The reliable Candy Kingdom Defense setup is not a single tier list: it is a three-job formation. Put a wide area attacker over the busiest road, add a pull, stun or summon that keeps enemies in that area, then add a single-target boss killer. On hard stages, leave the area units attacking front enemies and set the backline burst unit to Last. If small enemies are leaking, evolve Jake into Alien Jake (renamed Cosmic Dog in the current roster); if waves already hold and only the boss survives, evolve Marceline into Marceline Beast. This guide explains exact placement, targeting, upgrade order, evolution choices, six-slot teams and fixes for the leaks that end hard waves.
Candy Kingdom Defense is a Roblox tower-defense game by Monero Studios. It launched on 29 September 2026 and supports PC, mobile and tablet play, with co-op for up to four players. The independent documentation cited below was checked in October 2026, during the Halloween event scheduled to run through 7 November 2026 at 12:20 UTC.

Place every hero on valid open ground beside the road, then use the range preview before confirming. If the preview says Not on the road, move the unit; a placed tower only attacks enemies inside its range. For area attacks, the best spot is usually a wide zone that overlaps the road, not a narrow circle offset from it. As Rosenberry Rooms puts it, “A unit only hits what sits inside its range,” and “a wide zone over the road beats a narrow one off to the side.”
Read the map before spending coins
- Identify the path carrying the most traffic or the first point where lanes merge.
- Select the hero card and move its preview until the full attack shape covers that road section.
- Place the first lane carrier there and spend early coins on its upgrades rather than scattering low-tier units.
- Leave a gap around large units so the sell button remains reachable and a replacement can be built if the route changes.
- When another lane activates, add a second hero only after the first carrier is close to the next useful upgrade.
The tips wiki describes the common mistake as upgrading three heroes to tier two instead of one hero to tier five. Early waves are generally won by one strong lane carrier; once that unit is near the top of its tree, start covering the opposite lane.

Build tall, then spread
For waves 1–5 on a single busy lane, one Finn (now Adventure Boy) with repeated upgrades is the economical opener. Jake (Stretchy Dog) costs $50 in-match, can be placed up to four times and gains full area coverage from his fifth upgrade, making him the safer opener when clumps are the problem. Spare copies should be placed along the route, not stacked on one tile; overlapping useful range is good, but four bodies occupying one small patch leave other road sections uncovered.
What do the current and older hero names mean?
The live roster was renamed on 24 October 2026, while older guides and searches still use the Adventure Time-inspired names. Treat these as aliases, not separate units.

How should I divide the six active slots?
Six heroes are active at once (maximum hero level 50). Assign each slot a job instead of choosing six units with the same damage profile.
| Slot job | Documented choices | What the slot must do |
|---|---|---|
| Wave clear | Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog | Cover a broad road section and remove clumps. |
| Boss burst | Marceline Beast | Spend attacks and abilities on one high-HP target. |
| Control | Jake Lich/Lich Dog or Lemongrab | Pull, stun or otherwise hold enemies in the damage zone. |
| Flexible damage | Princess Bubblegum/Candy Princess or King BMO | Add coverage or summoned bodies where the map has space. |
| Flexible damage | Lemongrab or Magic Man | Add a second control or a late, high-damage ability. |
| Early/filler | Finn/Adventure Boy or base Jake/Stretchy Dog | Provide affordable opening coverage before specialists are ready. |
A one-placement hero fills one slot and cannot be stacked. King BMO has a two-placement cap, while Jake Lich and The Lich each have a one-placement cap. A two-placement unit replaces a flexible slot only when both bodies can fit without blocking the route.
How do attack shapes change the correct placement?
Attack shape matters more than a letter grade. Place the unit so its shape intersects the road and the enemies’ likely stopping point.
Finn / Adventure Boy
His early attacks are single-target leaps and chops. Meteor Strike later cuts along a linear path rather than filling a circle; a captured panel showed roughly 338 damage at the tier where the attack first appears. Aim the line down a straight, busy section instead of placing him beside a bend where most of the strike misses.

