Yes—PlayStation Portal can play select compatible PS5 games through Cloud Streaming without a PS5 console. You need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, an adult PlayStation account in a supported region, an eligible game, and broadband Wi‑Fi. This is separate from Remote Play, which streams games installed on a paired PS5.
How Portal Cloud Streaming differs from Remote Play
Cloud Streaming sends a compatible game from Sony’s servers to Portal. Your PS5 can be powered off or in use by another account. Remote Play instead connects Portal to a paired PS5 and streams games installed on that console. Sony says Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership; Portal Cloud Streaming requires Premium. Sony’s November 5, 2025 launch announcement describes both modes.

What you need to stream games
- PlayStation Plus Premium: Sony requires Premium for Portal Cloud Streaming. Other PlayStation Plus tiers do not meet this stated requirement.
- An adult PlayStation account in a supported region: Sony limits the feature to adult accounts and markets where Premium and Portal cloud streaming are supported. Check current local availability because supported regions can change.
- A compatible game: Not every PS5 game can be streamed. Eligible titles include select digital PS5 games in your library and certain games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. Selection can vary by time and region. Use Portal’s Search screen or Sony’s streamable-games list to check a title.
- Broadband Wi‑Fi: Sony specifies at least 5 Mbps for Portal use and recommends 15 Mbps or faster for a better experience. These are Sony’s connection guidelines, not a guarantee of picture quality or smooth play; actual results vary with network conditions.
How to start Cloud Streaming on Portal
- Connect Portal to broadband Wi‑Fi and sign in with an eligible adult PlayStation account.
- Confirm the account has PlayStation Plus Premium and that the service is available in your region.
- Open Portal’s Search screen or the relevant game catalog, then choose a title marked as streamable.
- Start the game. For Cloud Streaming, the PS5 at home does not need to be powered on or available.
If a game does not appear as streamable, check Sony’s current list and the game’s availability in your region. A digital PS5 purchase alone does not make every title eligible.
Cloud Streaming is established, not a new 2026 launch
Sony launched Cloud Streaming for select PS5 games on PlayStation Portal on November 5, 2025 (November 6 in GMT). The launch announcement named examples such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered. Those were launch examples, not a promise that each game remains available to stream in every region.

Portal’s 1080p High Quality option
Sony’s March 17, 2026 Portal software update added a 1080p High Quality mode for both Remote Play and Cloud Streaming. Sony says it uses a higher bitrate than the default 1080p Standard mode; restart the session to apply a change. The update also refined game selection in bundles, cloud game-invite and trophy notifications, Search, and QR-code account creation and sign-in. Cloud Streaming removes the need to own or have access to a PS5 for the compatible games it supports. It does not remove the need for Portal, Premium, an eligible account and region, a streamable game, and a suitable internet connection. Nor does it turn Portal into a way to stream your entire PS5 library: the available selection is limited and can change.
