In Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, a Bounty is the escalating DMZ Cash value attached to your Operator’s Dog Tag after you kill another human Operator. After four Operator kills across deployments, you become Wanted: nearby players receive proximity alerts, hunters can buy tracking intel, and your Dog Tag is worth more when extracted. The system turns successful PvP into a choice between a larger payout and steadily increasing exposure.
What is the difference between a Bounty and Wanted status?
Bounty is the value and notoriety created by your Operator kills. Wanted is the higher-exposure state reached after the documented four-kill threshold. Both are recorded on your Dog Tag and in your Loadout, but Wanted status adds automatic alerts and stronger tracking pressure.

Activision’s official FOB guide summarizes the trigger this way: “When an Operator kills another player, they immediately earn a Bounty, listed on their own Dog Tag, visible within your Loadout.”
How does a Bounty start and increase?
Every human-Operator kill starts or increases the Bounty attached to your Dog Tag. The game tracks the activity across multiple deployments rather than treating each deployment as an isolated tally.

- Kill another Operator. The Bounty is applied immediately, and the updated status appears in your Loadout.
- Continue taking Operator kills. The Bounty level rises as your kill record grows. The official guide says the system also considers circumstances such as who fired first and whether you were outnumbered.
- Reach four kills across deployments. At that point, your Operator becomes Wanted.
The guide describes multiple Wanted states as takedowns increase, so four kills is the entry threshold, not a single maximum tier. The exact cash amounts, intel costs and scaling values can change with live updates; Activision’s guide does not establish one permanent payout table.
When do nearby players get alerted?
Proximity alerts begin when a Wanted Operator comes within range of other Operators. This is an automatic warning rather than an optional broadcast, so entering a populated area can reveal your presence even if nobody has purchased a contract.

The station lists available Wanted targets, and a hunter can spend DMZ Cash held in the FOB Bank to buy more precise information. The resulting intel displays a general-area circle on the Tac Map. That circle updates more frequently and contracts as the target’s Wanted level rises; at the highest level, the target’s general vicinity may be visible to every Operator in Hajin.

How does a hunter collect the Bounty?
A hunter does not receive the reward for a kill alone. The target must be killed and the target’s Dog Tag must be carried out through successful exfiltration.
- Open a Bounty Station. Review the Wanted Operators listed for the current deployment.
- Buy intel if needed. Spend DMZ Cash from the FOB Bank to narrow the target’s general area on the Tac Map.
- Locate and kill the target. The reward is tied to the target’s Bounty level.
- Take the target’s Dog Tag and exfil. The payout is added to your Bank only after you leave successfully with the tag.
If the hunter dies, loses the Dog Tag or fails to extract, the documented kill-and-exfil condition has not been completed and the Bounty is not secured.

- Pay it at a Bounty Station. Use DMZ Cash to settle the Bounty before another player claims the tag.
- Let another player take and extract the Dog Tag. You must then exfil without that Dog Tag.
- Die and fail to exfil. Death removes the Bounty and Wanted status, although the failed deployment can also cost the gear and progress you were carrying.
These options create different risks. Paying preserves the run but consumes cash; surrendering the tag ends the threat at the cost of the reward; and dying clears the status while exposing the rest of your loadout to normal DMZ loss.
What should you do if you become Wanted?
Treat Wanted status as an extraction and movement problem, not as a reason to stand still and defend one building.
- Relocate before looting. Proximity alerts and purchased circles make predictable positions easier to surround.
- Avoid repeating the same route. Rotate between cover and extraction options instead of following the most obvious road or exfil approach.
- Reserve cash and time. Keeping enough DMZ Cash to pay at a Bounty Station gives you a non-combat escape route if the circle tightens.
- Plan around exfil. A hunter’s reward requires your Dog Tag, so expected extraction routes are likely to become the most contested part of the run.
These are practical responses to the documented alerts, shrinking intel circle, escalating reward and extraction requirement; they are not additional rules stated by Activision.

Is taking another fight worth the risk?
There is no universal answer because the system deliberately trades immediate PvP profit for greater future danger. Before engaging, weigh three costs against the expected Bounty increase:

- Visibility: another kill can move you toward a higher Wanted state and stronger Tac-Map exposure.
- Hunter resources: your rising value gives pursuers a reason to spend DMZ Cash on better intel.
- Deployment risk: if the run fails, you can lose recovered gear and progress that successful extraction would have carried into future deployments.
DMZ’s core loop is the same trade-off: push deeper for more rewards or extract with what you have. A Bounty makes that decision explicit after every successful Operator fight.

The Forward Operating Base (FOB) contains a Bounty Leaderboard Station. It highlights the highest-notoriety targets, including the Most Wanted Operators, and lets players see the current hunt from the base before entering a deployment.

Leaderboard entries are separate from the immediate Bounty Station intel used inside a deployment: the former is a persistent FOB ranking, while the latter helps a hunter narrow a live target’s location.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often does the MW4 DMZ Bounty leaderboard update?
Activision says the FOB leaderboard is updated weekly. It displays the top 50 Most Wanted Operators and the top 50 Bounty Hunters, so its rankings are not a real-time list of every active target.
Are exact Bounty payouts published for every Wanted level?
No permanent payout schedule is established in the official guide. Values, intel prices, Tac-Map behavior and reward scaling are live-service details that can change with patches, so treat any player-made table as version- and region-specific.
Is there an official average payout or survival rate for Bounty runs?
No authoritative average payout, win rate or survival statistic is provided in Activision’s canonical guide. Your actual return depends on the target’s level, whether you buy intel, and whether you successfully exfil with the Dog Tag.
Does a Bounty carry into future deployments?
The kill tracking that leads to Wanted status is counted across deployments, but the reward still belongs to the specific Dog Tag in the active run. You must complete the kill-and-exfil sequence in that deployment to bank a hunter payout.
