Yes, but only under specific conditions. Pocketpair’s current documentation supports server-side Palworld mods on a dedicated server running the Windows edition. The mod must be built for server installation, and the server must be restarted after it is enabled. Crossplay and mod support are separate: a server can accept several platforms while an individual mod still requires client files, excludes a platform, or breaks after a game update.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What “modded crossplay” actually means
There are two different compatibility questions:
- Can the server run the mod? Pocketpair documents server-side mod installation only for a Windows-edition dedicated server.
- Can each player connect to that server? Pocketpair’s server overview lists Steam, Xbox Series consoles, Xbox One, Windows PC through the Microsoft Store, and macOS as cross-play enabled by default. The same overview says PS5 cross-play is currently unavailable.
Those answers do not automatically match. A server-side mod may work in the Windows server process but still need a file on every player’s computer, rely on a platform-specific feature, or support only a particular game build. Treat every mod as its own compatibility project rather than assuming that “crossplay enabled” means “every mod works for every client.”

Which platforms can join a mod-capable server?
| Platform | Pocketpair’s current server-overview status |
|---|---|
| Steam | Cross-play enabled by default |
| Xbox Series X|S | Cross-play enabled by default |
| Xbox One | Cross-play enabled by default |
| Windows PC (Microsoft Store) | Cross-play enabled by default |
| macOS | Cross-play enabled by default |
| PS5 | Cross-play currently unavailable on the server overview |
This list describes the server’s platform-level crossplay capability, not the compatibility of a particular mod. A mixed Steam, Xbox and Microsoft Store group can therefore be a valid target for a Windows dedicated server, provided the selected mod’s author permits that client mix.
How Xbox players connect
Pocketpair’s Xbox setup documentation covers Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows Microsoft Store connections for that configuration. Xbox players join through the community-server list rather than entering an IP address. Plan your instructions around that workflow: publish a recognizable server name, make sure the server is visible, and give players the exact listing name and password instead of asking them to type an address that the Xbox client does not use in this setup.

The non-negotiable server and mod requirements
Use a Windows dedicated server
Pocketpair’s current “Installing Mods on a Server” guide (page version 1.0.4) states that server-side mods work only on a dedicated server with the Windows edition. This is the documented environment for the procedure below. A regular peer-hosted co-op session is not the same thing, and a Linux server is outside the guide’s supported server-side mod environment.
Choose a server-built Workshop mod
Only mods made to run on servers can be installed in the server environment. Open the mod’s Info.json and inspect its installation rules. You need an InstallRule containing:
PC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute"IsServer": true
If that flag is absent or false, do not treat the item as a server mod. Client-only cosmetic, interface or code modifications may be useful on a single player’s installation, but placing them in the server’s Workshop folder does not make them server-compatible. A mod can also be both server- and client-aware; in that case, follow the author’s instructions for any files that must be installed on players’ machines.
Check the mod’s own platform notes
Before inviting a cross-platform group, verify four items in the mod’s documentation:
- whether the mod is server-only or requires matching client files;
- which Palworld game version it supports;
- whether Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store and macOS clients are explicitly supported; and
- which dependencies, load order or configuration files it requires.
Pocketpair’s general server guide does not provide a complete per-mod compatibility matrix for Xbox, Steam and Microsoft Store clients. The mod author’s notes are therefore the authority for behavior beyond the server installation rules.
How to install a server-side Workshop mod
Use this sequence on the Windows machine that runs the dedicated server. Make a world backup before changing the installation; Pocketpair warns that mods can corrupt save data or cause crashes.

