There are nine Vault Key Fragments in Borderlands 4: three each in the Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, and Terminus Range. Collect all three in a region to open its Primordial Vault and claim a reported glide pack upgrade. Capturing Order Silos helps reveal approximate fragment locations, but is not required to collect them.
How Vault Key Fragments and Order Silo hints work
Each of the three base-game regions has three Vault Key Fragments. Once you have all three from a region, travel to that region’s Arch and enter its Primordial Vault. Reclaiming an Order Silo reveals an approximate location for a fragment; it is a locating aid, not a universal unlock requirement. A silo lift may make some routes easier. The routes and reward details in this guide follow PC Gamer’s walkthrough, last updated September 24, 2025. Landmarks and loot tables are guide-reported rather than official map data, and may change with patches. The official support article confirms that Vault Fragments are collectibles, but does not provide these route directions.
Fadefields: three fragments and the Arch of Inceptus
Coastal Bonescape
In Stillshore, on the southwest side of Coastal Bonescape, look for an island near the water. The fragment sits on a crate at the base of a tower. PC Gamer notes that this area can be reached after leaving the prologue and helping Claptrap establish the Abandoned Post safehouse.

The Howl
Find the small cave northeast of The Launch Pad and southwest of Ardor’s Bounty. The fragment is on a pedestal inside.
Idolator’s Noose
Go to Rosemary’s Reserve, northeast of Idolator’s Noose, and locate the Propaganda Tower. Turn southeast and use the grapple to pull away a loose vent; the fragment is in the nook, on a Ripper’s corpse.
Vault, upgrade, and Guardian
With all three Fadefields fragments, head to the Arch of Inceptus on a cliff east of the region. Grapple up, clear the mangler nest, and follow the route uphill to the vault. PC Gamer reports that clearing it improves glide pack regeneration.
The vault’s Guardian is Primordial Guardian Inceptus. The guide-reported potential legendary drops are Lucky Clover (pistol), Husky Friend (shotgun), Ravenfire (heavy ordnance), Extra Medium (shield), Electric Avatar (Vex class mod), Rewarding Filantropo (Rafa class mod), Elementalist (Amon class mod), and Reactor (Harlowe class mod).

Carcadia Burn: three fragments and the Arch of Radix
Lopside
At the western edge of Lopside, just south of the Makeshift Chalet safehouse, grapple onto the roof of the One Pumper gas station. The fragment is between two tables.
Ruined Sumplands
Go to the water outside Hull’s Handbasket in northern Carcadia Burn, past the Judgement’s Lapse silo. Look for the fragment on a pedestal near the water and the unusual pillars.
Tonnage Peel
At the Wreck of the Last Great Hope on the western coast, enter the shipwreck tunnel. Find the ground hatch near a red light and grapple it open; the fragment is on the pedestal below.
Vault, upgrade, and Guardian
After collecting all three fragments, find the Arch of Radix on the sandy plain in the northwest corner of Grindstone of the Worthy, near The Lowrise safehouse and north of the Rustical Hurl silo. PC Gamer reports that this vault reduces the glide pack’s regeneration delay.

Primordial Guardian Radix has an armor health bar. The guide recommends corrosive damage, with cryo as a fallback; the Guardian’s attacks are primarily shock. Its reported potential legendary drops are Anarchy (shotgun), Bottled Lightning (SMG), Adrenaline Pump (repkit), Witch (Vex class mod), Grenazerker (Rafa class mod), Forge Master (Amon class mod), and Scientist (Harlowe class mod).

Terminus Range: three fragments and the Arch of Origo
Vestal Garrison
Enter the garrison, climb the stairs, and pass through the large door. Turn left through another door, then go up the short staircase into the command room. The fragment is on a crate beneath the large monitor.
The Low Leys
Near The Pit point of interest—north of the Eureka Stane crawler activity and east of the Carcadia Burn entrance—look for houses on stilts and a curved, pink-leaved tree against the cliff. Climb the rocks behind the tree and grapple to the ledge; the fragment is on a pedestal.
Cuspid Climb
PC Gamer recommends approaching from The Reliquary silo. Take the balloon lift to the northern outcrop, enter the cave near the group of trees, and climb the rocks to the pedestal.
Vault, upgrade, and Guardian
The Arch of Origo is on the border between The Low Leys and Cuspid Climb. From the Heritage Opus safehouse, head north, cross the bridge into The Low Leys, and jump across the ravine to the cave behind the shrine. The guide reports a 50% reduction in glide pack cost for completing this vault.
The vault is guarded by Primordial Guardian Origo. It alternates between ice and fire damage, has shield health, and is vulnerable to shock or radiation. Crystals on its back indicate its current element. Reported potential legendary drops are Kaoson (SMG), Bottled Lightning (SMG), Watts 4 Dinner (shield), Kindred Spirits (Vex class mod), Buster (Rafa class mod), Shatterweight (Amon class mod), and Driver (Harlowe class mod).

The guide describes the first two improvements without a numerical value and does not rank the three upgrades. Which is most useful depends on how you use the glide pack; the reported 50% figure applies specifically to Origo’s cost reduction.
Shared Vault Fragment progress between characters
According to Borderlands Support, Shared Character Progression covers collectibles, activities, SDU points, and map progress, and explicitly includes Vault Fragments. Starting with update 1.7 on May 28, 2026, players can disable Shared Progression on each new save file. Saves made before that update cannot retroactively opt out, so fragment behavior depends on the setting chosen for the save.
Vault Fragments are not Vault Cards
Vault Key Fragments are the regional collectibles used to open the three Primordial Vaults. Vault Cards are a separate progression feature; official update notes describe them as using daily and weekly challenges to earn loot, XP, and cosmetics. The two systems are not interchangeable.
