Which platforms can play together?
EA’s September 9, 2026 announcement names PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 as supported cross-play platforms. That means players on different platforms within that list can play together online. EA’s announcement does not specify storefront combinations, account-linking steps, or the exact game version required, so check the current game and platform information if an invite does not work. EA’s older Friend’s Pass FAQ says the pass supports cross-generation play but not cross-platform play. That broad statement predates the September 2026 announcement, so use the newer platform list for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation rather than applying the older FAQ’s wording to those platforms. How to play online with Friend’s Pass
One player must own the full game for both people to play the complete adventure. The other player can download Friend’s Pass from their platform’s digital store and accept an invitation from the game’s main menu. If neither player owns the full game, the pass allows both to try the First Chapter in local or online co-op, rather than the full adventure.
- Confirm the platform pair. For cross-play, make sure both players are using platforms named in EA’s PC, Xbox, and PlayStation list.
- Have one player own the full game. Only a full-game owner can host the complete adventure.
- Have the guest download Friend’s Pass. Search the digital store for the guest’s platform, then launch the pass.
- Send and accept the invite. The host invites the guest from the game’s main menu. Both players need to be online at the same time for online play.
EA says both players need the applicable first-party accounts. Its FAQ also says both players need the relevant console online subscription for online co-op on Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox. The FAQ uses the names Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation Plus, and Xbox Live Gold; verify the current console subscription terms for your region before relying on that terminology.

Can you play together on one console or two Switch consoles?
For couch co-op, an internet connection is not required. On the original Switch, EA says two players can play locally using two Joy-Cons or a controller per player. Two original Switch consoles can also connect through local wireless; that is distinct from cross-play with PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

The host’s save progression determines the chapter or point where the session starts. A guest’s saved progress carries over if they later buy the full game, and EA says chapters through the point they joined in a saved session are unlocked for that guest. A host can invite a different friend after the current guest stops playing, but only one friend can play with the host at a time.

What to check if the invite fails
- Check that both platforms are covered by EA’s current cross-play list. An original Switch player cannot use cross-play with PC, Xbox, or PlayStation under EA’s Switch guidance.
- Confirm the guest has downloaded Friend’s Pass and that the host owns the full game if you want to play beyond the First Chapter trial.
- Make sure both players are online and signed in to the required platform accounts; for console online co-op, check whether each player has the required platform subscription.
- If one player is on Switch 2, do not assume cross-play is available based only on the September 2026 announcement: it names PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, not Switch 2.
