Instead, you can buy an eligible cosmetic that’s currently in the Item Shop and send it to a friend using the in-game gift flow.
Why you can’t gift a skin you already own
Fortnite’s gifting feature does not transfer items from your locker. There is no setting or unlock that makes an owned skin giftable, and Epic does not support trading cosmetics between players. Its locker gifting support page states that there is currently no option to gift cosmetics from your locker.

How to gift a Fortnite skin from the Item Shop
You can gift an eligible cosmetic that is for sale in the Item Shop. The purchase is a new gift for the recipient, not a transfer of something you own.
- Open the Item Shop and select an eligible item that you want to buy for your friend.
- Select GIFT.
- Choose the intended recipient or enter their Epic Games display name. Epic recommends using the display name rather than a console gamertag to help avoid selecting the wrong person.
- Check the price shown for the gift, then confirm the purchase.
Epic’s gift instructions cover the in-game flow. The amount displayed can differ from the price you see for yourself: discounts from cosmetics you already own may not carry over, and the gift price is adjusted for the recipient.

Requirements and limits for Fortnite gifting
Before you try to send a gift, check Epic’s current rules:
- Your account: You must have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled and be at least level 2.
- Your friendship: The recipient must have been on your Friends list for at least two days.
- Recipient account: The recipient must not have a negative V-Bucks balance.
- Gift limit: You can send up to five gifts in a rolling 24-hour period. The limit resets based on when you sent gifts, rather than at a fixed time of day.
- Available item: The cosmetic must currently be in the Item Shop, and the recipient must not already own it. Ownership of items in a bundle can also prevent the gift from being sent.
- Eligible content: V-Bucks, Battle Pass levels, Event Passes, Fortnite Crew, and some real-money offers are among the items Epic says are ineligible. Some pass-related content may have exceptions, so check the specific item rather than assuming all passes can or cannot be gifted.
- Bundle pricing: Epic’s gift instructions exclude dynamically priced bundles when the recipient already owns one or more included items; the instructions identify this restriction with update v31.40.
- Refunds: Gifts are non-refundable.
Epic lists gifting as available on Android, PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox. These requirements and supported options can change; see Epic’s current gifting support page for the applicable rules.

If the GIFT option is missing
Check the account, item, and recipient conditions before trying again:
- Confirm that 2FA is enabled and your account is level 2 or higher.
- Make sure the recipient has been on your Friends list for at least two days.
- Check that you have not reached the five-gift rolling 24-hour limit.
- Verify that the item is currently in the Item Shop and eligible for gifting.
- Check that the recipient does not already own the cosmetic or relevant bundle contents, and does not have a negative V-Bucks balance.
If those checks do not resolve it, consult Epic’s gift troubleshooting guidance.
