Yes. Xbox players can install Starfield mods through the game’s built-in Creations system. However, Bethesda’s rule is conditional: Creations disable achievements unless the individual Creation is marked Achievement Friendly. Check the current label for every Creation before installing it on a save where achievement progress matters. Bethesda Support
That exception is not retroactive. If a save used Creations while achievements were disabled, Bethesda says achievements will not later unlock on that save simply because the Creation receives an Achievement Friendly label. Bethesda’s November 19, 2024 update

What “mods on Xbox” means in Starfield
On Xbox, the supported way to add modded or extra content to Starfield is the in-game Creations menu. Creations are Bethesda’s integrated content system rather than a separate PC-style mod-management process. You browse, install, disable, and remove them from within Starfield.
Starfield is listed by Xbox as an Xbox Series X|S title with Xbox achievements, so the console version has an achievement system for Creations to affect. Xbox’s Starfield listing confirms those platform capabilities.

The important distinction is between the Creation itself and the platform. Xbox does not impose a blanket rule that every Starfield Creation permanently blocks achievements. Bethesda evaluates the status of each Creation, and that status is what determines whether achievements are disabled.
How the achievement rule works
Bethesda’s support article states: “Creations will disable achievements in Starfield unless they are tagged as ‘Achievement Friendly.’” Bethesda Support The wording establishes a default and an exception:
| Creation status | Achievement effect | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Achievement Friendly | The Creation is identified as not blocking achievements under Bethesda’s current rules. | It is the appropriate choice for a save on which you want to earn achievements, but verify the live label before installing. |
| Not marked Achievement Friendly | Achievements are disabled when the Creation is used. | Do not install it on the save you intend to use for achievement progress. |
| A Creation that was later relabeled | A later friendly label does not restore achievements to an earlier affected save. | Treat the save’s previous Creation history as significant; do not expect retroactive unlocks. |
Achievement Friendly is therefore an individual Creation designation, not a property of every Xbox mod and not a guarantee that all future Creations will receive the label. Bethesda introduced this option in its November 2024 update for eligible Creations released through the Verified Creators program. The announcement said certain Creations would no longer block achievements; it did not classify the entire Creations catalog as friendly. Bethesda.net, November 19, 2024

- Open Starfield’s Creations menu on Xbox. This is the supported in-game catalog for Starfield content.
- Open the detail page for each Creation. Do not rely on a bundle’s title or on a label you saw in an older video or post.
- Look for the exact “Achievement Friendly” tag. Bethesda says achievements are disabled unless that tag applies.
- Check every item separately. Installing one non-friendly Creation alongside several friendly ones is enough to put the save under the disabled-achievements rule.
- Confirm the status again if you return to the catalog later. Bethesda’s guidance treats the status as tied to the individual Creation, and a Creation can be updated.
- Install only the content that matches your goal. If achievements matter for this save, leave any Creation without the friendly designation uninstalled.
You can also review the corresponding Bethesda Creations listing when available, but the label must describe the current version of the Creation. A screenshot, guide, or forum comment cannot substitute for the live in-game or Bethesda listing.
What the November 2024 change did—and did not do
Bethesda’s November 19, 2024 update added the Achievement Friendly option for qualifying Verified Creator Creations. This was a change to the eligibility model, not an announcement that every Creation would preserve achievements.
In practical terms, the update created two paths. A qualifying Creation can be published with the friendly designation, allowing players to use that particular content without the normal achievement block. Other Creations continue to follow the default rule and disable achievements. The distinction must be checked item by item.

Why a friendly Creation can still produce a warning
Bethesda has a support article for cases in which the game displays an “Achievements are disabled” message even though a player downloaded a Verified Creation that is currently marked Achievement Friendly. The documented explanation involves Creation history and version changes, not an Xbox-wide failure of the friendly system. Bethesda’s troubleshooting article
Remove other non-friendly Creations
First inspect the complete Creations list, not just the item that you most recently installed. Bethesda advises removing Creations that are not Achievement Friendly. A single non-friendly item can account for the warning even when another Creation in the loadout has the friendly label.
Consider whether an older version remains installed
Bethesda also describes a case in which a Creation was previously free and was later updated or released through the Verified Creators process. In that situation, the earlier version may need to be uninstalled before you continue playing. The issue is the old installed version, not necessarily the label displayed on the updated version.
Do not apply the PC file-deletion step to Xbox
Bethesda’s support article includes a contentcatalog.txt deletion instruction for PC. That is a PC file-system procedure. Xbox players should not be told to search for or delete that file; use the in-game Creations controls instead.

Recheck the list after cleanup
After removing non-friendly or obsolete versions, return to the Creations menu and verify what remains installed. Bethesda cautions that using Creations can cause issues, so keep the troubleshooting focused on the content and versions actually present on the console. Bethesda’s uninstall guidance
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can a later friendly label restore achievements?
No. Bethesda explicitly says: “Achievements will not retroactively unlock on previous game saves with Creations, even if those Creations are now achievement friendly.” Bethesda.net, November 19, 2024
This matters when a Creation changes status after you have already used it. A later update may make the Creation eligible for achievement-friendly use going forward, but it does not rewrite the history of a save that already contained Creations under the previous rules.
For an achievement-focused playthrough, make the status check before installing content rather than relying on a future relabeling. If you discover that an earlier save was affected, do not assume that uninstalling the Creation or waiting for a status change will cause missed achievements to appear automatically.

Practical decision guide for Xbox players
If achievements are your priority
- Use the Creations menu to inspect every planned item.
- Install only Creations carrying the current Achievement Friendly tag.
- Do not add an unlabeled or non-friendly Creation “temporarily” to the same achievement-focused save; Bethesda’s default rule applies while it is used.
- Recheck status after a Creation update or replacement, because the relevant information is the current designation for that item.
If custom content is more important than achievements
You can still use a Creation that is not marked friendly, but do so knowing that Bethesda’s rule disables achievements for that use. The trade-off is explicit: the content remains available, while achievement progress is not treated as eligible under the default rule.
If you see the disabled message unexpectedly
- Open the Creations menu and inventory everything installed.
- Remove each Creation that lacks the Achievement Friendly designation.
- Check whether a friendly Creation replaced or updated an older version, and uninstall the earlier version if it remains present.
- Do not use the PC-only
contentcatalog.txtprocedure on Xbox. - Restart your achievement-focused play only after the Creations list reflects the intended statuses.
Common scenarios
Only a friendly Creation is installed
This is the scenario Bethesda’s exception is designed to cover. The Creation’s current label is the relevant condition, so retain evidence of the live status if you need to explain a later change.
A friendly Creation and an untagged Creation are installed together
The untagged item controls the outcome under Bethesda’s default rule. Remove it if achievements matter; the presence of a friendly item does not cancel the effect of a non-friendly one.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A Creation was untagged when used and friendly later
The later designation does not retroactively unlock achievements on the earlier save. The November 2024 update specifically rules out that assumption.
The game warns even though the catalog now says friendly
Follow Bethesda’s version-history troubleshooting: look for another non-friendly Creation and remove an earlier version if the item was updated. Keep the PC file instruction separate from Xbox troubleshooting.
Bottom line for Starfield on Xbox
Xbox supports Starfield Creations, but achievement eligibility depends on the individual Creation. Bethesda’s default is that Creations disable achievements; the exception is a current Achievement Friendly tag. Check that label before every installation, remember that status changes do not retroactively unlock achievements on affected saves, and use the in-game Creations menu to remove non-friendly or outdated versions when a warning appears.
