Yes. First tame the cat, then use your platform’s interact control on it to switch between sitting and standing. If you’re holding raw cod or raw salmon, the cat may eat the fish instead of responding to the command.
How to make a cat sit
- Tame a stray cat. Approach it with raw cod or raw salmon and feed it. Minecraft Wiki says each fish has a one-third chance to tame a stray cat, so you may need more than one.
- Put away any fish. With raw cod or salmon in hand, interacting with the cat may feed it rather than issue a sit command.
- Use or interact with the tamed cat. The game’s interact control toggles the cat between sitting and standing. Use the control for your platform and control mapping; a single button or key should not be assumed to apply to every player.
Mojang’s Bedrock sample data describes a tamed-cat state with a sittable component and behavior that keeps the cat sitting. That supports the sit command in Bedrock, but the sample is from the live main branch and is not tied to a particular release. Mojang Bedrock cat sample
Why is my cat sitting on a chest?
Cats can choose to sit on chests, beds, and active furnaces on their own; this is different from commanding a tamed cat to sit. A cat on a chest prevents you from using it until you make the cat stand. Interact with the cat to move it, taking care not to hold fish if you do not mean to feed it. Minecraft Wiki cat reference
If the sit command does not work
- Check that the cat is tamed. The sit/stand command applies to a tamed cat, not a stray.
- Check what you are holding. Raw cod or raw salmon can trigger feeding instead.
- Use your current interact control. The exact control depends on platform and player mapping; the cited references do not establish one universal button or a complete Java-versus-Bedrock control comparison.
- Check whether it chose a block. A cat sitting on a chest, bed, or active furnace may be behaving autonomously rather than following a sit command.
The Minecraft Wiki describes these commands generally, while Mojang’s sample provides Bedrock entity implementation details; neither establishes identical controls across all editions and platforms.
