You can keep Forge and Fabric setups on the same computer and switch between them, but ordinary Forge and Fabric mods do not load together in one standard Minecraft instance. Use separate launcher profiles or instances, and make sure each mod matches its loader and Minecraft version. Sinytra Connector is a limited, version-specific option for running some Fabric mods on NeoForge—not a general bridge between Forge and Fabric.
Can Forge and Fabric mods run together in one instance?
Not in a standard setup. Forge and Fabric are separate mod loaders, and a mod built for one does not become compatible with the other by placing its JAR file in the same mods folder. Fabric’s official Installing Mods guide says Fabric mods are “for Fabric and not another mod loader.” CurseForge likewise describes Forge and Fabric as separate loader communities in its modloader guide.
For one world or play session, choose a loader and use mods built for it. If a favorite mod is not available for that loader, look for a native version before trying a compatibility layer.
Can you install both loaders on the same computer?
Yes. Keep a Forge setup and a Fabric setup in separate launcher profiles or instances, then launch the one you want to play. A profile packages the files and settings for a modded setup; Fabric’s guide also instructs players to select the Fabric profile when starting the game.

Keep the mod files separate rather than moving Forge and Fabric JARs into one shared folder. This helps prevent loader and Minecraft-version mismatches, and lets each profile use its own mod list and configuration.
How to choose the right setup
- Decide whether you need one session or two. To play different modpacks at different times, create separate profiles or instances. To use mods together in one session, they must all work with that session’s loader, either natively or through a supported compatibility layer.
- Check the Minecraft version. A mod that works on one Minecraft version may not work on another. Fabric’s guide specifically cautions that version compatibility matters.
- Match each mod to the loader. Use Forge mods in a Forge setup and Fabric mods in a Fabric setup unless a documented compatibility layer supports the specific case.
- Check dependencies and the complete mod combination. Dependencies must match the Minecraft version and loader too; a compatible individual mod does not guarantee that every mod in a larger list will work together.
What about Sinytra Connector?
Sinytra Connector is a limited exception: its project instructions describe using it to run some Fabric mods on NeoForge. It does not establish Fabric support on regular Forge or Forge-mod support on Fabric. See the official Connector project for its setup instructions, supported versions, dependencies, compatibility information, and troubleshooting guidance.
Connector’s compatibility depends on the specific Minecraft version, NeoForge version, Connector release, dependencies, and Fabric mods involved. Check that exact combination before building a setup around it; Connector does not promise that every Fabric mod will work in its translated environment.
