Yes—ducks can swim in natural bodies of water on your Stardew Valley farm. But the built Fish Pond is a separate fish-raising building, and the game’s mechanics do not establish that ducks can enter or swim inside it.

What counts as a pond?

“Fish pond” can mean either water on your farm or the constructed Fish Pond building. The distinction matters: ducks swim in farm water, while the Fish Pond is a dedicated structure for raising fish.

Place Can ducks swim there? What to know
Natural water on the farm Yes The duck entry gives the Farm Pond and water on Riverland and Beach farms as examples. Stardew Valley Wiki: Duck
Constructed Fish Pond building Not established The building is described as a fish-raising structure with its own placement rules; the available mechanics description does not list ducks as occupants. Stardew Valley Wiki: Fish Pond

How duck swimming works

When ducks swim in farm water, they can appear to peck while floating. The duck entry also says swimming ducks do not need hay or grass to be fed overnight. This is a gameplay mechanic, not a rule about ducks being placed in the constructed Fish Pond. Stardew Valley Wiki: Duck

How to interpret the Fish Pond building

The constructed Fish Pond is a 5-by-5 farm building used to raise fish and is built through Robin’s Carpenter’s Shop. Its purpose and mechanics are separate from the natural farm water where ducks swim. The available Fish Pond description does not document ducks living in or swimming inside the building.
