You can’t defeat the Scoutmaster in PEAK through normal gameplay. Treat him as an avoidance encounter: outrun him, close the gap to your teammates, and don’t let one climber get isolated far ahead. If he catches you, he can injure you and throw you toward a dangerous fall.
Can you defeat the Scoutmaster in PEAK?
No. The available guides describe no normal way to kill or defeat the Scoutmaster; the practical response is to escape. PCGamesN’s guide likewise advises players to outrun him. A piton trick may interfere with his grab, but it is not a reliable way to beat him.

What triggers the Scoutmaster’s chase?
According to the community-maintained PEAK Wiki, the game checks for the Scoutmaster every 30 seconds. Its guide-reported conditions for naturally targeting a player are:

- The highest climber is below 1,320 meters.
- That player is at least 160 meters above the second-highest player.
When those conditions apply, the Scoutmaster targets the highest climber. These thresholds come from community documentation, not an official developer source, and may change with game updates.

How to avoid or end a chase
Stay close to your team
Avoid building a large lead over the second-highest climber. If the Scoutmaster starts chasing, reduce the separation by regrouping rather than continuing to climb alone.
Know what the wiki says can stop targeting
The PEAK Wiki lists several conditions that stop the Scoutmaster targeting a player: they pass out or die, climb above 1,320 meters, stop being the highest climber, come within 128 vertical meters of the second-highest player, or have another player within 24 meters. These are guide-reported mechanics and may be version-sensitive.

Use a high piton only as an unreliable trick
The wiki describes placing a piton high on a wall and standing on it as a tactic that may make the Scoutmaster’s grab fail. Repeated attempts can also cause pathfinding problems. It is not guaranteed, and it does not defeat him; prioritize escaping and rejoining your team.

What happens if the Scoutmaster catches you?
The PEAK Wiki reports that he grabs the target, deals 25 Injury, then throws them in a direction intended to cause the longest fall. It also says he waits two seconds before attempting another throw. Treat those exact attack details as community-reported and potentially subject to change between game versions.

Can you summon him in solo play?
Yes. The wiki says the Scoutmaster’s Bugle is the only way to make him appear in solo play. Using it forces him to chase you for two minutes, so it is an intentional way to trigger the encounter—not a defensive item.
