What the leaked Modern Warfare 2 images reportedly showed
On August 3, 2022, GameSpot reported that Los Angeles Rams kicker Cameron Dicker had shared an image of a Modern Warfare 2 menu. The report also described a blurry image shared by another player, with “DMZ” visible in its upper-right corner. The original posts were later deleted, so these details are based on GameSpot’s contemporaneous account rather than independently viewable posts.

GameSpot characterized the images as appearing to confirm DMZ’s existence. That was a reasonable reading of the visible label, but the images did not establish the mode’s full design or verify every pre-release rumor associated with it.

Activision’s November 9, 2022 Season 01 overview described DMZ as an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode in Warzone 2.0. Players could enter solo or in squads, take on faction missions and optional objectives, encounter enemy Operators or AI combatants, search for valuable items, and try to survive long enough to extract. Xbox Wire published a substantially similar description.

This official explanation confirmed DMZ’s existence and broad premise after the leak. It did not authenticate every visual detail in the deleted images. Activision presented DMZ as a Warzone 2.0 experience arriving alongside Modern Warfare II Season 01, not as a paid standalone mode within the game.
