To stop Xbox Game Pass from renewing on a PC, open Microsoft Services & subscriptions, sign in with the Microsoft account that was billed, find Game Pass, select Manage, and choose Turn off recurring billing or Cancel. Review the date and refund terms before confirming.
Before canceling Game Pass
Check which subscription you have and which account purchased it:

- PC Game Pass provides the PC-focused Game Pass benefits.
- Game Pass Ultimate also includes PC access, so ending it may affect console, cloud, and other included benefits.
- Trials and promotional subscriptions can convert to paid plans unless recurring billing is disabled before the displayed renewal date.
- Prepaid codes may already have a fixed expiration date and may not offer normal cancellation controls.
If you bought the subscription through Apple, Google Play, a retailer, or another billing partner, that provider may control cancellation and refunds.
How to cancel Xbox Game Pass on PC
- Open account.microsoft.com/services in a browser.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that purchased or received the Game Pass billing confirmation.
- Find Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- Select Manage.
- Choose Turn off recurring billing to prevent the next automatic charge, or choose Cancel if Microsoft presents a cancellation flow.
- Read the confirmation screen carefully. It should show whether access continues until an expiry date, ends immediately, or qualifies for a refund.
- Confirm the change.
- Return to the Services & subscriptions page and verify the result. An expiry date or a Turn on recurring billing button normally indicates that renewal is disabled.

“Turn off recurring billing” versus “Cancel”

If you simply want to avoid another charge while using the time you already paid for, Turn off recurring billing is generally the appropriate option. If you want access to stop immediately, use the cancellation flow only after checking what it says about remaining access and refunds. Microsoft’s cancellation guidance explains that the available result can vary by offer, region, and subscription terms.
What happens to Game Pass games after it ends?
Turning off renewal does not normally uninstall your games or end access immediately. When the subscription entitlement expires:
- Games obtained through Game Pass may remain installed, but you generally cannot continue playing them through the subscription.
- Buying a game separately preserves access to that purchased game.
- Cloud saves, achievements, and Microsoft account data should not be treated as automatically deleted solely because Game Pass ends.
- You may need to buy a title or subscribe again to keep playing it.
- Game Pass discounts and other subscription benefits may no longer apply after expiration; check the exact offer before relying on one.
Installation is not ownership. A Game Pass download gives you access under the subscription’s licensing terms, not permanent ownership of every installed title.

Can you get a refund for Game Pass?
Canceling recurring billing alone does not guarantee a refund. You may be eligible depending on the charge, subscription, region, timing, and cancellation options Microsoft shows you.
Microsoft’s refund policy describes circumstances in which a refund may be available after an initial purchase or before the first recurring billing date. It also describes possible eligibility for the most recent recurring charge when the subscription is canceled within 30 days after payment, subject to conditions and a stated one-time-per-Microsoft-account, per-subscription-product limitation. Regional consumer-protection rules may provide different or additional rights.

If Game Pass is missing from the page
- Sign out and sign back in with the account that received the billing email or confirmation.
- Check other Microsoft accounts you use on the PC or Xbox.
- Review Microsoft order history and your billing emails.
- Confirm that you are not looking for a different subscription, such as Microsoft 365, EA Play, or a separate console-related plan.
- Check whether Apple, Google Play, a retailer, or another partner processed the purchase. Cancel through that provider if so.
- If the subscription still cannot be found, contact Microsoft or Xbox Support rather than trying to block the payment through your bank.
A missing Manage link can mean you are using the wrong account or are already viewing the subscription details page. Menu labels can also vary by region, offer, and account status.

If the page shows Turn on recurring billing, recurring billing is already disabled. The subscription should end on the date shown beside Expires on or the equivalent expiry field. You normally do not need to click anything else.
Common mistakes
- Uninstalling the Xbox app, a Game Pass game, or Microsoft Store does not cancel the subscription.
- Canceling a payment card is not a substitute for changing the subscription and can cause failed-payment complications.
- Canceling Ultimate affects the Ultimate plan, not just PC Game Pass access.
- Games continuing to launch after cancellation is often expected because access remains active through the expiry date.
- A cancellation confirmation is not the same as a guaranteed refund.
After cancellation
Save the confirmation email or take a screenshot showing the disabled renewal and expiry date. If a renewal charge appears despite the account showing recurring billing was turned off, check the account and order history first, then contact Microsoft Support with the confirmation details.

You can later buy individual games, wait for a sale in the Microsoft Store, Steam, or another authorized PC storefront, use eligible free-to-play games, or rejoin PC Game Pass or Ultimate. Catalogs, prices, benefits, and availability vary by country and can change.
Canceling Game Pass cancels the subscription—not the Microsoft account.
