Yes. You can join a Shadow Ho-Oh raid remotely with a Remote Raid Pass when one is available. Niantic made remote participation in Shadow Raids an ongoing feature on May 13, 2025; the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day held on January 19, 2025, has ended.
How remote Shadow Ho-Oh raids work now
Niantic’s May 2025 update allows Trainers to use a Remote Raid Pass to participate in Shadow Raids, and those raids count toward the daily Remote Raid limit. The change took effect May 13, 2025, and Niantic said it would remain after the related event concluded. See Niantic’s Remote Raid update.

In practice, you still need an eligible Shadow Ho-Oh raid to be available and a Remote Raid Pass to join remotely. The pass is the in-game item used for remote raid participation; official help describes joining from an eligible raid shown on the Nearby screen or accessible on the map. Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day was a past event
Niantic scheduled Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day for Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. At that point, remote Shadow Raids were temporarily enabled for the event for the first time. That event window is over; it is not required for remote Shadow Raid access now. The event notice also listed up to five additional free Raid Passes, an increased chance of encountering Shiny Ho-Oh, and an optional ticket with additional bonuses. Those were event-specific benefits, not current standing bonuses.
Remote Raid limits and older guidance
Niantic’s May 2025 update raised the ordinary daily Remote Raid limit from five to ten, while noting that special events may raise it. Shadow Raids count toward that limit. The exact limit is a changeable game rule, so check current Pokémon GO announcements if you need today’s cap.

The January 2025 Ho-Oh event temporarily raised the limit to 20 for a specified January 18–19, 2025 PST window. That was a limited event allowance, not the regular cap. Older general advice that Shadow Raids require in-person participation was superseded by Niantic’s May 2025 update.
What to expect in a Shadow Raid
Shadow Raid bosses appear at Gyms captured by Team GO Rocket. A Shadow boss can become enraged during battle; if you have Purified Gems, you can use them to help calm it. Niantic explains this mechanic in its Shadow Raid help article.

Is a Shadow Ho-Oh raid scheduled?
The official announcements cited here establish the January 2025 Raid Day and the later remote-access rule, but do not establish a current or future Shadow Ho-Oh event date. Remote eligibility means you can join if a Shadow Ho-Oh raid appears; it does not mean one is currently scheduled. Check official Pokémon GO news for event availability.
