Players can no longer log in or play on PSVR2, PSVR, PS5, PC, mobile, or any other platform.
Updated August 18, 2026: Before the shutdown, Rec Room also had no confirmed native PSVR2 version. A 2025 report attributed that position to Rec Room co-founder Cameron Brown, who reportedly said the port was non-trivial and did not appear economically viable based on expected player numbers.

The current answer: Rec Room is unavailable everywhere
Rec Room’s official shutdown notice said its online services and applications would close on June 1, 2026. After that deadline, players could no longer log in or play. The company’s gift-card terms also state that access licenses ended at 12 p.m. Pacific Time on the same date.
This means the PSVR2 question is now secondary: there is no working version of Rec Room for any headset, console, PC, or mobile device. The closure was not limited to PlayStation VR.

Was Rec Room ever officially supported on PSVR2?
Available evidence indicates that Rec Room never received a native PSVR2 version before the shutdown. Rec Room’s historical official platform list named PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, but did not list PSVR2 as a separate supported VR platform. That omission alone does not prove every technical compatibility detail, but there was no confirmed native PS5-and-PSVR2 release.
In practical terms, owning the PS5 version did not automatically mean that the PSVR2 headset could run Rec Room in VR.

What did the developers reportedly say?
According to a September 2025 report summarizing a Reddit AMA with Rec Room co-founder Cameron Brown, the studio had “no current plans” for a PSVR2 version.
The report described the work as a non-trivial port and said the expected PSVR2 player numbers did not appear sufficient to justify the development and ongoing maintenance costs. Because the original AMA was not independently verified in the available source material, this should be treated as a reported developer position—not as a confirmed permanent cancellation announcement.
The later shutdown made that distinction moot. Rec Room will not receive a future PSVR2 port because the underlying game service has closed.
Why original PSVR support did not automatically carry over
PSVR2 was not simply a higher-resolution replacement for the original PSVR. It introduced different hardware, tracking technology, controllers, and software requirements. Developers generally needed to create or adapt a build specifically for PSVR2.

Therefore, Rec Room’s historical support for the original PSVR ecosystem did not guarantee compatibility with PSVR2. The original PSVR version also depended on the older headset and associated PlayStation accessories, rather than functioning as a PSVR2 version.
Rec Room’s own ship notes separately discussed sunsetting original PSVR support, but that was part of the wider end of the service. It did not mean that PSVR2 support was being substituted in its place. See the Rec Room ship-notes archive for the historical platform updates.

Historically, PSVR2 could be connected to a compatible Windows PC using Sony’s PSVR2 PC adapter, the required display and USB connections, and the appropriate PC VR software configuration. A player could then attempt to use the PC version of Rec Room through its supported PC distribution route.

It also depended on compatible PC hardware and software, and it could not change the platform support offered by Rec Room itself.

It is no longer a solution. Do not buy a PSVR2 PC adapter specifically to play Rec Room: the game’s services are offline.

Before closure, Rec Room’s official platform list included iOS, Android, Meta/Oculus Rift and Quest, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, Pico VR, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Those listings do not indicate that the applications remain playable today.
What about accounts, purchases, and old downloads?
During the wind-down, Rec Room disabled new account creation and new Rec Room Plus subscriptions. Its terms also stated that licenses to access Rec Room would terminate at the shutdown time, with refunds available during a specified April 23–June 1, 2026 window.
