Riot’s public guidance does not confirm that a VALORANT hardware ban transfers with a GPU to its next owner. It also does not establish that replacing a graphics card will clear a device restriction. Riot does not publicly identify GPU serial numbers or other component identifiers as the basis for enforcement in the sources cited here. If you encounter a penalty or device restriction, keep the exact message and contact Riot Player Support.
What Riot’s public guidance does—and does not—say
Riot describes Vanguard as security software that includes a client and a kernel-mode driver. It says unexpected interactions with the Vanguard client or driver on a device can affect the ability to play. That description does not disclose which device identifiers Riot uses for enforcement or whether any identifier is tied to a component that changes owners. Riot’s Vanguard overview, published June 2, 2026, describes Vanguard as software designed to uphold competitive integrity.

Riot’s VALORANT penalties FAQ, also published June 2, 2026, explains player penalties and notes that details about detection systems are limited. It does not say that a GPU carries a ban to a subsequent owner. The public information therefore supports neither a definite “yes” nor a definite “no” about a GPU-specific transfer.

Account penalties, device restrictions, and security requirements are different
Account penalties
A penalty described in Riot’s penalties FAQ concerns a player’s account or conduct. The FAQ is the relevant public starting point for understanding a penalty notice, but it does not provide a rule about a graphics card inheriting that penalty when sold.

Vanguard and device or configuration restrictions
Riot says Vanguard’s client and kernel-mode driver can have unexpected interactions with a device. Separately, its Vanguard system requirements page discusses security features such as TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Memory Integrity (HVCI/VBS), and IOMMU that may be required depending on a PC’s configuration. These are operating requirements, not proof that a PC or GPU has received a disciplinary hardware ban.
Hardware identification
The cited public pages do not identify a GPU serial number—or any other particular component identifier—as the basis for an enforcement action. Riot’s internal enforcement implementation, including whether a component identifier persists across ownership changes, is not established in this public guidance.

If you are buying or selling a used GPU
Riot’s published material does not let a buyer verify that a used GPU is “clean,” determine that it is banned, or conclude that changing it will fix a VALORANT restriction. A seller likewise cannot establish from these pages that a penalty follows the GPU. Treat claims either way as unverified rather than as a guarantee about the card.

If VALORANT shows a penalty or restriction
- Record the exact notice. Keep the error or penalty message and note when it appears.
- Identify what it says. Distinguish a stated account penalty from a message about Vanguard or system security requirements; the latter may concern configuration rather than disciplinary status.
- Contact Riot Player Support. Use Riot’s penalties and bans guidance as the starting point for an account-specific question. Riot’s public pages do not promise that a particular penalty will be reversed.
