If your cursor moves in War Thunder but clicks do nothing in menus, the hangar, or the in-match map and toolbar, the cause is usually one of two things: a third-party overlay that is capturing mouse input, or a cursor setting that hides the pointer during play. Gaijin has documented the first case in official update notes, and the second is a control binding that players have pointed to in community support threads. Work through the checks below in order, because the first step that matches your symptoms is usually the quickest route.
Match your symptom before changing anything
The fix depends on whether the cursor is visible and where clicks fail. Use this table to choose your starting point.

Step-by-step troubleshooting
- Confirm the scope. Open a menu outside a match, such as the hangar or settings screen, and try clicking several buttons. Then check whether keyboard input also stops responding. If nothing outside a match can be clicked, the overlay check in step 2 is the priority. If only the in-match interface fails, move to step 3.
- Disable overlays that capture mouse or keyboard input. Gaijin’s update notes for Update 2.37.0.16, published June 20, 2024, state: “Some players using third-party overlays such as Overwolf are experiencing issues with their keyboard and mouse functionality in War Thunder.” The same notes recommended disabling overlays that use keyboard and mouse inputs. Close or disable the overlay in its own settings, restart War Thunder, and test again. According to Gaijin’s data at that time, Steam and Nvidia overlays did not cause the problem, so you do not need to disable them as a first step.
- Check the in-match cursor binding. If the cursor does not appear during a match, open the game’s controls and go to
Controls > Common > Interface. Find the Show mouse cursor control and confirm that it has a key assigned. Key assignments can differ between installs, so do not assume the default. This setting explains a missing cursor only; it will not fix a cursor that is already visible but does not click. - Retry and note the trigger. After each change, test the same click again. If clicks fail only after a particular overlay opens or a particular action occurs, write that down. The timing is useful evidence when you report the problem.
- Report the defect if the problem continues. A War Thunder support moderator acknowledged a similar cursor and click issue in a previous thread and directed future reports to the Community Bug Reporting System. Include your operating system, launcher, game version, whether the cursor moves, whether keyboard input also fails, and which overlays you disabled. These details help separate overlay-related reports from others.
Fixes that have not been shown to work
Several common suggestions appear in player threads, but none has been confirmed as a reliable remedy:
- Restarting, reinstalling War Thunder, verifying files, or reinstalling mouse drivers. An April 2024 support thread described players trying these steps without a dependable result.
- Replacing the mouse. One 2024 player reported that a different mouse did not solve their report, so hardware replacement is not a proven fix.
- Paid repair or driver utilities, and deleting configuration files. Neither is supported by official guidance or by the reports reviewed.
These reports are individual experiences rather than controlled tests, so they show that these steps did not work for those players, not that they cannot help anyone.

What is and is not established
Gaijin’s overlay advice is dated to June 20, 2024, and the forum examples date from April 2024 and June/July 2025. Together they show that similar reports exist and that Gaijin has previously addressed overlay-related input problems. They do not establish a current, game-wide bug, a single root cause for every system, or any prevalence figure. Before assuming any of this applies to your install, check the latest War Thunder patch notes, because a later update may have changed the situation.
