Can you overclock a PS5?
Sony’s support and product-design materials reviewed do not document a user-facing overclock setting or supported procedure for PS5. That is not proof that every unofficial exploit is impossible; it means there is no Sony-supported consumer method to recommend.
Overclocking means trying to run processing hardware beyond its intended settings. Sony describes the PS5 as an engineered system in which performance, cooling, and noise are balanced, rather than presenting clock controls for owners. Its 2020 PS5 teardown discusses that design balance.
Will overclocking improve PS5 game performance?
No cited official source measures an overclock-related gain in frame rate, resolution, or gameplay stability. There is therefore no reliable basis here to promise more FPS or smoother play from modifying a PS5. Results for PC overclocking—or anecdotes about a particular console—would not establish what an unofficial change does across PS5 models and games.

Game performance also depends on supported system, game, and display features. Sony’s PS5: The Ultimate FAQ notes that developers determine support for certain features; it does not describe an overclock method or provide overclock benchmarks.
Is it safe to overclock a PS5, and can it affect the warranty?
There is no supported overclocking path to treat as a safe consumer upgrade. Sony’s system-software guidance says that installing update data from another source or by another method, or using a console altered or modified in any way, may cause it not to operate properly or accept official updates. Sony also warns that this may void the system warranty or affect access to warranty and repair services.

Disassembly carries separate risks. Sony’s 2020 teardown says, “Disassembling your PS5 console will invalidate your manufacturer’s guarantee.” The PS5 Pro teardown warns, “Do not try this at home. Risk of fires, and exposure to electric shock or other injuries,” in the context of its teardown, and also says disassembly invalidates the manufacturer’s guarantee.
Warranty terms vary by product and region. For example, Sony’s CFI-12XXA safety guide lists exclusions involving misuse or operation outside specifications, unauthorized alterations, repairs, and software. Check the guarantee or warranty applicable to your own console and location; these warnings do not establish that every modification automatically removes statutory consumer rights.

What to do if your PS5 is loud or seems hot
A louder fan during some games or applications can be normal: Sony says the fan may work faster to cool the system. Its noise and ventilation guidance recommends maintaining airflow and removing dust safely.
- Keep the side and rear vents unobstructed and leave at least 10 cm of free space around each side.
- Avoid narrow or cramped spaces and carpet or rugs with long fibers.
- To remove dust around vent openings, disconnect the AC power cable at the rear first, then use a low-powered vacuum.
- If the noise or heat concern remains, contact PlayStation Support.
These steps maintain airflow; they do not overclock the console or raise performance beyond its design.

How to pursue better PS5 performance through supported options