Marceline / Vampire Queen
Base Marceline is a line clearer. Her crimson musical rings track down the road and damage targets along that path. She is therefore valuable at a long straight or lane entrance, but her job changes after the Beast evolution: the headline ability becomes boss burst, not broad lane clearing.
Flame Princess
Flame Geyser and similar persistent areas are strongest at tight choke points. Solar Flare travels away from the selected target, so she needs an angle: point the target toward the road and let the flare travel through the enemy route. A placement directly on the road with the wrong facing can send the damage into empty ground.
Jake / Stretchy Dog
Jake’s stretching attack covers a wide area from one placement. Hammer Slam adds splash, and Stretchy Tornado supplies full area damage from the fifth upgrade onward. Put him where multiple bends pass through one range circle; four weaker placements are less useful than one upgraded Jake when only one lane is active.
Alien Jake / Cosmic Dog
The black hole is full-area control: it pulls enemies together, holds them and damages them. A level-50 captured panel recorded 11,000 damage, 43 range, an approximately one-minute hold and 4,500 poison. Place it before the main damage zone so enemies are pulled into, rather than away from, your other area attacks.
Billy and Magic Man
Billy’s slow projectiles travel past enemies, which is useful on an open route but inefficient against a dense wall that needs immediate area damage. Magic Man supplies a full-area stun at maximum upgrades; stun does not compensate for missing coverage, so use him behind a lane carrier rather than as the only answer to leaks.
How do I beat hard waves and Infinite later waves?
Diagnose the exact failure instead of replacing the whole team. Hard campaign stages, Dungeon Train’s 2x-HP cars and later Infinite waves usually fail for one of three reasons.
| What you see | Missing job | Placement or upgrade response |
|---|---|---|
| Small enemies leak in clumps | Area coverage | Move Jake, Alien Jake, Lich or King Jake over the bunching point; upgrade the lane carrier before adding a specialist. |
| Fast enemies race through one point | Slow, stun or pull | Add Alien Jake’s black hole, Magic Man’s stun or Lemongrab’s lemon stun at the point where enemies compress. |
| The lane holds but a boss survives | Single-target burst | Keep AoE on the trash and add a burst unit behind it with targeting set to Last. |
Infinite Mode sends a new wave every 20 seconds according to the Candy Kingdom Defense Wiki. Independent pages describe it both as a cumulative-damage score mode and as endurance farming for gems, Trait Crystals and Lich portals; there is no single published official scoring rule that resolves that difference. Spend money on the enemies currently surviving: upgrade the attack that failed last run or cover the neglected section of the route, rather than saving for a late specialist that may never get established.

Dungeon Train and hard-stage examples
The Frosty Fudge Pass challenge lists 2x enemy HP, 120 Gems and one Page, while its first-win rewards are three Trait Crystals and two Juice. Story Hard Frosty Fudge Pass is recorded as 12 waves with 15 lives. These modifiers make a build-tall opener and a correctly placed control unit more important than a spread of unupgraded heroes.
Late-wave Lich farming
Every ten Infinite waves has a recorded 30% chance to spawn a portal, and each portal has a 5% chance to produce Lich—about 1.5% per ten-wave checkpoint. The portal is opened in the Tree Fort for Lich’s Lair; each win awards one Lich Ooze and a 5% Lich chance, with roughly 14 wins giving a 50% chance. Jake the Lich requires five Lich Ooze and ten Pages, with no gem cost. Jake Lich/Lich Dog supplies a second full-area placement, not a substitute for boss burst.
What is the best Candy Kingdom Defense boss placement?
Around 16,000 HP hard-stage threats, the winning arrangement is front-line AoE plus back-line burst. Keep the area units aimed at the first enemies so trash cannot escort the boss into the base, and set the dedicated burst unit’s targeting to Last. Last makes that unit select the high-HP target at the rear instead of wasting attacks on the first small enemy.
When should I use Marceline Beast?
Marceline Beast is the documented boss button. Drink the Red deals 40,000 to one target and Claw Dive adds 3,000; a captured level-50 profile with the Radical trait showed 2,244 damage, 2.34-second SPA and 38 range after evolution. Those figures are panel readings, not a controlled DPS comparison. If Marceline is still your only reliable line clearer, do not evolve her yet: the Beast spends its headline ability on one target and the lane she used to hold can open.
When should I use King Jake, Lich or King BMO?
King Jake is called out for boss stages where enemies spread across the lane; that is wide-area coverage, not a single-target replacement. Jake Lich/Lich Dog records 20,000 damage, 56 range and 6.1 attack speed with one placement. The Lich’s Extinction panel records 6,800 damage, 54 range, 5.7 attack speed and a two-second stun with one placement. King BMO has a two-placement cap, rises from a captured 2,000 damage/3.7 attack-speed panel to 10,000/5.4 at a later stage, and summons Princess Bubblegum, Marceline, Finn and Jake; it supplies bodies and coverage, not dependable leak control.
Use the 30-second evolution test
- If small enemies leak, evolve Jake into Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog first.
- If waves hold but the boss survives, evolve Marceline into Marceline Beast.
- If both fail, fix Jake’s lane control first; boss damage cannot help while the boss is being escorted through an open lane.
- If Marceline is the only line clearer, keep her unevolved until another unit covers that route.
Alien Jake and Marceline Beast are complementary: one stops the lane and the other kills the target at its end. Two Alien Jakes can overlap black-hole pulls and halt enemy movement, but they still do not replace a boss specialist.
Should I evolve Jake or Marceline first?
Evolve Jake first when the loss is caused by leaks, clumps or fast enemies. Evolve Marceline first only when the route already holds and the boss is the remaining problem. Standard shrine evolutions cost ten personal materials, five Enchiridion Pages and 1,000 gems; evolved heroes keep their existing level and trait.

