A “calendar.dll is missing” or “calendar.dll was not found” message means a program tried to load a dynamic-link library that Windows could not resolve. The filename alone does not identify the correct file: records associate calendar.dll with Stardock LClock, Ulead Calend_d, SAP BusinessObjects components and other products. It is not established as one universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 system file. The safe fix is therefore to identify the executable and installation that requested it, then use Microsoft’s DISM and System File Checker tools only when Windows corruption is plausible, or repair the owning application with its original installer. Do not begin by copying a DLL from a download catalog.
What does the calendar.dll error mean?
The message identifies a missing dependency, not a single known Windows component. A DLL is loaded by an executable when that program starts or when it reaches a feature that needs the library. If the file was removed, damaged, moved, blocked by an incomplete installation or replaced with an incompatible build, the program can stop before its window appears.

calendar.dll is ambiguous. Existing file records place it in different products and folders, including C:Program Fileslclockcalendar.dll for Stardock LClock, a Ulead Calend_d installation and SAP BusinessObjects modules. Those binaries are not interchangeable. A filename-only download can therefore give you the wrong publisher, architecture or version while leaving the original error unresolved.
Microsoft’s documentation for protected Windows files explains how to repair a damaged Windows image; it does not identify calendar.dll as a universal Windows 10 or Windows 11 file. Treat the error as an ownership problem first.

What should I record before changing anything?
Capture the complete message and the context in which it appears. The failed executable and any path in the dialog usually provide more useful evidence than the DLL name.
- Copy the exact wording. Note whether it says the file is missing, cannot be found, is not designed to run on Windows, or names another module as well.
- Record the executable. Write down the program or game that fails and whether the error appears during launch, after selecting a feature or during an update.
- Record every path shown. A path under a product folder points toward an application-owned file; a path under a Windows system directory changes the diagnostic direction.
- Identify the publisher and architecture. Check the program’s About page, installer information or file properties. A 32-bit application and a 64-bit application can require different builds.
- Note recent changes. Include an uninstall, cleanup, update, drive migration, antivirus quarantine, restore operation or interrupted installation immediately before the message.
| Clue in the message | Most useful next question |
|---|---|
| A named application or game fails while Windows otherwise works | Which publisher and installer own that application? |
| A Windows component or several built-in programs fail | Could protected Windows files or the component store be damaged? |
| A full third-party folder path is shown | Does that folder still contain the program, and does its installer offer repair? |
| No executable or path is shown | Can the message be reproduced while one known program is opened? |
Is it safe to download calendar.dll from a DLL website?
It is not a safe default. Third-party catalogs list the same filename for unrelated products and locations, so a file can have the right name but the wrong code, publisher, architecture or dependency set. The catalog record itself is not proof that the file belongs to your installation.
Use Microsoft’s repair tools for protected Windows files and the original application publisher’s installer for an application file. If a security product quarantined a file, review its quarantine and event details before restoring anything; restoring an unrelated DLL does not repair the underlying installation. Do not rename another DLL to calendar.dll, copy a file from a different computer, or place a random download beside an executable just to make the dialog disappear.
How do I run Microsoft’s Windows repair sequence?
When the symptoms point to Windows corruption, run Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) first and System File Checker (SFC) second. The sequence is the same on supported Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations.
1. Open an elevated Command Prompt
- Save your work and sign in with an account that can approve administrator actions.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Choose Run as administrator, then approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Confirm that the window title indicates an administrator Command Prompt. The commands can fail or lack access in a non-elevated window.
2. Repair the Windows image with DISM
At the prompt, enter the command exactly as shown and press Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
/Online targets the Windows installation currently running. /Restorehealth checks the component store and attempts to restore damaged content, normally using Windows Update as the repair source. Let the operation finish; closing the window or restarting while it is still working can leave the repair incomplete.

3. Scan protected files with SFC
After DISM completes, run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft says SFC scans protected system files and replaces corrupted copies with a cached copy when one is available. Wait until verification reaches 100 percent before interpreting the result or closing the window.
4. Read the SFC result
| SFC result | What it tells you | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| “did not find any integrity violations” | The scan did not detect corruption in protected files. | Return to the ownership check. The failing DLL is more likely application-specific, or the problem may be elsewhere in the dependency chain. |
| “found corrupt files and successfully repaired them” | Windows replaced one or more protected files. | Restart Windows and retry the program that produced the message. |
| “found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them” | Some protected files remain unrepaired. | Use a matching offline repair source as described below, then run DISM and SFC again. |
| The scan cannot run or reports another servicing error | The repair environment or component store needs additional attention. | Record the complete error text before trying another source; do not substitute a downloaded DLL. |
What if DISM cannot obtain the repair files?
DISM may report that source files could not be found when Windows Update cannot supply suitable content. Microsoft documents using a matching Windows installation or another offline source, such as removable media, a network share or a DVD.
Use installation media that matches the installed system
- Use media for the same Windows release, edition, language and processor architecture as the installation being repaired.
- Use a known-good Windows installation source on a USB flash drive, mounted image, network share or DVD.
- Do not assume that any Windows 10 or Windows 11 media is interchangeable. A mismatch can leave DISM unable to locate the required component or can produce another servicing error.
- Follow Microsoft’s documented DISM source syntax for the media type you have. If the source is a removable drive, verify its drive letter in File Explorer before entering it.
After DISM completes successfully from the matching source, run sfc /scannow again and wait for the final percentage. If the same files remain unrepaired, keep the DISM and SFC result text; it will be useful when contacting Microsoft support or the application publisher.
How do I repair the application that owns calendar.dll?
If one third-party program produces the error and Windows’ protected-file scan is clean, repair that program instead of replacing the DLL manually. The exact controls vary by publisher and version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use an available repair or update option
- Open Settings and go to Apps. On Windows 11, open Installed apps; on Windows 10, open Apps & features.
- Select the affected application and look for Advanced options, Modify, Repair or an equivalent control. Not every desktop program exposes these buttons.
- Run the publisher’s update process if the installed version is known to be old or an update was interrupted.
- Restart Windows and launch the application again. If the same message appears, continue with a clean reinstall using the original publisher or a trusted installation package.
Reinstall from the correct source
Uninstall the affected application using its normal uninstaller, restart if requested, and install the same product family and architecture again. Use the publisher’s installer or the media supplied with the product; do not borrow calendar.dll from another product that happens to use the same filename. For older software, confirm that the installer supports the Windows version you are running before removing the current copy.
If the error names a game executable, repair or verify the game through the launcher that installed it, then reinstall the launcher or game only from its official distribution source if verification cannot restore the missing component. The launcher’s package, not a generic DLL catalog, is the authoritative source for that game’s files.

