To beat the Wandering Wight, preserve stamina, use Immobilize to create a deliberate damage window, and attack only after its heavy moves finish. From the Outside the Forest shrine in Chapter 1’s Forest of Wolves, follow the path straight ahead to find this optional boss. If you want its Spirit, defeat it before completing the secret-area bell route or defeating Elder Jinchi.
Before you enter the fight
Activate and rest at the Outside the Forest shrine so you can approach with full resources. Avoid sprinting into the encounter with depleted stamina: you need enough for attacks and evasions.

Open with a planned damage window
PowerPyx suggests opening with a running heavy attack, then using Immobilize and following with quick attacks. The final hit of a quick-attack combo can stagger the boss, but only commit to the finisher when you have enough stamina to complete it and still evade afterward. Do not spend your entire stamina bar on one sequence.

Wait out heavy attacks before punishing
Watch for overhead slams, sweeping arm attacks, and rushes. Dodge the impact and any follow-up pressure, then wait until the move’s commitment and recovery have ended before taking a short attack string. In particular, do not attack immediately after dodging a slam; the pressure may not be over.
Use Immobilize when you can capitalize
Do not cast Immobilize simply because it is ready. Use it when the boss has committed to a move, is within range, and you can turn the opening into damage or time to heal. Keep your punish short if stamina is low.

Fight now or come back later?

Secure the Spirit before the secret-area route
The Wandering Wight is optional, but its Spirit is missable in the current playthrough if you progress through the secret-area bell route or defeat Elder Jinchi before dealing with the boss. The guides describe the cutoff in slightly different terms; the safe order is to defeat Wandering Wight before completing that route. PowerPyx notes that the boss can respawn in New Game+.
If you are stuck
- Use an attempt to learn the timing of the slam, arm sweep, and rush instead of forcing damage every time.
- Shorten your attack string when stamina is low; save enough to dodge.
- Cast Immobilize after a committed move when you are close enough to use the opening.
- Leave and return later if the optional fight has stopped being productive, but do so before progressing through the bell route if you want the Spirit.
PowerPyx gives the encounter a subjective difficulty rating of 4/10 on its guide page dated August 20, 2024. The combat advice here is about attack categories and recovery windows; the cited guides do not establish a complete move list or patch-by-patch timing.