Each recorded REPLAY card lists 50 Gems and one personal item, so ten Act 5 wins provide the ten personal items needed for one evolution. The official Roblox description still says five worlds and 25 stages, while live player documentation lists seven worlds with five acts each (35 stages), including Nightosphere and Crystal Dimension. Use the seven-world Act 5 list above for current farming, but expect older pages to show the five-world description.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat six-unit teams work for co-op?
Co-op supports four players. The safest group order is wide coverage first, control second, boss damage third, then extra bodies or flexible damage.
| Team role | Suggested units | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Wide coverage | King Jake, Lich or Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog | Stops clumps across a broad route. |
| Control | Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog or Magic Man | Pulls or stuns enemies inside coverage. |
| Boss damage | Marceline Beast | Targets the high-HP enemy after trash is contained. |
| Extra bodies | Lemongrab or Marceline/Vampire Queen | Fills gaps and adds another damage pattern. |
For a six-slot solo template, use Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog, Marceline Beast, Jake Lich/Lich Dog, Princess Bubblegum/Candy Princess, Lemongrab or Magic Man, and Finn/Adventure Boy or base Jake/Stretchy Dog. Adjust the flexible slots to the map’s open ground; a nominally stronger one-placement unit is a poor choice if its range cannot cover the road.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do the recorded unit numbers actually tell me?
These are captured cards, recordings or published guide figures, not a controlled DPS sheet. A fair comparison would hold level, trait, upgrade stage and wave constant; the available footage does not meet that standard.
- Alien Jake/Cosmic Dog, level 50: 11,000 black-hole damage, 43 range, approximately one-minute hold and 4,500 poison.
- Jake Lich/Lich Dog: 20,000 damage, 56 range, 6.1 attack speed, full area and one placement.
- The Lich: 6,800 damage, 54 range, 5.7 attack speed, two-second stun and one placement.
- Lemongrab’s evolved lemons: about 18,000 damage with a stun.
- Magic Man’s maximum panel: about 200,000 damage with roughly a 4.7-second cooldown; another panel’s roughly 160,000 reading is an earlier upgrade stage.
- Princess Bubblegum’s Gumball Guardian summon: 2,081 damage with a 15.1-second cooldown.
Halloween cards illustrate why seasonal rankings should not replace role analysis. A 25 October recording reported Grim Reaper at 42,599 damage, Metal Reaper at 155,213, Elder Vampire at 5,638 and Dark Cloud at 96,381 on final-upgrade panels, all wearing Oh My Glob. A 27 October 15-wave Halloween Raid report attributed 30.35 million damage (65% of team damage) to Lord of Evil and 16.27 million to Cosmic Dog. Those are specific recorded runs, not universal DPS guarantees.

Upgrade through the units panel rather than relying on crowded on-field controls. In Battles, the Send button can overlap field upgrade buttons and may hide the same controls on busy paths. To feed XP Candy to an equipped hero, unequip it, feed it, then re-equip it; the game blocks feeding while the hero is in the six-slot team. XP Candy gives 150 XP and Big XP Candy gives 600 XP.

Why do enemies leak past my towers?
- Only one tile is covered: sell a low-value unit and rebuild closer to the spawn or the lane merge. Keep a gap around large hitboxes so selling remains possible.
- The range circle misses a bend: rotate the formation by moving the area unit to the road’s busiest overlap, not simply to the nearest open tile.
- Enemies sprint through after the first hit: add a pull or stun at the compression point; raw damage does not replace control.
- The boss arrives behind living trash: leave AoE on front targets and set the boss unit to Last.
- A late specialist never contributes: spend current money on the attack that ended the previous wave before saving for a future evolution.
One recorded Candy Road clear reached Wave 6/6 with 20 lives in 5:23 and displayed 150 Gems, one Trait Crystal and two XP Candies. That is a single sample reward and time, not a guaranteed clear benchmark.
Which mode changes the placement priority?
Campaign hard stages and Dungeon Train reward lane stability: coverage first, then control, then burst. Tournament is different because it is a single-target damage leaderboard; bring the highest-damage hero rather than the tankiest formation. Infinite demands an affordable opener and incremental responses to the enemies currently surviving, while Halloween raids may favor seasonal cards whose placement behavior differs from the standard roster.
The game is available through the official Roblox experience. Independent player counts recorded 4,819 concurrent players on 27 October 2026, but population does not change the placement rules: range, attack shape and role coverage still decide whether a wave holds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move a hero without losing the whole defense?
There is no documented drag-to-move placement in the match loop. Sell the low-value unit, rebuild it closer to the spawn or lane merge, and keep a clear tile around large units so the sell control is accessible.
Why does Solar Flare sometimes hit empty road?
Solar Flare travels away from its selected target rather than radiating evenly around Flame Princess. Target from an angle that points the flare through the enemy route; placing her directly beside the road can aim the effect away from traffic.
How do I upgrade a unit when the on-field button is hidden?
Open the units panel and upgrade from there. The Send control can overlap field buttons in Battles and on crowded paths, so the panel is the reliable fallback.
Can I feed XP Candy to a hero that is already equipped?
No. Remove the hero from the six-slot loadout, feed the XP Candy, then equip the hero again. Regular XP Candy grants 150 XP and Big XP Candy grants 600 XP.