- Stop the dedicated server cleanly. Do not copy or edit mod files while the server is writing the world. Keep a dated backup of the save directory so you can restore the pre-mod state.
- Download the Workshop item and inspect its metadata. Open
Info.json. Confirm that the mod’sInstallRuleincludes"IsServer": true, then read the stated game version and dependencies. - Place the Workshop files in the server’s Workshop directory. Pocketpair’s documented default is the server’s
Mods/Workshopdirectory. If your installation uses another location, setWorkshopRootDirinMods/PalModSettings.iniand place the files under that root. - Enable global mod loading. In the mod settings, set:
bGlobalEnableMod=true
- Add the mod to the active list. Add the item’s exact
PackageNameas anActiveModListentry. Copy the package name from the mod metadata rather than guessing from the display title; a mismatch leaves the files present but inactive. - Save the configuration and restart the server. A restart is required for deployment. Pocketpair documents deployment into the locations selected by the mod’s installation rules, including
UE4SS,PalSchema,LogicModsorPaks. - Read the startup output. Confirm that the package is discovered, enabled and placed in the expected destination. Resolve missing dependencies or parse errors before allowing players to connect.
- Test with one client first. Join from the platform you intend to support, exercise the mod’s main feature, save, disconnect and reconnect. Only then invite the full mixed-platform group.
Client-side files can change the answer
A genuinely server-only mod normally lets players connect without installing anything. A mod that changes assets, interface code or client behavior may require a matching client package. If even one platform cannot install that package, the mod is not suitable for a group that includes that platform, regardless of whether the dedicated server itself starts successfully.
Ask the author specifically whether Xbox and Microsoft Store players need files that are available only on PC. Console users generally cannot use the same manual file-install workflow as Steam or Windows PC users. If the answer is unclear, test with an actual Xbox account before advertising the server as cross-platform.
Choosing a setup for a mixed-platform group
| Decision | Safer choice | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Host operating system | Windows dedicated server | This is the environment covered by Pocketpair’s server-mod guide. |
| Mod category | Server-side Workshop mod with IsServer=true |
It is designed to deploy from the server rather than requiring every client to alter files. |
| Client mix | Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store and macOS only when the author confirms support | Platform-level crossplay does not prove mod-level compatibility. |
| Xbox access | Community-server listing | Pocketpair’s Xbox instructions use the list instead of an IP entry. |
| Maintenance policy | Backups, staged updates and a rollback plan | Pocketpair warns of crashes and save-data corruption, and game updates can invalidate dependencies. |
If you rent managed hosting, ask the provider to confirm all three technical points before paying: Windows dedicated-server support, crossplay for your exact platform mix, and compatibility with the specific server-side mods and their dependencies. “Palworld server hosting” alone does not establish that the host permits Workshop deployment or gives you access to Mods/PalModSettings.ini.

Troubleshooting common failures
The server starts, but the mod does nothing
- Check that
bGlobalEnableMod=trueis spelled and capitalized correctly. - Compare the configured
ActiveModListvalue with the metadata’s exactPackageName. - Confirm that the files are under the configured
WorkshopRootDir, or under the defaultMods/Workshoppath. - Restart after every configuration change; deployment does not occur reliably during a running session.
The server crashes during startup
Stop the server, restore the last known-good backup, and remove the newly added mod or dependency. Check the mod’s supported Palworld version and installation rules. Add one mod at a time so the failing package is identifiable; installing a large batch makes a dependency or load-order error much harder to isolate.
Steam players connect but Xbox players cannot
First separate a joining problem from a mod problem. Confirm that the server appears in the Xbox community-server list, that the listing name and password are correct, and that the server is using the Xbox-supported configuration. Then ask whether the mod requires client files or excludes console clients. A successful Steam connection proves only that the server and that Steam client can communicate; it does not validate Xbox compatibility.
Players are kicked after a Palworld update
Pause automatic mod updates and compare the game build with the mod author’s compatibility note. Keep the previous mod files and save backup until the new combination has passed a test session. If the mod depends on UE4SS, PalSchema, LogicMods or Paks deployment, verify that the update did not change the expected installation rule or dependency version.
The world loads, but progress is damaged
Shut the server down immediately and restore the most recent clean save. Do not continue playing on a potentially corrupted world while experimenting with different mod versions. Pocketpair’s warning covers save-data corruption as well as crashes, so routine backups are part of the installation procedure, not an optional recovery step.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSafe rollout checklist
- Windows dedicated server is running the edition covered by Pocketpair’s guide.
- The world has a dated backup and a documented rollback location.
- Every selected mod has
"IsServer": truein itsInfo.jsoninstallation rules. WorkshopRootDir,bGlobalEnableMod=trueand each exactPackageNameare configured.- The server was restarted and its startup output checked.
- The author confirms the current Palworld version, dependencies and any required client files.
- A test player from each intended platform has joined and used the mod’s main feature.
- Xbox players have been given the community-server listing instructions rather than an IP-only procedure.
- PS5 users have not been promised access while Pocketpair lists PS5 cross-play as unavailable.
Bottom line for Xbox, Steam and Game Pass groups
You can run a modded crossplay Palworld server when the host is a Windows dedicated server and the mod is explicitly built for server installation. Steam, Xbox and Windows Microsoft Store players can be part of the same server at the platform level, and macOS is also listed as cross-play enabled by default. That does not guarantee that a particular mod works on every client. Verify client-file requirements and platform notes, test each platform, keep backups, and treat PS5 as unsupported for this crossplay setup under Pocketpair’s current server documentation.
