Sometimes. You can often play a fully installed Minecraft Java modpack offline, but CurseForge itself is not a dependable offline launcher. The profile, game files, loader, mods and dependencies must already be on your computer, and Minecraft authentication may still be required. Test the exact profile before you lose connectivity.
What does “offline” mean for CurseForge?
CurseForge is a desktop app as well as a website and a way to manage game profiles. Those parts do not behave the same way without internet. CurseForge’s official documentation describes online workflows for finding, installing and managing content, but does not promise a full offline mode for the app. CurseForge’s getting-started guide explains the app’s standard setup.

This guidance is mainly about Minecraft Java Edition, for which CurseForge documents modding folders, launchers and supported loaders. The app supports other games too, but their offline behavior depends on each game and launcher. CurseForge’s Minecraft setup guide covers Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt and Vanilla profiles.
What can you play without internet?
Single-player worlds
An existing local world may be playable when launched from a complete modpack profile. The same mods, configuration, game version and loader used when the world was last opened need to remain available. A world save is local, but that alone does not guarantee the launcher can authenticate or start Minecraft offline.

Online features
Internet-based multiplayer servers, Realms, account sign-in, downloads and web features are not offline functions. A local-area-network world is a separate case: it depends on the devices being connected to the same local network, and does not provide access to internet servers.
Downloads and updates
Finding content, downloading new mods, updating a profile and repairing an installation that needs files redownloaded generally require a connection. CurseForge’s Minecraft troubleshooting guidance treats failed downloads, internet access and missing or incompatible components as installation issues. Finish updates before disconnecting, and avoid changing the game or loader version while offline.

Prepare a modpack before you go offline
Do this while connected. CurseForge lets you choose among launch options, including the Classic/Mojang launcher, Microsoft Store launcher and CurseForge launcher; the exact choice can affect authentication and how the profile starts. If you choose the CurseForge launcher, its setup guide says to sign in with your Microsoft/Minecraft account. It does not guarantee that a session stays valid indefinitely offline.
- Open CurseForge, go to Minecraft, then confirm the intended profile appears under My Modpacks.
- Launch that profile and wait for Minecraft to finish loading. Confirm the correct mods and loader are active and no missing-file or dependency warning appears.
- Open the specific single-player world you plan to use, check that it loads, then exit the game normally.
- Confirm you have the required game version, loader, mods, dependencies, configuration, Java runtime and any resource packs, shaders or datapacks the profile uses. CurseForge supports multiple loaders, but compatibility depends on the game version and modloader.
- Back up the profile and important world saves before making changes. Do not remove files you may be unable to download again.
- Close the game, launcher and CurseForge. Turn off Wi-Fi or otherwise disconnect, then try launching the same profile and opening the same world.
If you need to find the profile folder, CurseForge documents these default Minecraft modding-folder locations: Windows C:Users[user]curseforgeminecraft, macOS /Users/[user]/Documents/curseforge/minecraft/, and Linux /home/[user]/Documents/curseforge/minecraft. Why might Minecraft still need internet?
CurseForge manages the profile, but Microsoft and Minecraft authentication are separate parts of the launch. A first-time sign-in, an expired or unavailable session, or a launch option that requires online authentication can block startup. There is no documented guaranteed period for which a cached sign-in remains usable offline, so sign in and test before travelling.
Missing game files, libraries, Java or loader components can also prevent launch even if the account is already authenticated. A profile may appear to start vanilla Minecraft if the wrong game directory or loader is selected. If the modpack expects an online server, launching it does not make that server available offline.

What if CurseForge will not open or the profile disappears?
- Reconnect to the internet and open CurseForge. Check whether the profile appears under My Modpacks.
- Check the Minecraft modding-folder location in the app’s settings. Make sure you are using the same computer account and folder as when the profile was installed.
- Confirm the profile’s folder remains inside the modding folder’s
Instancesdirectory and has not been moved or deleted. - If files are incomplete, use CurseForge’s repair option while online, then launch the profile successfully once before testing offline again.
- If CurseForge still cannot launch it offline, consider another launcher only if you can configure it to use the correct instance, loader, game version, Java executable and account. Back up the instance first.

Can you launch the modpack without CurseForge?
Possibly, but it is not an automatic or guaranteed offline feature. The official Minecraft launcher may be able to start a locally configured installation, and instance-focused launchers such as Prism may offer another route. You must point the launcher at the right files and have the required game version, loader, Java runtime and authentication in place. If the launcher uses a different game directory or does not recognize the modloader, it may start vanilla Minecraft or fail.

CurseForge’s documented launcher choices are described in its Minecraft setup guide. Treat other-launcher use as manual configuration, not a promise that every CurseForge profile will transfer cleanly.
Does importing a modpack ZIP make it ready for offline play?
Not necessarily. CurseForge supports importing an exported profile ZIP by opening the app, choosing Import, selecting the ZIP and letting the app create a profile. But an export may not include every third-party mod file; if the app must fetch missing files or dependencies, internet is needed. This is different from making a complete local copy of a profile that has already launched successfully.
CurseForge also offers a profile-code import method, and says those codes are valid for seven days. A saved ZIP is a more durable transfer file, but it still should not be assumed to be a self-contained offline installer. See CurseForge’s export and import instructions.