Where should calendar.dll be located?
There is no single correct Windows-wide location. The expected folder belongs to the product that ships the DLL.
| Associated record | Example location or context | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Stardock LClock | C:Program Fileslclockcalendar.dll |
An application-owned file under the LClock installation folder. |
| Ulead Calend_d | Associated with the Ulead application rather than a universal Windows directory. | Use the Ulead installer and version when repairing it. |
| SAP BusinessObjects | Associated with SAP BusinessObjects modules. | Use the matching SAP component’s installation and architecture. |
| Protected Windows files | No universal calendar.dll location is established by Microsoft’s repair guidance. |
Use DISM and SFC rather than copying a file into a system folder. |
If File Explorer shows a copy in a different product directory, that does not prove it is the file your failing executable needs. Compare the folder with the executable named in the error and with the owning publisher’s installation records.

Which repair should I choose?
Choose based on ownership and source trust, not on the DLL filename.
| Situation | Preferred remedy | Source | Main risk avoided |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several Windows components fail or SFC reports protected-file corruption | Run DISM, then SFC | Microsoft’s online servicing source or a matching offline installation source | Replacing a system file with an unrelated binary |
| DISM cannot download repair content | Repeat DISM with matching installation media or another documented offline source | USB/removable media, network share, mounted installation or DVD that matches the system | Using media from the wrong edition, build, language or architecture |
| One named third-party application fails | Repair, update or reinstall that application | The original publisher’s installer | Mixing DLLs from incompatible products |
| A generic DLL catalog offers a replacement | Do not use it as the first-line fix | Provenance is insufficient | Malware exposure, wrong version or a new dependency error |
What should I do after the repair?
- Restart Windows if DISM or SFC repaired files, then reproduce the original action.
- Launch the exact executable that failed rather than testing only a shortcut or a different program from the same suite.
- If the application now starts but a feature fails later, record that new context; it may identify a second missing dependency.
- Keep the original error, command output and application version together if you need support. Those details let the publisher match the request to the correct binary.
- If neither Windows repair nor the owning installer resolves the problem, stop copying DLLs between folders and contact the publisher with the recorded path, architecture and error text.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why does the message appear only when I open one program?
Programs load many libraries only when they start or when a particular feature is invoked. Windows can therefore operate normally while one application fails at the moment it requests its private dependency. That pattern points toward the application’s installer, update history and architecture before it points toward a system-wide Windows failure.
Can a Windows installation USB repair an application’s calendar.dll?
It can repair Windows components when the media matches the installed edition, language and architecture, but it is not a substitute for the installer that shipped an application-specific DLL. If the failing path belongs to a third-party product, obtain the matching package from that product’s publisher instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo Windows 10 and Windows 11 require different commands?
The documented online DISM and SFC commands are used in the same order on Windows 10 and Windows 11. The important compatibility check concerns any offline source: its release, edition, language and architecture must match the installation being serviced.

How common is a calendar.dll missing error?
No authoritative prevalence statistic establishes how often this filename appears in Windows 10 or Windows 11 errors. Because the name belongs to multiple products, counts from one application’s support records cannot be treated as a Windows-wide rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I identify the correct DLL version from the filename alone?
No. The filename is shared by unrelated products, so the failed executable, publisher, installation folder and processor architecture are needed to identify the correct package. A filename match without that context is not sufficient provenance.
What if the error disappears after reinstalling but returns after an update?
Record the update version and the exact executable that fails, then contact that application’s publisher. A recurring return after updates suggests the package or updater is restoring an incompatible or incomplete component, rather than proving that Windows itself is missing a universal file.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should I copy calendar.dll into System32 or SysWOW64?
Not unless the product’s documented installer specifically directs that placement. Moving an application DLL into a Windows system folder can create version conflicts and does not establish that the file belongs to the operating system.
What information should I send to technical support?
Provide the complete error text, the failing executable and path, application version, Windows edition and architecture, and the final DISM/SFC results. Including whether the problem began after an update or reinstall helps support reproduce the dependency issue.
