No. In vanilla Minecraft, you cannot move an enchantment from an already enchanted item onto a book. A grindstone can remove eligible enchantments, but it does not turn them into an enchanted book. To put an enchantment on an item, use an enchanted book with an anvil.

What happens if you use a grindstone?

A grindstone removes eligible enchantments from an item and returns some experience. The removed enchantments are not preserved or transferred to a book. Putting a blank book in the grindstone with an enchanted item will not extract its enchantments.

The grindstone mechanic is described in the Minecraft Wiki’s grindstone reference; a CurseForge guide to disenchanting also explains that removed enchantments are destroyed rather than made into books.

How do you apply an enchanted book to an item?

Use an anvil to combine an eligible item with an enchanted book that already has the enchantment you want. Microsoft’s Bedrock creator documentation on enchantments describes this as a way to add enchantments. This process applies an enchantment from a book; it does not extract one from an item.

Can a mod or add-on transfer enchantments?

Mods or add-ons may introduce enchantment-extraction mechanics, but the vanilla answer is no. Their behavior depends on the specific modification, so check its documentation and compatibility with your edition and game version.

Which editions does this apply to?

The cited anvil reference is official Bedrock creator documentation, and the cited grindstone references describe the vanilla mechanic. These sources do not establish a comprehensive comparison across every Java and Bedrock release, snapshot, or modified server. If you play a modded game or an unusual version, check that version’s mechanics rather than assuming the vanilla behavior applies.

Where can you get an enchanted book instead?

To apply an enchantment from a book, you need to obtain an enchanted book through an in-game method; an existing enchanted item cannot be used to create one through a grindstone. For an overview of enchantments and their effects, see Minecraft’s official enchantment guide.
