Yes. A token permanent can phase out and later phase in. Phasing does not move it to another zone: it remains on the battlefield, and phasing out or in does not trigger zone-change abilities.
What happens to a token when it phases out?
The current Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules, effective September 25, 2026, state: “Tokens continue to exist on the battlefield while phased out.” A phased-out permanent is treated as though it does not exist for most game purposes, but that does not mean it was exiled or otherwise left the battlefield. Its status changes; its zone does not. Wizards’ Comprehensive Rules, rules 702.26a–d and 111.6–8.

Phasing also does not change a permanent’s controller, and zone-change triggers do not trigger when a permanent phases out or in. So a token’s phasing is not a leave-the-battlefield event.

When does the token phase out and return?
Under rule 702.26a, phasing happens during the relevant player’s untap step, before that player untaps permanents. That player phases out their phased-in permanents with phasing while simultaneously phasing in permanents they control that phased out. The token follows those same rules; it does not leave the battlefield during the process.

Do you need a special token card?
No special printed token card is required. Players need a clear way to represent tokens and counters; a token card or marker is an optional aid, not a requirement for phasing. See Comprehensive Rules, rule 100.2.

Which rules source controls?
Use the official Comprehensive Rules for the ruling. Wizards’ June 30, 2026 Marvel Super Heroes Update Bulletin says that if its summary conflicts with the official rules, the official rules take precedence. Wizards’ rules portal identifies the Comprehensive Rules as the reference for rules and corner cases. Update Bulletin.
