Yes—but not directly on SteamOS. Epic says Fortnite cannot be played directly on Steam Deck and points players to Xbox Cloud Gaming as a workaround. That streams Fortnite over the internet; it does not install the game on the Deck. You can use the Xbox route with a free Microsoft account, and Epic says a paid Game Pass subscription is not required.
Can Fortnite run directly on Steam Deck?
Epic Games’ current support guidance is explicit: “No, you cannot play Fortnite on Steam Deck, directly.” In other words, the supported answer is not to install Fortnite and run it natively in SteamOS.

Proton support for some anti-cheat software does not establish Fortnite compatibility. Valve says developers must enable and configure support for middleware such as Easy Anti-Cheat, and that kernel-space anti-cheat solutions are not currently supported in Proton. Separately, Epic says Fortnite uses Easy Anti-Cheat kernel-level protection while it runs. Together, those details provide context for the compatibility problem; Epic’s Steam Deck support answer itself does not give this technical explanation. Epic’s Steam Deck guidance and Valve’s Proton documentation are the relevant references.

Xbox Cloud Gaming is the route Epic specifically identifies for Steam Deck, and Microsoft publishes a Deck setup walkthrough. The game runs on cloud servers and is streamed to your Deck, rather than being installed locally.

What about GeForce NOW or Amazon Luna?
Epic lists NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and Xbox Cloud Gaming as services for streaming Fortnite. However, Epic’s Steam Deck-specific answer names Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Microsoft provides a Steam Deck setup guide. The available official guidance cited here does not establish a current Deck-specific Fortnite setup for GeForce NOW or Luna. That is not proof that those services cannot be used on the Deck; check each provider’s current device, account, and regional requirements before choosing one. Epic’s cloud gaming services page lists the Fortnite options.

No such requirement is established for the Xbox Cloud Gaming workaround. Epic’s February 10, 2026 article says Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU would be required for PC players in tournaments beginning February 19. That is a tournament-specific PC requirement, not a prerequisite Epic identifies for streaming Fortnite to a Steam Deck. Epic’s anti-cheat article also estimates that about 95% of Fortnite PC players were already on Windows 11-compatible PCs; that figure is Epic’s estimate about PC players, not a Steam Deck statistic.
