, and Hover Drives. This is useful if you are switching characters, but it is a dated statement of systems covered in that update—not confirmation that every progression element in later patches is shared.
